Weird. My iPhone is coming to me tomorrow, but I'm strange for doing things the easy way.
that's the funniest thing I've ever read on MR.. apple is the most locked down no choice firm going.. till last yr, one phone a yr to choose from, we won't count the 5c as a choice.. don't like safari, apple mail, apple maps. tough, they are the default , and boy you will learn to love them.. brilliant......but choice is AWESOME!

So people don't have alarm clocks to wake up and preorder? I've gotten every iPhone I've wanted, on release day, delivered to my door. If it's about the social aspect, then they can get on here and chat away with everyone around the world about the iPhone/apple, etc. If it's about the in-person social aspect, well, they need to get out more.![]()
Whoa hello!!! Hi Kris. Long time.
quick recap, I changed my last name to Chandler in June to take my step-dad's last name. I moved to New Hampshire in 2010 to take a job as a project Manager at TomTom and I travel as much as possible and am still a huge Apple Geek! we should chat more. it's been quite a while! Laura is still living in San Francisco working as head of online design for I think Pottery barn Kids. She and I talk often and I see her at least once a year in SF to go to a baseball game, etc. She's fantastic. Life is good overall.
http://blog.adamchandler.me is my new home online. Outside of sometimes commenting on forums, I don't really participate in social media like Twitter and Facebook anymore. Just have my blog (so old school) and flickr.
what do you take about with these like minded folk?. after you've exhausted colour, memory size and plus or non plus model, they are just strangers stood next to you also with very little of note going on in their lives...I love going to midnight launches for books and games. But this is just ridiculous. As in, I can see the value of waiting an hour or two with likeminded fans but to spend days doing it? It's loopy.
I suppose part of it is down to envy that I don't have enough free time to just do that. But I'd spend it doing other things at least!
Looks like a lot of people called in sick today
I don't understand why anyone would do this.

Someone didn't realise one can preorder. I'll be getting mine tomorrow morning courtesy of UPS.
I heard that many of the people in front of the German stores are from northern and especially Eastern Europe where the iPhone won't be available for a few weeks.
These people have can't preorder or reserve a phone so the only way for them to get one is line up and hope they have stock.
That also explains why the lines are so long in Germany compared to the other stores.

Lots of crapping here about Apple geeks waiting in line. Quick story:
I was an assistant manager at an Apple Store and was scheduled to be opener for our grand opening. Get things prepped, start preparing everything for the big day. I had also camped out for opening of every Apple Store in our state so far with a collection of T-shirts they used to give out. I showed up at my store at midnight, got in line (4th place) and had a great time talking to other Mac lovers, chatting, talking about software and just ultimately having a nice time. One of the guys was from my MUG (Mac User Group for you young people).
Then at 7:30AM, I got up, unlocked the doors and started my duties. The guys were surprised but they understood what it means to wait for a store opening. I've camped out overnight for every Steve-Note at Macworld in NY, Boston and SF since 2003. I went to over 15 store openings and I've camped out for every iPhone since the first generation in 2007.
I was first in line for the iPhone 3G in San Francisco in 2008 (photos of me if you guys wanna google it).
Waiting in line is a tradition for me and I love talking to other apple lovers. **** all you want but some of us actually enjoy it. It's the experience.
Unfortunately, most of the people waiting in line these days are just buying phones to sell on the black market in China and the past 2 years of iPhone waiting are lawyer and doctor assistants just getting phones for their boss or a GF holding line for her BF who works nights and all kinds of stories. I haven't met a real die hard line waiter in quite a while. The romance isn't what it used to be.
I'll be lining up tonight in New Hampshire with my Apple hat, shirt and Macbook with charger. I can't wait!
Samsung users are smart enough to realize these days that you can order phones online and they show up on your doorstep a day later.
To me this was a marketing strategy...to make neighboring countries have it while the other doesn't. This creates one country's launch lines to be long because it's accommodating the other country. Human personalities are always trying to be like everyone else so they don't stand out, or to show off to their friends in their own country that doesn't have it. It boils down to getting "attention." Apple could easily launch it in all countries but they limit their supplies to create this "imaginary demand" and of course these select countries launches with their neighbors doesn't have it also creates this "imaginary demand." Personally, what Apple is doing is just making a fool out of everyone and everyone is falling for it like a herd of sheep following each other...silly, that's why this world is so broke. How many of you guys buying this iPhone 6s are paying by cash and how many by credit cards? If the ones by credit cards, do you have a zero balance on all credit cards and paying it off all purchases immediately? If you don't then you can't afford it, even a can of soda you can't afford if paying with creditI heard that many of the people in front of the German stores are from northern and especially Eastern Europe where the iPhone won't be available for a few weeks.
