So putting a ******** phone in your front pocket is treating it like crap?

Delusion.

Agreed.

I might skip yet another generation of iPhone... I wonder how long my 4s battery will last ;)

I just don't understand why they thought it was even remotely sensible to stay with aluminum. The weight difference is utterly unimportant unless you're an ant, but the strength difference is substantial. The note 4 is looking better by the minute, and I really don't want to leave apple. It's difficult to justify staying, however, as I spend a LOT of time outside in very physically demanding conditions (hiking, climbing, geology stuff). The 4s + otterbox has served me very well, but I just don't think the 6 or 6+ has what it takes.

I can dive head-first into a ditch with my 4s in my pocket and the worst thing that has happened is a small tear in the otterbox protective sleeve. I've even gotten iphone-shaped bruises on my thigh. If some dude can bend a 6+ with his thumbs then there is no way it will survive an impact with all 190 lbs of my weight crashing into it, like my 4s can.

People talk about "respecting" their phones, and that's fine, but some of us actually need to use them in our daily lives. If the phone can't stand up to the rigors we put ourselves through, then it just isn't an option for us. To date, I have never had a cracked screen or other physical problem with any of my iphones, and I've been using them since 2010. Otterbox definitely deserves a bunch of credit for that, but the older iPhones are solid.

Come on apple... we expect better. You have delivered perfection consistently in the past and that's the standard we hold you to.

I've got the 4s too man, I've dropped it from a big redneck truck door flat on concrete with no case and the worst on my phone is scratches. It's a beast at least for me.

I need to upgrade though because my battery life is horrible and my phone is laggy. Also really tired of the tiny screen.

You still aren't buying the best phone for your needs then. That's all there is to it. The poster previous said he put his phone in an otter box several times. So the reality is had it not been in one of the strongest external cases made for phones it probably wouldn't have survived your wear and tear. It wasn't designed to do what you essentially made it do by strapping on a ton of plastic on it and life proofing it. You forced it to work to meet your needs and now you are implying your philosophy to apple design. "My last iphone would have made it, so this one should too."

No, the last iPhone was thinner and more elegant than previous iterations. But with all of apples products they continue to push the limits of design and beauty. That's what they do. They've never claimed to be anything else. Everything is about aesthetics and style. Have you been in an apple shop?

Because you forced it to work for you doesn't mean you are right, it means you have acceptance issues.

Hey, I want my Subaru to be able to handle any terrain I throw at it, but let's face it, it's a wagon, not a truck. I can put chains on it and probably make it work for 90 percent of what I need it to, but if I ever get to a point where I need clearance and don't have it? I need a different tool for the job, no matter how hard I try to force my will.

Step 1: look at the history of Steve Jobs' aim for apple over the past 20 years.

Step 2: understand it's not that your phone is defective, it's your understanding of the philosophies of the company that made it that needs to be repaired.

Step 3: don't sit on a $950 dollar piece of super thin electronics if you don't want it to bend. Seems easy enough.

I didn't expect it to survive a fall from 5 feet nor did I say that. I expect to be able to keep my phone in my pocket.

I'm tired of you apologist saying hurr don't sit on it, if the people talking about bending are to be believed they didnt sit on their phone at all, just stored it in their front pocket and it bent.

And I'm tired of seeing less than .003 of a percent of phones sold being blown into a media scandal by people like you who genuinely believe without question Barny Bill Bentphone, and can't take into consideration that he 'might' not have been as careful with his device as he's claiming to be. .003 of a percent- say they have a bent phone, and a test video shows someone bending something that is 7mm thick... Intentionally... Now it's a design flaw...

Ridiculous. Absolutely obserd. Unlike you I don't believe everything people say. I believe id feel a little foolish too if I sat on my phone or didn't consider what I was doing with my super new expensive thin piece of technology. I would probably want to say that the cell phone trollferry snuck into my pocket too and bent it- or that 'I couldn't recall sitting on it.'

.003 of 1 percent of the total amount of phones sold....

And not one of these people seems to really understand that a phone 7mm thin might just bend...

But Apple is the stupid one.

If it is not structurally reinforced and only 7mm then maybe apple should have either reinforced it or made it thicker. It's not the users fault that they make a phone so weak it can't withstand being pocketed. Nobody knows what's reinforced in the phone unless they tear it down and look, they can't have expected people to know this.

Furthermore where are you pulling this .003 of 1 percent number from? Your ***?

It is immoral to let a sucker keep his money. - Canada Bill Jones

I love it when people like you get all huffy puffy about their 'hard earned money' when it comes to products that they don't need, really shouldn't be buying, and very much don't understand. Come on BooneBoy, it's common sense that a massive phone that costs 950 dollars, made out of 'elegantly crafted aluminum' and is marketed as a 'feat of engineering' 'classy' 'personal', and not 'rugged' 'toughest' or 'strongest' is probably a device that isn't A) meant for everyone, B) should be taken care of, and C) is to be appreciated for it's design, not its durability. It's people like you who don't know how to spend your money in the first place that make such a big deal about over comitting financially to an expense you don't need, appreciate, or can justify. Then you get angry when something this thin and this pristine breaks because it's not like your 'casio' watch that was 99 cents at Kmart that lasted 20 years (for sure you're still pulling it off though I'm sure!)

Gold is one of the most maliable metals in the world, you can scratch, chip, warp it with your teeth. But people who buy expensive gold jewelry understand that- people who buy rolex's understand that they might not have a calculator on them, or give you the altitude, but that their expensive watch, which will be far more expensive to repair, is about its design, engineering, beauty.

You need to stick with buying things you can appreciate. Your comment alone shows that your philosophy is that you appreciate cost more than pretty much anything else. You're a budget spender so buy a cool budget phone. Since the ipod video Apple has been putting chrome on the back of their devices. Chrome gets scratched to shut, it's an 'aesthetics and design' choice. You don't buy products because you appreciate 'aesthetics and design' you buy products that you want to equal how you value your 'hard earned money'. Some people see the inherent worth in an object that is superiorly crafted with 'aesthetics and design' in mind. These people buy bmws, nice watches, and expensive jewelry, and they take care of those things, because they appreciate them. They understood what they bought to begin with. It's people who impulse buy and do not think about the long term investment that have a 'really nice Mercedes' for a couple years until the maintenance costs start to roll around, then they can't afford it and it gets run down and falls apart.

Let's be honest- it is 7mm thick- did anyone here truly honestly believe this 5.5 inch device made of aluminum 'might not' bend???

I've sat on mine in my back pocket getting into my car and knew right away I needed to adapt how I used this thing.

I carefully put it in my pocket (front) and have had it since release.

I take care of my 950 dollar phone, because it's not a 99 dollar flip phone that will last 10 years even if you threw it down an elevator shaft- it's an apple product. I knew what I was buying before I bought it.

Guess what, my phone hasn't bent.

Just admit it, you sat on it, and you don't want to admit you're wrong in the first place because you spent your money on a product you werent prepared to own.

These phones aren't magically bending in pockets. I can guarantee you that. Maybe it's human nature to exaggerate the truth when it's convenient for us to do so? Nahhh that never happens.
Wow, that's one of the most elitist post I've ever read on any forum in past 15 years or so. This is a smart phone and should function as a smart phone, i.e. should withstand normal everyday use and should not need to be cared for any differently than any other smart phone.

Every new generation of smart phone should be better than the last (look this word up "innovation"), this includes both form and function. IF these things are bending under normal use Apple took a step backwards. Simple as that /thread.

Withstand normal everyday use....

Right, like some dude giving it a grip and applying as much strength as he can until it bends....???

On and by the way most other phones withstood what you are describing.

I'm sorry, where are my manners. There have been reported 300 bent iPhones since launch. My math was actually wrong, it is actually .00003 of a percent :/.

How silly of me to expect math to make sense to you.

You can't seem to understand that something so thin can be pocketed... It can't be sat on.

You seem to still not understand what apple was trying to achieve: you drive a big truck I get it, you like 'tough stuff'. Don't buy an iPhone. Simple. It's not for you.

It's for people who enjoy 'beautiful' stuff, 'elegant' stuff. 'Personal' stuff. Like all the ads say ;).

They boast it's thin-ness and its engineering. Not its weather proofness and invincibleness. I don't see how this isn't common sense.

Why are you acting like this is new? The same thing happened when the iphone 5 launched.

How silly of me to expect something like statistics to make sense to you.

well put, this is first and foremost a luxury device.

The big eye candy screen is the most important part about it and IS the primary product on the Plus.

Right, like some dude giving it a grip and applying as much strength as he can until it bends....???
No, deliberately trying to bent it like that is not everyday use. Putting one in the front pocket of your slacks and getting in the car is everyday use.

Cop out. It's not elitist because you may be slightly insecure about someone saying aloud that they don't spend their money appropriately and a super thin piece of mobile technology might not be for everyone. It's not a surprise that the majority of people with money spend it irresponsibly, that's a fact and it's why consumerism is what it is today- my apologies for understanding a little more clearly than you the inherent value of the things I purchase and the expectations I should have of them. I didn't say that "I" buy bmws, or that "I" buy rolexs, I said the types of people that do appreciate different things than someone who buys a Hyundai and a Casio.

I said what most people would commonly understand- 950 for a super thin phone? Probably should take care of it. More than most things you 'put in your pocket' like your keys change and gum.

It's a 950 dollar item. Some might even venture to agree, maybe even a pocket isn't the best place for that. 'Maybe'. But these intelligent types who understand what they buy, they're probably just elitist *******s- funny thought, they tend to take care of their stuff and thus have nicer things consistently.. Hmm coincidence?

No, in "all fairness" you guys have the responsibility to protect your phones. If you have any idea that it will be in your pockets, that that you'll be sitting with it, well then get a damn case for it! Like a good Spigen Slim Armour or Tough Armor case, for cryin' out loud.

Oh really?

No, like being in a pocket.

Which really, is the crux of the issue.

Why is apple taking so long to respond BTW? Because the only answer they can give (and which ironically is what the ifans are shouting) is that the iPhone isn't capable of being in a pocket.

Just think about that for a second lol.

It would ruin apple overnight.

So ya, keep crapping on about abusing the phone chaps. I'm right behind you. The iPhone isn't fit for pockets

Amazing, I can not believe it. See how it bends easily this iphone! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkD3xIH28tM At the end is destroyed!

really cause I could punch my computer monitor and break pretty easily but I'm not.

The amount of videos that show people bending is ridiculous. I'm sure if they measured the amount of force they were using to bend them it would far exceed anything experienced in someones pocket, let alone not being able to feel that pressure. get over it.

How silly of me to expect something like statistics to make sense to you.

Regardless of how many are alleged to be bent, or reported for that matter, it still falls far under the 'acceptable' rate of bent phones to unharmed- and it's an decent polling number to make an educated guess as to the percentage of individuals who might have bent their phone and did not report it. No matter how you cut it, it's still far under even a tenth of a percent- which in relationship to the amount of phones that are broken to user error, upwards of 89 percent, it doesn't bode well for the 'claims' of design flaw. It still only goes to show its not a massive wide spread issue that is happening with a sample number far too small to mathematically gage the inherent severity of the issue. It pretty much is a small enough sample to call it a 'non-issue'.

And it doesn't excuse the fact that chances are people still don't appreciafe what they've spent their money on or of those people it wouldn't have happened to begin with.

Sorry, I undetstand statistics a little better than you think. But I definitely understand common sense in regards to how I treat a 950 dollar phone that's 7 mm thin. That doesn't take a mathematician to figure out.
