Whats bad about 1st gen? I prefer it since its slower. The new one is too fast for no good reason.

That's exactly what I personally heard from many 6S owners: its TouchID is too fast and they want it to be a bit slower. I think not many of us complained how the first gen TouchID found in the 5S worked. If we get the same TouchID in the SE as in the 6, I think it will be more than comfortable to use it.

I'm going for the SE not because it'll have the least problems from a hardware standpoint, but because I love the 4" form factor. Going from my iPhone 6 and ordering tomorrow!

Seems that I got lucky then with my 6S. No dust under the screen, TSMC A9, all the good stuff, none of the bad.

That's great! Lucky you!

What I've heard about dust under the screen with the 6S, is that it is not a question whether you have it or not, but when dust particles will finally enter your phone through the silent switch. This seems to be part of Apple's design with this new 3D Touch feature leaving a gap between screen components. There are so many people on the net complaining about it, but the majority of other owners doesn't care to look for this issue which is a good way of dealing with tech given that ignorance is indeed a bliss.

I hope your phone will never have any dust under the screen though, personally I would find it terrible, as I always say that almost every modern smartphone is basically a large screen that you look at every day and this screen must be simply perfect! (Without any dust, dead pixels etc.) Somebody doesn't care about it much, but I certainly do.

Anyone else bummed about the Touch ID being fits gen? I'll probably just disable it
No, it seems to work well enough for me on my iPhone 6. If its a hassle, I'll disabled but I'm not really worked up over it, one way or another.

I must be lucky then too, I've had 6 iPhones in the last 5 years and only had to replace 1 when the volume down button stopped working. All my other iPhones were perfect.

Tbh, in my opinion the 6S is the best iPhone I've ever had and I've owned them all

I hear ya.

Sticking with my iPhone 6S Plus.....never had any issues with the iPhone 6 plus /6s plus.

This is a really interesting phenomenon because the two phones are so different. What makes it even more interesting is that the SE is really just a rehashed iPhone 5s. So people really are buying into the upgraded internals and any other aspects that are inferior to the latest/greatest are trumped by the screen size. Never woulda thunk it, to be honest.

The more form factors the better. I always though it would be good for Apple to have at least 3 form factors for the iPhone.
Guess we will see if this works out.

Thread starter keeps coming with this, 'it's only my opinion' & 'this threads just to share thoughts', approach.
Then you look at the title and see its a clear instruction to get the SE over the 6s.

Its nice apple is making an updated small phone but they could of at least made a new design.
Something about recycling a design from 2012 seems off. And people are actually selling their 6 for this?

The best thing about this "old design" that nobody gonna steal it :D

The iPhone SE has the capability and longevity to replace both 6 generations as the low end model for the next 2-3 years. The most useless model is actually the iPhone 6 and is priced higher. It could also replace the iPhone 6s/6s Plus once the 7 series are above it. For anyone saying 6s is the best iPhone ever, well that is your opinion to justify your purchase. But SE can replace it after September 2017 because the low end should be with a different sized model and SE happens to be the smallest.

I just hope when Apple comes around updating the iPhone SE, they change it up with the design. It is fine if they kept it the same size or made it a tad bigger, but using the same rear design for four generations is being lazy. Change up the design and use the same SoC of the 7s model matching it with RAM, so by March 2018 we should get an SE succssor at the earliest. I don't expect any updates to the SE next year. Perhaps a 128 GB model and different color scheme at the back.

Again, iPhone SE is the greatest mix/greatest hits collection of the last four gens of iPhone or the last two gens of the s models. I really don't give a damn about the size. I'm content with "5 or higher. But for value, specs, longevity, and better rear design, it delivers in spades and moreso than the 6 series. This could be the longest updated iPhone since the 4s. Anyone who buys and held onto their iPhone 4/4s and 5/5s should be good with the SE until the next decade.

The SE is *not* replacing a 6s, not sure why anyone would think that. It's not even the internals, it's the size factor and price. As far as the "best" iphone, the "best" iphone is the one you have with you, no need to justify anything.

It's obvious that apple will keep the 6s(+) around for a few years. I can see the SE being updated with 6S internals after the release of the iphone 7s. I do care about size and am torn between the bigger screen of the 6s and the portability of the SE, however, I am keeping my 6s as it's the best phone for me.

I do agree the iphone 6 is going to fade away into the sunset as did the iphone 5 before it.

Pretty sure I'm going to sell my 6 and get an SE but holding off until reviews come in. If audio quality and battery are good then it'll be worth it to me.

I miss the smaller form factor that I could handle in one hand easily and that would dissapear in my pocket.

The SE is pretty much already the internals of the 6s so I don't see them releasing another one with just two or three extra features in 6 months.

The SE is entirely too small, atleast for me. I use my phone for everything...from phone calls, to browsing the web, to gaming, to watching Netflix and YouTube. A 4in phone just won't do for me. Hoping Apple has some nice surprises for the 7 Plus

Atleast the 5C looked new and pretty nice imo. I liked the plastic look.

x2. I'm already put off by the color combination of the 5s, but those stripes on the back of the 6 are UGLY. They look like micropore tape and are useless.

I'd go for the SE, and will never buy a phone bigger than that, but the 5s I bought last year still works like a charm.

Really? Why would you go from a 6S+ to an SE, it's far too small, especially if you're used to the 6S+. If you had the 5S then yeah sure why not but not the 6S+.
Battery life is one possible reason. My wife had a 6s plus because she wanted the battery but ended up going with the 6s. She's now going with the SE since it will be far more comfortable in her pocket. She uses the device I'd say well about 50% for work emails and texts as well as documenting various things via camers. She's bump about the fave time camera but she has three other devices in the house she has easy access to.

I'd say the good reason is not having to wait for it to unlock. I also got a lot more failed attempts with the older tech.

To each his own, really. A lot of people want to just wake the device with a button press. I can see both sides of the argument. As much as I lock and unlock my phone it certainly saves the annoyance of waiting. I'm able to get into the phone faster than even a four digit pass code would take. With the older tech I was faster at inputting the pass code than the touch ID was at unlocking.

Never had a single issue with my 6S, the OP seems to be looking for reasons to justify the SE. The ONLY advantage the SE has over the 6S (should one actually see it as an advantage) is the smaller footprint. It's inferior in every other way. Old form factor and some of the new features of the 6S but not worth buying. My 6S, many people at work, family and friends never have had the issues the OP speaks of with their phones. Just keep telling yourself the SE is a better phone- but you are only fooling yourself. Let's not forget the manufacturing issues the 5/5S had. There is no reason the SE doesn't have the same issues when it is released.eg. The screen popping out of the rear housing. Etc.
Oh, and the camera bump is not a valid "flaw", it's a design decision which is actually not an issue to worry about. Unless you also think the new iPad Pro 9.7 is also flawed as it has a "bump" too. Your reasons seem very invalid.

No dust under the screen of anyone I know. I think the term ignorance is bliss should be used for you buying the SE. I'm betting you never had amy dust, you are just trying to validate your purchasing decision. Too fast Touch ID? Come on! Why don't you just throw away your kettle too- as it boils water too quickly.

Agreed - Leave the 4 inches for 2013.

I, like I'm sure many others are completely baffled how you can go from all that 6S Plus screen real estate to that much much smaller screen on the SE. The threads post SE release will be very interesting. I think people were just lusting so much over a 5S design with new internals they're jumping the gun a bit.
X
I think people Are just lusting for a new apple product and welcome a switch from the iphone they have been using for two years and want to back to a smaller size. I am sure when the 7 comes out everyone with an SE will miss the size.

Lol, once you go back to this pathetic 4" display and when you browse your favorite website you'll begin to understand why during this period of time Apple was known to lag seriously behind every competitor due to its display size. I understand you getting all mouth watering over the actual dimensions of the phone but overall the display size is garbage in 2016. Once you start typing on it you will beg for the 4.7" display back. Apple should've put the 4.7" display in the body of the 5 series. Get rid of the top chunk and bottom chunk. Seems no one at Apple can solve this forehead and chin issue!

So? If you see a clear instruction in my thread title to run and buy the SE, do or don't do it. To me (again), it is just another personal opinion that you might or might not agree with. I don't really get your point: I am not trying to convince anyone of anything, why would I?

Hmmm, it seems you are trying hard to justify your decision to keep your 6S (6?) or your inability to switch to the smaller and cheaper SE with longer battery life. (without any ugly Samsung-like protruding camera lenses which don't do the new 9,7 inch iPad Pro any justice either considering the amount of complaints from artists I read about who want the same design as the bigger iPad Pro that you can lay flat on the table while drawing/typing - that's why I decided to stay away from this 9,7 inch iPad Pro) :)

I've honestly never heard of the 6S/dust under the screen thing until reading this thread

If you have never heard about the issue of dust entering the iPhone 6S and accumulating under the screen or looked properly at the screen of your 6S, then I can recommend you to read some of these threads (or do a quick google search yourself):

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7333065?tstart=0
https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...witch-design-flaw-3d-touch-iphone-6s.1940732/
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-6s-dust-under-screen.1922151/
https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/3nbjl4/iphone_6s_dust_under_screen/

Some people who actually care about the quality of the screen exchange their 6S's several times just to discover the same problem with their new phones, which is rather disappointing.

As far as I know, there were no complaints of 5/5S owners about this dust issue: while my 3GS accumulated dust under the screen and it was sad to find new dust particles every month, the problem was permanently solved after the introduction of the iPhone 4 in which glass and screen were glued together as one package. The new 6S with its "groundbreaking" 3D Touch feature reintroduced this issue (unfortunately).

Ignorance is and remains a bliss, I still believe.

I'm sick of android as well. I can foresee Apple having huge problems with next iPhone 7 because the best they could come up with for this iPhone SE was to recycle same 2012 display but upgrade the internals. It's like watching 4K movies on my trinitron CRT.

Let's pray sir jony comes up with something legit for the iPhone 7. The iPhone 6 series is the ugliest phone ever from Apple. I like the 5 series styling the best. Since they are now hip to recycling old bodies they should make a 4.7' iPhone 6 SE that sports the same display in a 5 series bod style. The battery would be larger too!
