So.

Last night my phone stopped making, and receiving sounds.

Went to the Apple store today.

Apple genius takes my case off (Apple silicone case) and tells me my phone is bent.

I'm like what?!?!?! I didn't even notice. He said he's seen the same thing happen at least once already. Apparently it broke a chip on the inside by the mute switch. He said they are aware of the bending, and it takes 150 lbs of pressure to bend. (I laughed and said I don't even weigh 150 lbs)

I've been very careful with my phone after reading about the bending, and have only kept it in my front pocket of my jacket.

Anyways, I received an in warranty phone replacement even though I have Applecare and it didn't cost me anything.

Anyone else have the same symptoms where the phone just stopped making/receiving/taking sounds?

Odd.

But all is well in Apple land A++ service.

*edit* I have the 6 plus btw

"and it takes 150 lbs of pressure to bend. (I laughed and said I don't even weigh 150 lbs) "

Yeah he just flat out lied.

Well at least my situation got resolved :)

I just added my comment to let others know Apple is aware of the issue, and will deal with it if you are polite.

I didn't even see any bending. It didn't help that he put it on the table and it wobbled, and I told him the camera sticks out......

"Geniuses"

*edit* And no the wobbling wasn't why he said it was bent, he said it was visibly bent before he tried the 'table test' :)

You don't know that he lied. You're getting the story second hand. people make mistakes too. I'd be a little less quick to level charges if I were you.

Even the Consumer reports test that doesn't target the weak point took far less to bend the phone than that, yes he lied, if he just didnt know then he shouldn't be slinging bs out like that.

Just fyi:

Description:

Problem Description/Diagnosis
Issue: Customer came in with phone mute button effected as well as device restarting
Steps to Reproduce: Physical inspection
Cosmetic Condition: Passed vmi
Proposed Resolution: Replacement of device in warranty

No mention of bending :/ (Also, I never mentioned any 'restarting' issues... but oh well.)

*edit* And shouldn't that be 'affected'? ;)

Again, you don't know that the person lied. You're reacting to a second hand story about a person who may or may not have misspoken, lied or said the correct thing and been misheard etc.. You can't say with any certainty that the person in question lied.

He probably didn't lie. He told me what Apple told him to tell me.

So in reality, Apple lied.

Dear god leave it up to you to be difficult and defend an apple employee, I guess I should just assume that absolutely everything posted here is a lie or a misrepresentation unless the person has hard video evidence that couldn't possibly be acted out, after all we'll never know if the video is just a play!

Given the fact that no one else has reported anyone else at Apple saying that same thing I'd say that your conclusion is also highly suspect. There's no evidence here that Apple told the employee to lie to you.

Everything was resolved so really, it doesn't matter.

You're messed up.

Which is it? He lied, or Apple told him to say it? Take your pick.

And really, IT DOESN'T MATTER. He replaced my phone without any questions, and told me this little spiel. It's not like I was turned away for having a bent phone. Which I didn't even know was bent.

I'm not defending anyone. I'm pointing out the utter ridiculousness of YOUR conclusion jumping. Big difference.

I'm "messed up" because I don't jump to the conclusion of malicious intent. Riiiiight.

See, what you just posted is an egregious false choice. According to you either this person lied or Apple told him to lie. It isn't possible that he misspoke or that you heard him wrong. It isn't possible that he was mistaken. It has to be an intentional LIE.

See, that's the silly thing about your comments. You don't know that anyone lied to you. That's an assumption you're making.

How in the hell do you want the guy to provide absolute objective evidence that that's what he was told? Hmmm? He can't!

You already have your mind made up and walk into every scenario with a confirmation bias, one that always leans towards apples favor.

He can't prove to you that he was told that, nothing is good enough.

I didn't come here saying anyone lied.

But obviously what he said wasn't totally truthful according to facts.

I don't care. I was just letting people know that apparently there is an issue, and they are willing to resolve it.

Ahh... another thread where Surf Monkey defends Apple's "honour" to the end!

Honestly Surf Monkey, if you ever want to get paid (or paid more) from Apple, I'm sure a few people can write you a glowing recommendation. :)

The exact opposite is true. You're the one showing bias by assuming that lies were told. I don't know if any lies were told. I reserve judgment because I wasn't there and I don't know what exactly happened. I have one side of the story only. Not enough data to say for sure. I'm not leaning in anyine's favor. You, on the other hand, are very much issuing a judgment based on incomplete information and then proceeding to attempt to smear me because I don't immediately agree with you.

Another example of someone posting rote smears that have nothing to do with what's actually happening.

Trust me no one needs to attempt to smear you, you do a pretty damn good job all by yourself.

I have no reason to assume the poster is lying, and if I assumed posters here were lying unless they provided objective evidence then there would be no point to coming here at all.

Some people have nothing better to do.

I was just informing the public that they know there is an issue, even though I didn't state the issue. :)

And it is highly suspect that he didn't record 'bent' on the work order, and used 'restarting' as a problem (which we now know is caused by the flash chips).

Obviously he helped me out because Apple doesn't cover 'bent' phones. So let's let it be. He told me a story, but helped me out. The end.

Thank God I didn't post his employee # or Surf Monkey would have him out of a job.

Thanks for illustrating my point. In the absence of a cogent rebuttal you default to personal attacks.

As to the poster, I didn't assume he was lying either. What I said was that he seems to be jumping to the conclusion that he was lied to based on little to no evidence.

So, again, it seems like a leap to me to assert that he was lied to. He doesn't know that the employee lied. A lie implies malicious intent. I see no evidence of malicious intent here. His issue was resolved. What I'm questioning is YOUR assumption that the employee lied as opposed to miss-speaking, being miss-heard or any number of other possibilities. It's interesting to me that you seem to need it to be a lie, evidently in order to support your narrative of Apple being engaged in a coverup surrounding bent phones.

Even if it wasn't a lie he passed off horrible misinformation as fact, that's obviously not a good thing to do, he was way off as well I really think you're grasping at straws here.

I think if there was a possibility of him being misheard the other poster would have mentioned it by now, it's not easy to completely mishear a hard number like 150.

Oh! Look! Some modicum of rationality!

Yes. Clearly the information was bogus IF that's what he actually said. No one would dispute that.

As to the reliability of the account, you may want to bear in mind that eye witness accounts are notoriously unreliable. People are really poor recorders of details. I'm not saying that the poster got it wrong, just that it's a possibility that has to be considered before leveling charges of lying, because lying carries with it a very specific connotation: malicious intent.

Now you're pissing me off, by calling me a liar.

****, my post wasn't even a hateful post, my issue was resolved, yet I came on here to spread false information? You're not that bright, or you work in Apples PR dept.

I specifically said that I wasn't calling you a liar so your accusation is completely empty. Using that false accusation as a foil to directly accuse me of being stupid and an Apple employee? Ham handed and lame, but of a piece with what I was pointing out before. You don't know that the employee you talked to lied, but that didn't stop you from leveling the accusation. Now you're claiming that I called you a liar when I specifically said that I'm NOT calling you a liar. That goes directly to your credibility in this discussion, not mine.

Reread my posts.

You talk in riddles.

The End. I have no use for you.

There's no way a "genius" would be unaware of bendgate to that degree. The guy straight up lied, no question. When he realized it wasn't going to work on this customer he decided to take the path of least resistance and replace the phone.
