Wait wait wait wait. So you mean to tell me, even though I'm an ATT customer, I can walk into a Verizon store and get this 6Plus Verizion Phone, pay full price and it'll be exactly the same as if I had gotten an ATT 6Plus?

Yes, you'd just get the additional usable CDMA bands included. The hard part would be getting them to allow you to buy the hardware and without having to signup for their network.

No. I don't mean to tell you that. First, Apple Store, not a Verizon store. Second, the Verizon phone has all the GSM and LTE bands that ATT uses PLUS CDMA. So yes, it will work with an ATT sim.

That's insane, that's like the best kept secret. Why in the world don't they just make the Verizon phone one global phone? I would think most if not all of us with the exception of a few like you guys would have never thought of this. To think that my local Verizon store has pluses sitting there that I could get. hmmm, perhaps wishful thinking but wow. I never thought of this

If somebody knew that, ok. Just in case for SOME BODY DONT KNOW....
Covered long ago:
https://www.macrumors.com/2012/09/2...s-required-by-fcc-network-access-regulations/

The FCC requirements have not changed since then.

So wait, sorry if I'm slow here. But if I buy a Verizon iPhone 6 Plus at full price, it's unlocked AND I can T-Mobile?
Doesn't matter if it's full price or subsidized. The FCC requirement applies to all Verizon devices.

Not sure if calling unlocked is even the right word. It's simply not locked to start with.
Not locked is unlocked. A device doesn't have to start out as locked to be unlocked.

I thought that Verizon phones are not GSM thus no sim card is used in those phones?
There are Verizon devices that support GSM (and have been for many years). As an example take a look at the Cellular and Wireless section of the iPhone 6 specs.
https://www.apple.com/iphone-6/specs/

Notice that the CDMA models also support UMTS/HSPA+.DC-HSDPA, GSM/EDGE and LTE.

GSM devices use SIM cards but not all devices that use SIM cards are GSM. Verizon's LTE devices certainly use SIM cards. iDen devices also used SIM cards.

Exactly what confuses me. Can I use T mobile phone on CDMA network?
Nope. Technically you should be able to but Verizon and Sprint won't activate devices that are not from their own networks.

It won't be exactly the same (you can compare the at&t and VZW models for yourself to see the differences) but it will work.

But I dont need Verizon to activate their "Verizon Phone" on my ATT network correect? That's what ATT will do?!?!

Yea, I suppose you are right. It's just that with most phone locked to some carrier, the wording of "un"-lock seems imply that something was done to it to become un-locked. But in fact it was never locked to Verizon. I guess I just don't want people to think that they still have to do work to get it un-locked from Verizon.

OK, bought a 128GB Verizon iphone 6+ from apple store. moved my iphone 5s sim to it and all worked fine that I can see. says ATT LTE at the top left. I can get on the internet. Wifi works. I can make and receive calls.
BUT
I got a text message that I would need a new sim to take full advantage of my new cell phone. I goto AT&T. And they tell me they can't activate a new SIM card in the phone because it's a Verizon phone. I said it was never activated with Verizon and I paid it in full from the apple store. Everything was working. He said it locked up? It's because its a Verizon phone. I said it didn't. It was a text msg I got from AT&T to come in and get a new sim.
We'll it won't work as it is a CDMA. I said its open to all GSM.

I stuck in the old 5s sim. it booted up infront of him. He looked surprised it said att and LTE. it said carrier was att. He said don't swap the sim then, since it's not supposed to work and it'll fail.

So will it fail? Will I keep getting msgs from ATT saying to swap sim? anybody else getting these text?

At the time I ordered all I could get is the T-Mobile off contract version. Can I walk this into the ATT store and have them put a SIM in it and use it as a prepaid? not sure how cross compatible the T-Mobile version is w/ ATT.

Hi, Can you let me know if you see the "WiFi Calling" option under "Phone"? Thank you!

Wifi calling is available to Verizon iPhone 6 plus with T-Mobile sim. Using one as we speak. It was also working on my Verizon 5s that I updated to IOS 8 and using a T-Mobile sim.

Sounds like AT&T workers either didn't know what they were talking about and/or were purposefully misleading you for whatever reason. Not uncommon for any carrier or really any industry unfortunately.

Thank you, sir/ma'am for your help! Now I can buy with confidence!

Wouldn't it be smarter to buy verizon if it can be used on both?

Yep. That's what I bought with the 5s. I use T-Mobile, bought a Verizon iPhone 5s shortly after launch. Took it home, slipped in a T-Mobile SIM, worked immediately. All radios active, a true world phone.

They just don't have the IMEI in their database. Doesn't matter anyway, the whole point of GSM is to make it easy to change devices. I wouldn't worry

How do I activate this. Just upgrade to iOS 8? Any toggles or anything else we need to set?

Also, how is wifi calling on T-Mobile network? T-Mobile connection around here is quite good, usually LTE. Will wifi be better or worse in terms of quality?

I'm actually having a problem using AT&T LTE on my new Verizon iPhone 6 Plus. Everything worked fine on my 5 before I switched the AT&T sim card to the new phone. I can still make phone calls for some reason, just not the LTE network.

It's only available on 5s, 5c, 6, and 6 plus. You need to upgrade to IOS 8 and then go to settings>phone>wifi calling. It only makes a difference if your signal is poor. I have tried it by turning on airplane mode and then wifi and the quality is good. It will also work for sms. Another good use for it is to make and receive free calls using your T-Mobile number when you are traveling internationally and connected to a wifi hotspot.

Try to reset network settings and hard reset.

Maybe you are in an area where LTE is hit or miss so 4g is only showing up? Why don't you restore your i6+?

I put the sim card back to the iPhone 5 and it worked just fine. I have also tried restoring the iPhone 6+ but it didn't work either.
