You lose about $200 on resale value by trading your phone back in. For instance: The iPhone 6 AT&T sold for $649 + tax or about $700. You paid off 60% or $420 after 12 months and then trade it back in. The resale value is around $450 now. This means you lose out on the $170 difference in resale minus amount owed. It makes no sense to upgrade unless you have extra money in your pocket or mistakenly purchased a Galaxy S5, at which point you would probably break even.
That resale value is likely to go down another $100 once the new phone launches. If you are able to go without a phone for a couple weeks, or are willing to deal with the hassle of a replacement phone for that time, it's a no-brainer. I have bought/sold/resold phones for ages. The reality is, while I was in school. this made a lot of sense (the phones held more value back then too, especially since you could unlock and ship them to countries that didn't have official iPhone launches). Now, you are lucky to make back $100 if you resell your phone. Really depends on where you are in life and how much it's worth it to you to try and sell a phone. For many, it's just not worth the extra effort.

Trying to place and order for a "Paid In Full" iPhone on my Verizon account but a $40 activation fee keeps showing up... Why am I paying this if I am buying the phone outright? This an error?
I had the same thing show for me but at least for Verizon there should be no fee. Also when I review the order in the app I don't see an upgrade fee listed. Either way if I do get hit with one I'll be sure to have Verizon reverse it.

Waited forever for t-mobile site to come up to find out iPhone 6S is not even available for order online.... Total BS!
I assume you didn't log in at all beforehand? Hopping on TMO website has a giant banner saying the preorders must be called in. All in all, it wasn't a bad experience. I was done in under half an hour and have an estimated deliver of the 23 (two days before official launch). I can't complain.

I hope this iPhone Upgrade Plan is worth it. I did the math and it seems better than trying to do the same thing on Verizon and I get a new iPhone every year with AppleCare+ without having to find the best trade-in values for a scratched up phone, etc, as Apple's plan doesn't care about scratches. It will also get me off a contract in a year and I can start exploring my options with this new extended LTE stuff that T-Mobile supports on the 6S. I'm very interested in trying that out.

Wondering why you didn't choose 64GB - it was probably a 4-8 dollars more and with photos, videos and apps 16GB may not work for you

My 5C is currently a 16GB and it's actually fine for my needs. I did consider a 64GB since I do take a lot of pictures for my Art classes. But hopefully if I change my mind they may have one 64GB left on the 25th. (I doubt it but you never know.)

Anyone else have to text Apple's reservation system to get a code for in-store pickup?!? I followed the instructions and still haven't gotten a response back. Ridiculous.
You can thank the jerks who hacked Jennifer Lawrence's iCloud account for that. Everything Apple requires dual authentication now. Fortunately for me the text came through quickly.

Ordered via the website which took a few minutes extra to open its doors (08:06 UK time) which is no biggie as I'm sure the site takes a few minutes to become available.
The app was however open and available first, but there was no PayPal option (that I could see) when choosing 'other payment options' so I ended up ordering via the Apple website on iPad.

Note - PayPal Credit offers 4 months interest free for purchases over £150.

The overall experience was smooth, easy and simple when you consider the demand and high volume. I went for a 64GB which I'm sure would be in less demand over the 16GB and might have contributed to my painless pre-order.

One-Time Upgrade Fee $40 is noted on my email confirm but not part of the total from Apple. Ordered through Apple Store App for Verizon. Paid full price to keep my unlimited data and at least the confirm email says "unlimited data."

But I don't think I should have to pay upgrade fee if paying full price. Hope the $40 doesn't show up on my next bill from Verizon.

I'm having the same BS issue. i want to pay full price and Verizon is forcing me to agree to a $40 upgrade fee. wtf? this is happening on both Apple store and Verizon store. so now i am trying to make a reservation to pick it up in store to avoid this and the reservation site keeps telling me to "update my apple id"! this is getting frustrating.

Thanks for the math - I had a NEXT balance of $ 1060 for all 3 phones - it felt easier to just pay sales tax now than front all that money at once - but I will definitely be ready for next year's iPhone7

I'm sure delivery dates will change quite a bit in the next week. I'm hoping to get my 6s+ before October.

Anyone order a 128gb through AT&T? I ordered 2 phones through them tonight. A 64gb for my husband and a 128gb for me. I have confirmation orders for both but only the 64gb is showing up as preparing to ship. The 128gb is still in progress and that's the order I placed first! Grrr.

I got into the Verizon store at 2:59pm (2 minutes earlier) ordered by 3:05am EST...woulda been sooner but i forgot my credit card downstairs lol

They should seriously make an android app for ordering the iphone that has priority over other methods! (I wish...) still can't get into the online store...

Preordered on Verizon. 3rd year in a row that everything went smoothly
What Kind of delivery date did you get? For the 6S Plus 128 I just ordered, I was excited to see 9/25 but after the order went through it was ships by 9/25 and delivers by 9/30.

I just got a confirmation email saying mine is reserved. Saw nothing about a text or code - just an email with the subject line "Your iPhone is reserved." I assume, for this reason, that my "iPhone is reserved". That is all.

Same here. Nothing about a code texted to me, emailed to me, or conveyed on the confirmation page. I preordered two phones in full for good measure. I still plan on going to the store at the time I selected to do the upgrade program for the two aforementioned phones; of the reservation and upgrade program are successful, I'll return the preordered phones later that day.
