The 4 inch as the article alludes will probably be the 6C

and if they're continuing the usual "C" model from the 5C then it wont be the same specs. The 4 incher (6C) will have the specs of the last generation phone like the 5C did.

So I think it's very possible they could easily make a 4 inch 6C this year that has last year's Iphone 6 specs. I mean honestly I feel like a 4 inch Iphone 6 could've been made last year and still fit the same specs aside from maybe the exact same battery life.
And the price of 4" version would've been...the mess or hmm what, Between 6 and 5S which was ...$149 subsidized?

I know people have varying preferences for sizes, but I can't believe the complaints about the phone. I had a 6 and I felt like it was pretty slippery, but I could easily reach the corners; and I am far from being able to palm a basketball. Hell I have a 5.2" display ony phone right now and I can reach the corners fairly consistently. I have noticed that anything over 5" in screen size is pretty much going to be operated 2 handed when having to type things out. Around 4" is real nice for 1 handed typing, but other than that and physical size, I don't have a reason to want smaller. As for the 6C I don't think you'll need an A8 for Apple pay to work, unless the NFC chip is embedded into the A8. It'll probably just have an A7 and replace the 5S

I used to buy a new iPhone every year. I skipped the iPhone 6 because it's too big. I want a new 4" iPhone that supports Apple Pay.

I believe the A8 is required to support Apple Pay. I don't believe Apple will introduce any new iPhones that do not support Apple Pay.

It won't be a new phone but 5S rebadged with upgraded A8 and NFC chips and probably sold at 3rd tier in the line up: 6S+, 6S/6+, 6, 6C and discontinue 5S

I still prefer the iPhone 4S' size. Not really interested in the iPhone 6, it's too damn big for my taste... and I'm not even talking about the Plus. A 4-inch iPhone 6S would make me reconsider, but certainly not a 4-inch 6C if that ends up looking like the 5C.

App developers, does 3 screen sizes make things much more complicated? Anyway, in my opinion 4.7" iPhone is the right sized iPhone. Hard to imagine using a 4" screen anymore.

As a developer: Not at all, if you use modern ways to create your user interface. You must make sure that everything fits on 4", which you had to do anyway when everything was 4", so that is no extra work. And unlike the iPad, the 6+ is not big enough that you would want a different user interface (iPad often has two views side by side where iPhone uses one view after the other).

You just need to avoid doing stupid things. If you want a button at the bottom of the screen, you tell iOS "put it 0.2 inch from the bottom". If you say "Put it 3.6 inch from the top" then obviously that won't look right on the 6+, but that would be a stupid thing to do.

And as always, 4" has the disadvantage that it is smaller to look at, but has the advantage of being smaller in your pocket. And people who want a 4" phone want the latest technology. I was actually surprised that there was no 4" iPhone 6.

You can always get a case.

I'll never understand why people want to walk around with $500 phones and $600+ iPads without protective cases on them anyway - especially with Apple products, which usually have good resale value if you take care of them. (/random comment not directed at your post).

The 5C's design is fine, I guess, but I wouldn't like mine as without the case I bought for it. I think it looks better and I like the more squared look, sturdy feel and extra weight it gives the phone.

The Touch ID/Home button seems very old now. They have to come up with something better for the 2016 phone.

The 6c needs to be better than the 5s, otherwise I'll just stick with the 5s. For me "better" would be larger storage and faster. Frankly don't need the rest. But I'm guessing they will make it at least apple pay and apple watch compatible.

NFC and Secure Element (SE) are required to support Apple Pay. These are on the NXP PN548 in the 6/6+, not the A8.

There's no reason Apple Pay couldn't be supported on an A7 device if the NFC/SE hardware were added.

why would they make anoter "C" version when the last one was such failure?

Was it? There are a lot of 5c's around. They're still selling plenty of them as entry level smartphones.

I would very much like to see Apple create the most beautiful phone of the world, like some years ago, with the iPhone 4...
If they'd do, you would at first see a huge sh*tstorm about bad design, just as when the first iPhone 4 images leaked ...

4 inches is the perfect size for me!!!
Fixed that for you ...

3.5 inches is good too but not so fun for watching movies, gaming and web browsing.
Now that's strange. You are massively voting against anything bigger than 4" and then you bring up the perfect examples for bigger screens!

Any phone larger than 4" is a perfect demonstration of progress gone wrong. In an ideal world companies should stick to what is right instead of sheepishly following market trends.
Contrary to common belief among Apple users, the wishes of the customers are a major factor in product development (together with technical progress, usage scenarios etc.). 101 of market mechanics.

And all those factors influencing development plans not only can, but will change over time. So there is no be-all, end-all decision about what's "right".

I still remember the time when there was a race towards "who can build the tiniest phone?". A 3.5" brick of a phone would have been laughed at during that time.

I'm sure it'll be better than the 5s, because the 5c specs are actually not vastly different than the 5s already. Then again, who knows - The latest MacMini was a downgrade from the 2012 model, and the new MacBook specs (like it's processor and 480p webcam) are underwhelming.

This!!!!
I just pray they keep good specs in the 4 inch display!

I have large hands, I can palm a basketball easily, and I think the iPhone 6 display is simply to big.

When Steve Jobs said the 4 inch display was the perfect size because your thumb could easily manage the corner of the device, he couldn't have been more correct.

I went from an iPhone 4 to a 6, and I absolutely HATE the size of it. I want a PHONE. One that'll fit in my pocket comfortably. One that I can easily and comfortably use with one hand. If I need more screen, I'll pull out my iPad Mini. I can't even fathom having a 6+. Seriously hope someone at Apple is seeing this.

IIRC there was an Apple patent application a few years ago, about having TouchID integrated into the normal screen.

On the other hand having a (physical) home button sitting there available all of the time is not only an important psychological factor, but a key element of Apple's design language for the iPhone (and iPads, btw).

The "failure" of the phone that outsold S4 & S5 and didn't sell more because even idiots can see the 5S was so much better at a slightly higher price.

Please, let's have some decent capacities on the 4" model... and ditch the candy colours... I'm going back to a 5S because the 6 is too big too use comfortably one-handed... and I don't have small hands...

a strong vote for keeping a regularly updated smaller form factor in the new products pipeline.

apple can solidify its watch marketing strategy by keeping a smaller size iPhone in the line. this is the strongest incentive for apple to do it.

many users just want the option for a smaller state of the art device. apple does not need to cripple it with performance tradeoffs.

on the other hand if the strategic motivation is for a lower price point model and apple tries to achieve it for that reason, then apple would likely under-power it and cripple it with less storage than normal.

but something tells me that apple's recent marketing successes in china can provide a model for how it can also conquer a market like India, without resorting to devices that don't provide optimal usability.

there are so many marketing directions a smaller screen device can be applicable: outdoor use; emerging markets; basically a screen and home for watch services.

just price it only USD 100 less than the new 6s. but keep it fully functional with a max storage of 128GB and keep the same RAM that is used in the new models as well.

5c data show positively that even a marginal price discount was able to achieve its intended target sales (even though many thought it sold poorly, in fact it was a in the top 5 models across all smart phones).

apple: please....

no way! is this for real???

/s

anyway i can't wait to return to iPhone/iOS. gimme that 6S! might even go for the 6S+.

o from one year to another Apple is becoming Samsung, in 5 years will begin to sell 10 different iphones

What would the prices of these be?

My guess is this(starting prices)

6sPlus=$300
6s(lol that sounds like "success")=$200
6Plus and 6 will likely not be sold by Apple but may be available online for about $250(6+) and $150(6)
6c=$100
5s=free

Please don't add new features that ALSO won't be available in most countries of the world before the next model is out.
