I can fit an iPad Mini in my pants/shorts pockets but it would look kinda weird...

I think the issue I have with the 5.5" is, how comfortable would a device of this size feel in the hand and how usable would one-handed operations be with a device of this size?

Like navigating around with your thumb, and typing with your thumb?

Even a huge 5.5" phone is still not a replacement for an iPad.

They're two different experiences... IMO.

That is one strike against a 5.5" iPhone. The other is that Apple doesn't do "slightly different" designs across any iOS devices, or other devices, though the MBA and MBP might be getting close this year.

These rumors about two phones are analyst fodder.

The S4 I use with a 5" screen is probably my max for comfort.

I would definitely consider switching back to the iPhone as my primary phone if they hit that sweet spot.

You haven't seen it yet?? Here it is!!

(Alright, it is just a concept illustration, featured on 9to5mac.com)

I'm confident Apple's new phones will have the exact same design... only in different sizes.

Like other Apple products. 11" and 13" Macbook Air look the same... just in different sizes. Same for the two sizes of iMacs. And at one time there were three sizes of the MacBook Pro... all with the same design.

I feel Apple will be slimming down the thickness of the iPhone considerably with this new new iPhone 6...perhaps something that is half the thickness of the 5 and 5s.

That makes no sense at all. Explain why people would want to use a phone so big you can't carry it with you in your pocket?

Because by 2016, nobody (except maybe Grandma) will be carrying around phones and putting them in their pockets, like chumps. Phones will be something you use in your car, on a desk, or sitting on a sofa.

Your iWatch and iGlasses will be used for connectivity on the go. They'll be far more capable than todays devices and far more portable than any phone.

It has always launched as early as September.

Didn't the first iPhone get launched on June 29 at WWDC?

Actually, here are the past launch dates.

iPhone June 29, 2007
iPhone 3G July 11, 2008
iPhone 3GS June 19, 2009
iPhone 4 June 24, 2010
iPhone 4S October 14, 2011
iPhone 5 September 21, 2012
iPhone 5S/5C September 20, 2013

So, historically Apple has actually announced iPhones as early as June. Personally, I think they should ultimately offer at least two screen sizes and flip flop announcement dates and announce this new large screen model at WWDC in June. If they are starting production of the parts now, they have several months so they COULD theoretically announce and ship product in June.

I know i might be reaching on this, but it would be nice to see a June release date for this large screen and then they can do their 4 inch update in Sept.

You never know but I think there is a much higher chance of seeing Apple go with a 4.0 and a 4.7 than with a 4.7 and a 5.5.

I'm a bigger guy with big hands and I think even the 4.7 is probably bigger than what I would want. I'm not exactly sure what my ideal size would be, but I use the 4 inch iPhone 5 very comfortably. I've also used the 5 inch Nexus 5 often and I found it to be too large for my taste. It was mostly used in the car trying to shuffle through music. My best guess is that I would prefer something around 4.3 inches so I may have to make a decision if Apple comes with a 4.0 and a 4.7.

4" model

I think there will continue to be a ~4" model available, same guts, probably same resolution as the current models. Many people DO NOT WANT LARGER than the current phone.

I'll be going with the 4.7 version. Provided one of the previous rumors was false that said the 4.7 was going to have iPhone 5C styling while the 5.5 was going to be more like 5S

I would question the masculinity of those who want a smaller size.

4 inches is, after all, nothing to brag about.

I hope not. It's not likely they can overcome battery issues yet and keep the phone THAT thin.

Second - there's a point, at least to me and others I've spoken to, that prefer a LITTLE weight/thickness in their phone so it doesn't feel like it's going snap in their hand.

Not gonna happen. Apple have to move on with the times, a 4-inch screen is too small nowadays. I have small hands and I want a bigger screen. 4.7 and 5.5 is will be.

4.7in? maybe. Probably, even.

5.5in? No way.

I am pretty much with you. Except I would say this. Put the damn phone app on the ipad mini. Then Apple could sell the iPhone in 4 and 4.7 inch sizes and then the iPad mini can become the Phablet. That leaves the iPad Air as the a true tablet until they come out with the iPad Pro that essentially take over the laptop space.

Well that's how I would do it. Is Tim listening? probably not.

5.5 yes.128GB, double yes :D
I think 2 phones are plausible! Samsung has shown that offering any screen size garners market share!!!! :p

People will still be using phones of course, they need screens. While I can't wait for devices like smartwatches I think the true revolution will be when we get truly foldable screens.

oops... when I said "the exact same design" I meant each of the new iPhone 6 models will look like each other.

I didn't mean they would look like the iPhone 5/5s

:)
