Seems pretty simple to me. 16gb sells more icloud storage.
However.. Google drive is unlimited and One Drive is 1-2 TB so their are options.
The 3GS base model was 8 GB. Please don't spread FUD.

I don't think you understand how "light" some users are. Unless you store a bunch of video, 16 GB is still a good amount. I have ~1600 songs, a couple thousand photos, and 50+ apps and would be ok with 16 GB as long as I didn't carry around video.16GB is just not enough nowadays, even if you're a "light" user.
If I pay for what I want, that isn't getting ripped off.ya you like getting ripped off, we get it.
They've managed to create the most disappointing S upgrade ever.
Because Apple is now what MS used to be. One big, clunky and most of all greedy corporation.
I gave up on iOS devices 3 years ago. Not coming back anymore since there is really no reason to come back.
Its 2015 Apple..... Improving the camera to take larger images and videos and keeping the storage the same is not looking after your customers. A lot of people do not realise the impact of getting a 16GB model....
They only make the 16gb because people buy it.
If you stop buying it, they'll stop making it, is that simple.
or play a few games that are each over 1gb.I don't think you understand how "light" some users are. Unless you store a bunch of video, 16 GB is still a good amount. I have ~1600 songs, a couple thousand photos, and 50+ apps and would be ok with 16 GB as long as I didn't carry around video.
All of that said, 32 GB should be the standard at this point. Apple is being greedy here.
The reason people are mad is because Apple makes a huge profit by making the base model uncomfortably small in terms of storage in 2015. The steps up to 64gb & 128gb of flash storage is not even close $100 either, so basically Apple is forcing us into stuffing their pockets a bit more.
LOL. Like I said, some people here need to chill. This isn't about taking away someone's phone. It's about 16 GB in a baseline phone. Thanks for adding to the convo!
It's actually much, much more than a phone in 2015. Let me take your iPhone away from you for 2 days and just give you a flip phone circa 2002. I'm sure you'd be inconvenienced and miss your iPhone.
Give it a break, making a 32GB base model will cost literally pennies for Apple, they're only doing it to encourage more and more people to jump up to the 64GB model allowing them to make more profit on every iPhone. Also, 16GB is not fine for many people at all, if you install all the social networking apps, music or video apps and then take a few photos you'll hit that limit easily, even if you stream everything else. There's very few people I know that don't regret buying a 16GB iPhone and that's exactly the kind of regret Apple wants to create to make more profit on their next purchase.
Well if the next version or future versions don't fulfill your needs then don't buy. When you are paying good money for your iphone it is.
I paid $800 for my unlocked iphone 6 +. I expect top of the line specs.
Not really true at all. We aren't going to make a switch to a crappy phone just over storage.
"Don't like 16GB, buy 64GB then"
Really? You let Apple get away with this that easily. We all know that iPhone 3GS was the first to come with 16GB at $199. That was in 2009. Here we are six years later, we still have the same 16GB at $199. Why is that?
Apple keeps showing the graph where the CPU/GPU speed keeps increasing. What about the storage graph? And it's not even a full 16GB. After byte correction and OS space, you have around 12.?? GB. 32GB model would have free space around 28GB. That's more than double. Wouldn't it be great if they add 16GB to your $199 iPhone for free? I can't understand why anyone would be against this.![]()
