And indeed, corrosion is a concern for 7075 aluminium due to the higher content of zinc which is more susceptible to corrosion.

So to all the people out there that says it can't possibly be apple's fault, think again. You guys stay in countries with low humidity, helping to reduce the chances of corrosion. But unfortunately I live in Singapore where humidity is high all year round.

I live in Florida with high humidity most of the time. No issues with my Gold iPhone 6s+

Im having the same issue, maybe it really is 'chipgate'

****ing zinc!!!

Ran a check on the Internet for corrosion on the Apple Watch Sport since it's also using 7000 aluminium and yes some people have reported corrosion on the back of the watch most likely due to sweat.

So I seriously do believe 7000 series is more prone to corrosion due to the presence of zinc.

This is completely ridiculous if you are saying your brand new iPhone corroded in two weeks, unless perhaps you are working in a lead acid battery factory and leaving it laying around in acid. Your body would not survive in an environment that anodized metals corroded in 2 weeks.

No corrosion or chipping on mine, 6S+, had it since release day. I really think the people with chipped devices have dud devices. If you're within the warranty period, exchange your device and check out the results.

I've never had a case or protector of any kind on mine and I've even dropped it a couple of times.

im not working on anything like that. In fact my work its in front of a computer i don't know how it happens on my first phone then i exchanged for a space grey but it has dust inside screen then i exchanged for the one i have now and i having this problem again could it be sweat? my hands are very sweaty!

If you sweat metal etching acid, then maybe.

I have probably bought 20 iPhones over the years and never exchanged one for corrosion, dust in the screen, chip manufacturer I didn't like, weird display colors, etc... and see people on here having it happen multiple times in a short period of time. I guess I'm just lucky.

Is it corroding in places where your hands are normally in contact with it? Do you use a case?

Maybe check your diet. Human sweat should not corrode aluminum from a bit of contact over the course of a couple weeks.

This whole discussion is getting a bit weird.

As weird as it may sound, but he may be right. Those areas where my phone showed chipping/corrosion are areas where I regularly rest my pinkies on. And yes, I am quite a sweaty person with mildly sweaty palms.

Even though I have sweaty hands, all my chipping occurred when my spigen case was attached and I don't usually hold my phone at the top or bottom where the chips actually are.

Oh no, now we're back to "you're holding it wrong" all over again. You just can't make this stuff up, lol.

I can't imagine this has anything to do with sweat. I throw my phone in a flip belt when I go on bike rides, in my older in the gym, or in the book holder in the treadmill. Suffice it to say it gets way more sweat in it than it would from a personals sweaty hand during daily use (I feel sorry for the poor batted who gets my used phone later in its life). I use an apple leather case. I'm happy to get pics if that helps any. This is either a relatively isolated manufacturing issue or something else is at play that we haven't figured out yet.

I am sad to join the very small iPhone 6s aluminum chipping club.

My space gray iPhone 6s is starting to get the same kind of chips along the antenna bands. I have owned this phone for about a month. It has always been in a Spigen Ultra Hybrid case. My usage patterns have always been the same as my previous iPhones. So not sure why this is happening when my previous iPhone, an iPhone 5s that I kept it, is still pristine. :(
