I just pray they keep good specs in the 4 inch display!

I have large hands, I can palm a basketball easily, and I think the iPhone 6 display is simply to big.

When Steve Jobs said the 4 inch display was the perfect size because your thumb could easily manage the corner of the device, he couldn't have been more correct.

He couldn't have been more correct... for you. 4" is waaaaay too small. It feels like holding a toy. I occasionally have to use my coworkers 4S to show him how to do things on it and it feels ridiculously tiny. (I know the 4S is 3.5", but 4" is really no different)

----------

I'm pretty sure the 16gb is a marketing move to urge users to purchase the 64gb...

At this point, yes. 100%.

What a complete load of rubbish. The design is 8 Months old. What are you talking about. or do you mean the fact it has a Home screen on the bottom? and has kept roughly the same shape for 7 years? What else do you want an Dodechaedron phone? There is a very good reason to keep the same rough design, so there is a healthy Case and accessories market. Something that Android and WinPhone do not have in any way.

No he didn't. Just pointed out that it was close to the perfect size to actually reach with one hand. And that remains true.

Your quote started out batting 1.000 in the first half: You're right Apple doesn't need a design change, nothing wrong with it per se. If I was to make any change it would be to find a way to make it less slippery with the rounded edges. And the bezel. Holy crap the bezel.

Then you completely struck out: There's no logic to your case and accessories argument. Cases for 5C, 5S, 6, 6+ aren't interchangeable. Every new phone has required a different case size. Not sure where you're getting your Android and WP info, but it's wrong. Cases and accessories are available for pretty much any phone from budget to flagship.

Jobs championed 3.5" as the right size. Cook said 4". Neither was right then, and it's still not right today. The right size is the one that each individual customer chooses for him/herself. It's okay to want a 4" phone. Everybody has preferences. There is no one right size.

Needs evolve and what is right is determined by the market and not by companies. I sincerely hope that you are not in charge of a business.

First of all, which bit of "in an ideal world" didn't you understand?

Second, if you were right in absolute terms we wouldn't have a Mac (or Windows for what matters) or a mouse, or the iPad, etc...
These are all products that created a market, not followed one.

What might appear right (to the simple mind) for business purposes does not necessarily win in the long term.
Innovation is all about stepping out of the beaten track.

Another vote for a smaller flagship. The 6 and 6+ are clown phones.

For me, if they had a 12" iPad with a telephony chip in it, I'd buy it. Having said that, I'm with you on this:

6C: 4" phone with the iPhone 6 specs - entry level phone
6NonC: 4" phone in Grey, Gold, or Silver with the 4" display, same specs as the S models - $99 base model
6S: 4.7" with new specs, $199 base model
6S+: 5.5" with new specs, $299 base model

I just don't like the idea of getting a smaller screen and having to go with last year's specs.

You can always get a case.

I'll never understand why people want to walk around with $500 phones and $600+ iPads without protective cases on them anyway - especially with Apple products, which usually have good resale value if you take care of them. (/random comment not directed at your post).

The 5C's design is fine, I guess, but I wouldn't like mine as without the case I bought for it. I think it looks better and I like the more squared look, sturdy feel and extra weight it gives the phone.

I don't like cases. I'll never understand why people want to cover their beautiful phones with a plastic case. Granted, when you choose to get a case for your iPhone you might as well get the 5C.

I carry my 4S in this ultra-slim Sena sleeve.

Also, people should stop making generalizations on what size of a phone is "perfect". Apple clearly paid attention to various markets with the various sizes they offered. Every consumer is not the same. Some, such as myself, don't mind to carry a "TV" around with the 6+ (which isn't that big at all) and there are also some all don't mind to carry around a tootsie roll mini phone either. Honestly, the demand for bigger screens is hitting a plateau . That leaves people satisfied with 5.5, 4.7, 4. etc.

If this is true, then I'm happy that they are introducing a smaller iPhone to accompany those who think 4.7 is too big. I'm sure, however, they will complain that 4 is too big and ask for 3.5...2.0....1.0...an earpiece..lol

Any phone larger than 4" is a perfect demonstration of progress gone wrong.
In an ideal world companies should stick to what is right instead of sheepishly following market trends.

Apple making a bigger phone and phablet wasn't just following market trends. It was about staying relevant and a demand. A lot of people wanted a bigger phone. Screen was keeping a good number of people away from iphone for that very reason.

I prefer the 3.5" over the 4", I think that would make a better iPhone Mini. Seems to me that most people who wanted a bigger iPhone weren't happy with the 4", so why bother with it?

All that said, with the Apple watch coming the need for one handed use is reduced, so I might be tempted with one of the bigger models next time.

Let me guess...same sizes, slightly faster processor, better camera 13MP?..maybe move the sleep button. Yawn

Lol then you clearly don't have large hands. The 6+ is the first phone that in my large hands finally feels comfortable to hold and use -- I can one hand use it without problem. If you think the 6 is too big, then you really do not have large hands.

----------

Not back. A lot of us haven't 'upgraded' because of the size of the 6.

haha, yes and the massive wave of sales for the 6 shows the "lot" is FAR less than the rest of us who are buying the 6 and 6+ in huge volumes.

Can I interest you in a NEW Motorola RAZR?

If you are nearsighted, then perhaps you would have no problem with a 4" screen. The majority of phone owners are NOT nearsighted. The 4.7" display on my wife's Android phone is just what she likes. It also makes using the keyboard much easier. My 5" display is good for me with a keyboard that can be used in the portrait position. And I do not like little photos / images, so this phone makes viewing photos much more pleasurable.

"When Steve Jobs said the 4 inch display was the perfect size because HIS thumb could easily manage the corner of the device" he was not speaking about ALL of us, just an average 5'9" male person.

App developers, does 3 screen sizes make things much more complicated? Anyway, in my opinion 4.7" iPhone is the right sized iPhone. Hard to imagine using a 4" screen anymore.

We are already developing for 3 screen sizes - iPod Touch/iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ .... so we're already making sure our apps work in 4".

Yes, it's more complicated, but not that bad. We just need to make sure we use dynamic sizes and spacing in our GUIs, create a few different sized icons, and make sure we test in 3 different sizes (plus 3 more rotated sizes if the app rotates).

It's much easier than developing for Android. The Android issue is that - yes - you must use dynamic sizes and spacing, but there are 6 different sizes (and 6 rotates sizes). At first glance, this looks like double the amount to test (12 vs 6). Not that bad...

But the real issue is that there are dozens of different processors running at different speeds in Android. Plus, feature sets on one phone that don't exist on another - like having to support hardware keyboards in addition to software keyboards, because some phones have those.

In iOS, we can just test those 3 or 6 resolutions on 3 different devices, and we're sure it will work across all the phones. On Android, we have to have dozens of different phones to test with. So, iOS is still relatively easy.

Ooh good I hope this is true. 4" fully specced iPhone 6C would be perfect :)

This is like the 10th time I've read this sentiment....

It's not getting any less idiotic.
The 5C fell into the "free on contract" slot.
It was a cheaper phone, made with cheaper parts.
It was NOT "fully specced" to the current gen. It was previous gen, in a cheaper case.
Am I the only one that remembers this????
I feel like I'm on crazy pills!!!!

None of you are getting a $200 cheaper than flagship plastic phone, that's miraculously going to have the same features of their current flagship. Duh. It will OBVIOUSLY get guts of last gen.

Really kind of predictable. I hope they do something to improve the camera. It's good, but not great (IMHO).
Which camera? on 5c or 6? Because i6 still has the best camera among all flagships, the only phone that beats it is Note 4 (not by much), but that one belongs to the phablet category anyway...

I like my iPhone 6. The 6+ is too big. However, my wife is due for an upgrade from her 5s this year and she hates my 6. So, yes, there's a big market for the smaller phone. My wife isn't going to "give in" and get the 6. She'll either keep her 5s, get a new 5s, or switch to another phone altogether. The iPhone 6 simply too big for her.

Hope this is true.

Skylake? What is that my good sir?

Skylake is Intel's 6th generation of processors, the launch should be in Q3 2015.
The wait for that is long, because it will feature Thunderbolt 3, that will be faster enough to drive 5K monitor, also it might be able to charge your macbook at the same time, maybe a Thunderbolt Display 2 that is able to charge your computer, be a dock and a monitor at the same time with just 1 cable. Pretty much USB 3 Type C on steroids.
