iPhone 6(S)/Plus iPhone 6s Plus aluminium chipping

I have had my iPhone 6s in an Apple silicone case and the bottom of it has two tiny marks exactly like the ones in the pictures of the OP's phone. It's in the same area, on the bottom section at the start of the antenna band, which is covered by the case.

Anodize#gate??

Yes guys. Please check carefully especially in the spots that's similar to where mine appear. Any pictures to show?

It is entirely possible that Apple is having problems anodizing a new series of aluminium as it's something new to them. The Apple Watch Sport is a tiny casing while the iPhone 6s/6s Plus is a much larger piece of aluminium to work with.

There's no chip"gate". You could take two of the same phone and bet you'll see differences as well. Glad you are happy though. That chipping you had to deal with looked pretty bad.
This isn't placebo effect. I'm pretty sure about it. The increase in usage times shown in the "Battery" section can't be my own imagination.

lol. That's a pretty big difference and I'm no power user. I don't even play games on my phone.

But really, what's the sense in even talking to a fanboi like yourself ? Lol. Apple for the win.

Hey apple fanboi, curious to hear your response on the iPhone 5 chipping? The iPhone 4 antenna? The iPhone 6+ bending? The iPhone 3GS cracking issues?

Apple messes up. They aren't perfect.

I'll be awaiting your reply once your school day is over and the bell lets you out.

Don't hold back.:D
I wholeheartedly agree that one extra hour of battery life is nothing to be scoffed at. Who here doesn't wish that iPhones were thicker and had bigger batteries? One full hour per charge cycle is a hefty increase.

I like how this thread started on chipping metal and went into another Samsung/TSMC argument.

Remember, the Samsung CPU "proves" to be more power efficient than the TSMC CPU in the Basemark OS battery test and the GFXBench battery test:

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/iphone-6s-a9-samsung-vs-tsmc,30306.html
This is the only article that claimed Samsung was better. All other articles personal and professional claimed the TSMC to perform better.

Sounds like you have the Samsung chip :D

That's what I'm using. Apparently even in the cover it's getting chipped.

Yes I understand. But it's just odd because my usage and storage patterns haven't change a single bit.

Guess what, you are not alone. I got the iPhone 6s rose gold on release date sept 25 and I have chips on the corners . I am completely shocked as I have handled with kid gloves! It has to be a defect!!!! I will be taking it back to Apple.

It seems to me you're trying to turn a very isolated issue into a problem with the manufacturing process.

My own annextodayel evidence: While we don't use our phones naked, the bottoms are certainly open. We have a space gray 6s plus, a rose gold 6s and a space gray 6s. All look like the day e night them, and the rose gold gets tossed in my wife's purse with keys, etc multiple times a day.

As with any smartphone, these things are being produced in massive quantities. This just isn't likely to be some grand manufacturing flaw. If it was, I suspect a lot more people would be speaking up by now.

U OPs lawyer or something? There's obviously something wrong with the way OP used his phone. I'm sure it didn't come out of the box like that.

Anyways, he got what he wanted... A replacement. Even though it's not apples fault. Apple never fails to deliver.

I seriously hope you are being sarcastic. Because does fail to deliver from time to time. I brought a Mbp back in 2012 and the logic board went dead after just 2 weeks I was just browsing the internet and the thing just died on me. When I got an iPhone 6 last year, it came with scratches straight out of the box. So according to you I probably opened the box wrong.

Apple is a multi billion company that produces tens of millions of gadgets every year there are bound to faulty products in the bunch. Impossible for Apple or any other company that produces on such a large scale to not have faulty products.

Forgot to get back to this thread. My friend got hers exchanged for a new 6S, and is now waiting for a replacement. I didn't see the phone myself, but those who examined it in person say there were scuff marks around holes at the bottom of the phone (speaker holes, charger hole and headphone hole).

I am not trying to convince the world this is another 'Gate'. I am just trying to share my problems and see if anybody else have this issue as well. No matter how small a percentage of people who might have this problem, IT IS still a manufacturing issue. And if this can get Apple's attention, then all the better. Because they can start to see what went wrong with their manufacturing process.

The best way to get Apple's attention is to tell them (as you have). This thread isn't going to do much. All you're doing here is repeating the same thing over and over again.

I agree this is a manufacturing issue. Can we also agree the thread has probably run to course?

Wasn't really repeating the same thing. Some posters here asked for updates. And thus I'm providing. If you think I'm here trying to gain fame by being the first to report a manufacturing issue of a new Apple product you couldn't have been more wrong. Look through my posting history and you can see I'm not an active thread starter here.

Moreover, we all know Apple monitors popular media outlets like Macrumors. I might have told Apple Singapore about this issue, but that doesn't mean my words will definitely reach HQ. If they are indeed trawling through Macrumors forums, they can already get their investigation up and going.

So you agree, you said it yourself, you want the notoriety.

There you go, you want to get notoriety from Apple HQ.

Aluminium on my 6s Plus has been chipping on its own especially at the edges. It's appearing at the bottom of my phone all along the antenna band and now it's appearing at the top. It's also appearing around my pentalobe screw holes, lightning port and headphone jack.

I seriously think it's a manufacturing issue. Some problem with the 7000 series aluminium that's causing the edges of the aluminium to be very very easily chipped. I used my phone with a cover since Day 1 and yet this happened. I used my 6 Plus pretty much naked for the whole year and yet it hasn't chipped even though it has softer 6000 series aluminium.

Do any of you have this issue?

Hey ts, my 6s is starting to have some chips along the home button to headphone jack area, and some started to appear on the pentalobe screw as well, though not as bad as yours.

may i know how you went about exchanging it ? email or heading over to service center ? from singapore as well.

I suggest you don't waste your time with service centre yet. Give a call to Apple and if possible email them pictures of your problem. Good luck!

No issues with two cases, and chipping on my gold iPhone 6s+ now, and a third case is on the way to use.

I think this same thing is beginning to happen to my 6S+ Rose Gold. I noticed very small black marks around the edges of the aluminum (not very many, at least not yet, but they look similar to the ones in the OP) and when I inspect them up close you can tell it's like the aluminum is disappearing. I've never dropped or damaged my phone.

Just took my spigen tpu case off and noticed some minor chipping around the right screw on the bottom and across the top on the camera side. Think I'm going naked from now on. I don't want to exchange as I have no other defects.
