There's no way a "genius" would be unaware of bendgate to that degree. The guy straight up lied, no question. When he realized it wasn't going to work on this customer he decided to take the path of least resistance and replace the phone.

Straight up presumption on your part. You can't say with any confidence that the guy lied.

Why are you defending the Apple employee? You certainly don't defend those who claim their phones bent this intensely. You essentially call them liars because they can't prove to you over the internet that they didn't do anything abnormal to their phone. But Apple employee, lets give them the benefit of the doubt.

How much does Apple pay you to troll these forums?

I'm still wait for Monkey to show me where CR says the IPhone 6 PLUS +++ bends at 70 Lbs like it did in the COMPUTER BILD bend test.

Good thing you don't do any egregious conclusion jumping.

I haven't called anyone a liar. Your charges against me are now and have always been bunk. This is just more of the same. I'm not "defending the Apple employee," I'm just pointing out the obvious fact that neither you nor anyone else here knows whether a LIE was told or not. All the rest of the snotty, insulting hype is just static added by you and others.

I'm still wait for Monkey to show me where CR says the IPhone 6 PLUS +++ bends at 70 Lbs like it did in the COMPUTER BILD bend test.

The 6 bends at 70 pounds. The Plus at 90. Both with force applied in the middle. The Bild test showed that the Plus takes 70 pounds to bend at its weakest point. This essentially confirms the CR test, which showed the same weak point in the design.

So, yet again, your inability to grasp simple facts really isn't a flaw in my character.

Even the Consumer reports test that doesn't target the weak point took far less to bend the phone than that, yes he lied, if he just didnt know then he shouldn't be slinging bs out like that.

and when in real life will you really have focused, concentrated pressure on the volume rocker?? doesnt even make sense

Even in the center like I said where CR tested it's much less force than 150 pounds.

in the center it is 90 pounds of force it needs to bend permanently, carry a 90 pound dumbell then let me know how much pressure you do actually need to really bend one (i dont doubt it cant bend, it may be more prone to bending then past models, but that in some peoples cases, it was probably extreme and just misuse/miscare of the device really)

Had mine one week. After reading all about how easy it is to bend, I took mine out of its case and put a spirit level in it. Sure enough, there is a slight (<1mm) bend in the center, a concave bend on the screen side.
I have been acutely aware of this problem since before I bought the phone, and have taken care not to exert too much pressure on the phone.
I'm disappointed, but I'm not returning it. I'm used to the size now.

There was one bend test done on the 6 plus from consumer report, did the 6 plus permanently bend at 70lbs or 90 lbs?

There is no mention of the phone bending at 70 lbs on the CR test.

You said that CR "postulated" that the 6 plus will bend at
70 lbs. Can you provide a quote for that?

Please provide these simple facts.

That's nothing.

I had a similar experience. When I came back after 3 days I saw that the table was bent!

At first I thought it was the phone, but then when I put a level on the table I saw the obvious signs of the bend.

Not surprising since metal is stronger than wood.

I now only put my phone on a specially built formica stand.

If your key is stabbing you with 90 pounds of force, you would have bigger problems than a bent phone.

If the phones bent with "normal usage" there would be 10s of millions of bent phones since 10s of millions of people use their phone normally.

I feel your pain

I defitnetly have slightly changed my phone carrying habits, If i am getting in/out the car I just take the Plus out my pocket, never sit on my device ever in the back pocket, and just making sure Im not putting pressure really on my pocket area ever, little things like that, it is a bigger phone so i slightly adjusted too

What a pain in the butt to have to go through BS like that to keep a phone from being damaged. Since my very first cell phone I think 16 (?) years ago I never gave a wit about where I kept it, whether in a backpack or a pocket. I've never had phone damage except for normal scratching in the few phones I decided to not put a case on. IPhone 6/6+ is a total fail design. I had a phone in the early 2000s made of magnesium you could drive nails with. Apple cheaped out. I can't believe people are actually defending them.

I haven't treated my Plus any differently from any other iPhones I've owned and I haven't had any bending issues at all. This is a bizarre phenomenon for sure.

Not really, I dont throw my phone in a backpack or anywhere like that because it gets scratched like that, i always take care of my device, its not extreme at all...it is just big enough to the point where getting in and out the car with it in my pocket is actually ever so slightly discomforting , yeah I bet your past smartphones are probably all scratched up and dinged up the screens lol.

Of course I keep it in my pocket too, just my front pockets only, I dont ever put my phone in my back pocket, these are expensive smartphones with big glass displays now, surely they aren't as durable as probably old past flip phones and stuff like that that you can just throw around beat up etc.

Has anyone thought that perhaps the iPhone could stay bent if it's been under pressure for a while (like in your pocket on a car ride)? Consumer Reports said that it takes 90lbs to bend the iPhone 6+ permanently, but they haven't tested if constant pressure of a lower force to see if it could weaken the metal enough to stay bent from way less force than 90lbs.

Just a thought. One single test isn't going to tell you everything.

Also, their test only tells you how the center of the phone is.

Also, did they test multiple iPhone 6's to rule out a defect in some iPhones?

and when in real life will you really have focused, concentrated pressure on the volume rocker?? doesnt even make sense

Put on a pair of well fitting jeans. Put the phone in your pocket. Sit down. Now take the phone out of your pocket without standing and without putting concentrated pressure just below the volume controls where the top of your pocket works as a fulcrum.

It starts to deform at 23 pounds.

But not permanently at 23 pounds, I highly doubt it only takes 23 pounds of pressure for permanent deformation that is just silly

And no not entirely, the phone in your pocket the pressure gets spread out more to the contours of your thigh, the pressure is more so spread across the device,

Had mine since release day with no bend and carry in front pocket and treat exactly the same as my previous iPhones.

Maybe permanently deforms, maybe not. It depends on the alloy and treatment. Aluminum is far more complex to get right compared to steel and there are a lot of ways to screw it up, but in simple terms it's like the difference between an aluminum coke can and aluminum foil. You know aluminum foil is thicker than a beverage can, yes?

Obviously aluminum foil is thicker, but this is stronger grade aluminum they use, it is anodized and also heated at super temperatures for extra hardening, not the toughest stuff in the world but it feels good

i'm pretty sure that a few iphones came pre-bent out of manufacturing.
at least mine did.
it's only a slight bend tho, and it didn't bent any further so far..
i think maybe the case gets bend when you insert the display in the manufacturing process maybe?!?

do not put a huge a$$ phone in your pocket and sit down. end of issue worldwide!!!

Metal bends, shocking, i know! I can't believe apple couldn't get around the elemental structure of the metal.

C'mon people! cut any type of consumer available metal into the size of your iphone and attempt to bend it with your barehands. Watch magically as you gain super human strength and bend the metal.

This is so ridiculous! Apple product (nor any other products on earth can defy the laws of physics)

no other phones don't bend at 23 lb of force, and the question is. why is Apple using aluminum (a metal so known for its malleability) used to create such a thin device?

give me any phone, i can bend it. its not hard, but if i had to guess as to why apples does so easily. I would say its because of the rounded edges, there are not hard cuts in the metal to absorb the pressure.

I'm relatively new here, so I just randomly picked this thread to ask:

Does MR ever lock threads that are endlessly pointless bickering, retreading the same flamewar troll-bait points over and over again?

Just, you know, wondering.
