I'm sure the cloud is infinitely more secure than the phone that is in his pocket, on his desk, in his car etc...

What makes the cloud "infinitely more secure"?

(legit question)

...also security is only ONE concern in this instance. The other being that if the pics were "in the cloud" to access them he'd have to have: a) a solid internet connection which isn't always available or b) a good OTA connection which isn't always available AND would have to use data to get to everything needed.

It only makes more sense to have it local (on the handset) in his case.

As a 64-GB iPhone 5 user with < 10GB free -- I simply like to have ALL of my music on my phone. I listen to music 97% of my waking life and I like to have it local to me. I don't want to pay data charges to listen to music when I'm driving or out on the trail exercising. I've amassed a large music collection over the last 20 years or so and I like to have it with me. Do I always listen to everything that's on there? No... but I DO like shuffle and the more I have the more variety I have.

I just don't see how it's so unfathomable to people that someone would have a need for more than 64 GB of storage....

LOL! Seriously? How does restricting storage capacity make my life harder? Okay, I'll try to explain it to you.

In the past, with my 160GB iPod Classic I could simply tag my music and sync my device. I didn't have to sit at my PC and ponder which songs I wanted to listen to that day or that week or that month. I could stroll around town comforted by the knowledge that every song I own is strolling around town with me and accessible for free (after the initial device investment).

Now, I have to decide which songs to take with me or subscribe to iTunes Match for a fee and continuously monitor my AT&T data usage in the off chance I exceed my limit and get charge an additional fee for more data. I spend vastly more time now managing my music then I ever did with the iPod Classic.

For me and several other iDevice owners I know we yearn for the days when we could "hog" our purchased data and access it without a fee and with convenience.

Additionally, smart playlists have no bearing whatsoever in my reasoning for wanting 128GB.

So what you're saying is that because you started using a device with significantly smaller storage than you need, Apple made your life difficult. Did your iPod stop working? Did Apple stop selling iPod Classics?

Not even the iPod classic would hold all the music I want to carry, what I started doing is rating the songs I want to carry with five stars, for example, and when I buy new music I rate those songs as well. I only have to administer those songs once.

In addition to Playlists for new music this year and other specific small playlists, I have smart playlists that randomly fill with 30GB, for example, of those five-star songs, or a combination of star ratings and genres. I find this is way easier than manually administering playlists.

I'll still end up getting the 128GB iPhone 6 as I'd still like to carry more music than my 64GB iPhone 5 can hold.

I'm in the same boat. I'll be pretty sad if we can't pre-order with the subsidized price because it's before the eligibility date.

If I recall, and it could change, but I think they do let you. I am sure they know all the iPhone 5 launch date buyers that stick to the 24 month upgrade are going to get the 6.

I disagree. The ability to bypass Apple's App Store is the reason Flash is banned on iOS devices. Just because Steve Jobs said Flash is bad doesn't make it so. Steve Jobs was doing what all great marketers do, selling his product and minimizing the benefits of of tech that doesn't fit into his business model.

Flash is dead because Apple wanted a controllable and profitable App Store based upon it's approved coding language and development tools. If you want to develop an iOS app you must buy a developer license and a MAC because you can't publish it from a PC. How is this not a concerted effort to create a new revenue stream and maximize all profits from that stream?

But Flash died on mobile even though Apple was the only one to restrict it.
It had every chance in the world to thrive on Android but didn't.

The iOS developer annual memberhsip amount is nominal compared to the cost, in time or money, to develop even a basic app of any quality at all. And there's no evil reason you need a Mac to develop iOS apps... The developer tools would be considerably more difficult and expensive to develop and maintain if Apple had to make them cross-platform. This isn't exactly a huge burden either. A developer on a budget could get a mini and a membership for about $600... about the same thing that Flash cost the last time I bought it. Cheaper with a used or refurb mac.

Anyway, you're changing your argument.. is Apple exploiting end users through the app store or developers through Mac-only devleoper tools?

(Not to mention, I'm not sure what's wrong with Apple profiting... they are a for-profit company, that's what they are supposed to do. It's not like they are the only game in town, especially not these days. If you want to develop Flash games for Android, Apple isn't going to do a single thing to stop you.)

The thing that is sad about iPhone 6 is that this year's big new feature (screen size) is about 3 years late, and we know exactly what to expect on the iOS side. Usually Apple releases are like magic. Unless they surprise everyone with an amazing watch (like better-than-the-rumors amazing), this Fall looks entirely too predictable.

But I digress. It's still gonna be sweet to get the new phone. 4.7" please.

I'm gonna guess a name change to the iPhone Air and the cheapest new one starts at $299 (with contract) 4.7"/32gb. iPhone 5s/5c stay the same prices this time, maybe a new color option for 5c. They aren't going to a 4.7" screen and 32gb without raising the price at least $100, sorry guys.

Maybe, but they have, in the past, done this on their mac lines

I registered just to ask this:

Why do you need a mobile phone with 128GB of space? I got 16GB and im not getting over 12GB in total.
2-3GB Spotify, then tons of photos, and games.

Why do you need a laptop with 100gb? Because you have data to fill it.

I am not changing my argument. My argument always was and always will be that Apple banned Flash due to it's ability to bypass the App Store. That has always been my argument and it will always be my argument.

To pretend that Apple won't take drastic measures to protect it's brand and perceived value of their products is ludicrous. Apple and Costco had a fallinjg out because Costco was discounting Apple products too much. Apple pulled it's line from Costco so it could protect the value of those products. To think that Apple wouldn't ban a technology that, in their eyes, infringed on their revenue stream or devalued the worth of their apps is not being honest with yourself.

I stand by my argument, Apple banned Flash because Flash was a threat to their App Store revenue.

A car can last for 20 yrs, no smart phone today will be around in 20 yrs. Im with att and contract pricing is going bye bye. I went there and was told its no money down and then a monthly fee for 24 months or the $199 and then some fee I have now thats $15 a month would go to $40 a month. So it was to push one to the paying the phone off.
Now everyone can do what they want but I wont be upgrading as often with this change.

A car, a phone, price is relative to the item, of course. But item depreciates nonetheless. The $ amount is different but it's the % of original price that is key. You can sell your item 2 years after you bought it for fair market value. Matters not if its a phone or car. The value will be reflected in the items condition and future viability. A 2 year old unlocked iPhone is worth about $300, about half original value. A 2 year old Corolla is worth about $13K, about 60% it's original value.

I'm w/ ATT too. My contract is up in Sep and I was told I can reup my current plan, same price, no new fees, if I want to so not sure what you were told. If I have to pay full boat for a phone, no big deal. I'll sell it in 2 years and come out the same as if it was subsidized.

If it was truly "late" then consumers would have rejected the current size a long time ago, and the iPhone would be in decline because users found a phone in the size they want. But the iPhone 5s is the best selling iPhone of all time, so your theory is bunk.

They have. Hundreds of millions of them are flocking to large Androids. It is only because the smartphone market is still growing so rapidly that drags Apple along with it.

Why can they put 128 GB in an iPad, and cannot in iPhone? Why?

well, even though the 5,5" iPhone 6 seems quite similar to the iPad mini there is still some difference in size...
(the 128 GB - 2x64 GB? - nand chips is still not small enough I guess)

The problem is that until recently, everyone was used to 2 year contracts and subsidized pricing. As a result, phone companies jacked up the price of their phones, knowing that the cell company would cover the majority of the cost, with customers covering the remaining amount. This is one of the main reasons that the iPhone costs so much off contract. Apple set that price high, knowing that cell companies would pick up a majority of the tab.

Now that US providers are moving toward a model that the rest of the world shares, consumers aren't going to be all too happy.

That $200 (on contract) phone now costs $650 (what?). Sure they've "reduced" the price of the plans, but not really, you still end up paying full price for the phone over time.

I really do hope as companies move to full price devices all the time, the prices for these devices go down. If I had to spend $650 to get an iPhone, I probably wouldn't.

Especially since AT&T and Verizon quietely moved a lot of people off subsidized pricing when they lowered the price on family plans. Rather than paying $199 or $299 - a lot of families are going to realize they are on a program like Next which will require them to pay an extra $35-$50 a month for each iPhone 6. It probably won't be a big deal for people who have a single upgrade. But for families who upgrade multiple devices at the same time, it'll add up quickly.

They'll quickly forget about the money they've saved when they converted the new family plan pricing that treated all phones (no matter how new) as 'off contract' and be on here complaining that they are 'getting screwed.'

In reality they are just paying for the phone the same way as the rest of the world. Heck, at AT&T makes it a big easier by not requiring money down and spreading out the payments.....but it's still gonna be a shock for a lot of people.

I don't think it'll impact the early adopters and those who 'gotta have' the new phone. But I can see a lot of people holding off upgrades for the whole family or for users who still like their current devices.

Not enough to put a dent in iPhone sales. Of course Apple sees the trend to larger screens but it's not late, it's right on time. Late means missed opportunity or having to play catch up. But iPhone 5s sales grew rather than declined.

Of course they grew. The entire market is still growing. If Apple were to post declining sales in a growing market that would mean that they would be in a monumental crisis and quite possibly - yes - doomed.

Iphone 6, What Iphone 6?

I know lots of websites are all saying that the launch of the next Iphone is imminent. I however disagree. I think that no and I mean NO new hardware will be launched this year.
The reasons are as follows
Firstly due to the secrecy at Apple, they are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They can not openly talk about their upcoming products but on the other hand they can not stay silent. So they release a few rumours that they start themselves. Not all leaked photos are from employees smuggling them out. I believe that some are from Apple direct to start the hype mill.
All the leaks we have at the minute are far too early considering the earliest the Iphone would be released is october, perhaps September.
Even if none of the recent leaks are from Apple then it is still far too early.
next I think that it shows that there was a problem regarding the Iphones that are still not sorted so the Iphones(both the 4.7" and 5.5) are delayed.

Next there are far too many devices for Apple to launch all at the same time or at best very close together.

Apple does not launch major products at same time or close together as it takes the shine and attention away from each other

here is a list of the minimum devices still to be launched

Iphone 6 4.7"
Iphone 6 5.5"
Ipad air 2
Ipad Mini retina 2
Macbook Pro 13"
Macbook Pro 15"
Ipods(as they have not been updated in ages and sales are declining fast)
New products such as the iwatch or whatever Tim Cook keeps hinting at

So there is no way Apple will launch all at same time.
next Apple won't launch them within a week of each other which they will have to do(or at least very close together).
The firms that make all the Apple devices simply do not have enough time or manpower or capacity to produce the amounts of devices in the volumes needed by Apple in time to be launched.

I think that Tim Cook has lost control of the situation and simply now has no option but to stall and keep talking about new products that will not appear ever!

The earliest any new device will be launched will be next year during summer. That won't happen as we know summer is all about software

There is no evidence apart from rumours that Apple will be launching any new hardware including Iphones.

I am a fan of some Apple products but am tired of the problems and the false promise of products that do not exist and never will do.
Tim Cook is ruining apple and ruining the legacy that Steve Jobs built up.
Time for Tim Cook to be sacked and go while Apple are still able to maybe launch a half hearted product launch this year.
Oh and lets not forget that Tim Cook said that there would be great new products launched throughout 2014
So we are more than 6 months in to the year and still no products at all!

I hardly count a slight Macbook Air and slight Imac as new products.
If you blinked you would have missed them.

so where is the evidence for all these new products?
where are they?
They DO NOT EXIST!

Apple and Tim Cook has lost the plot as by the time they launch the any new Iphone Firms such as Samsung would have launched the Galaxy s8
and it will be a serious contender to the Iphone 6

Hardly a clever idea to wait and wait and wait and wait till your competitors launch phone after phone after phone till you finally get a grip and launch a new iphone.
