Aluminium on my 6s Plus has been chipping on its own especially at the edges. It's appearing at the bottom of my phone all along the antenna band and now it's appearing at the top. It's also appearing around my pentalobe screw holes, lightning port and headphone jack.

I seriously think it's a manufacturing issue. Some problem with the 7000 series aluminium that's causing the edges of the aluminium to be very very easily chipped. I used my phone with a cover since Day 1 and yet this happened. I used my 6 Plus pretty much naked for the whole year and yet it hasn't chipped even though it has softer 6000 series aluminium.

Do any of you have this issue?

For anyone interested in a replacement iPhone, I went to a local Australian Apple store about the chipping problem. They said since it was external damage it's not covered by warranty/replacement, and they hadn't seen the problem before.

Just a quick update. My device was replaced about 1-2 weeks ago. And the problem is returning. Running a check shows that mine is manufactured in April this year. So I Guess even later batches are susceptible to this problem. Been sick recently. Haven't got time to bicker with them. But I think I should.
did you have to pay for the refurbished replacement?

Same problem here, iPhone 6s Space Gray

For reference, chipping only appears in exposed areas of the official silicone case

These data are not available for consultation.

But 500 is a significant number for our country.

I do not believe it is sold over 50,000 units 6s / 6s+ in our country.

1 per 100

i work with aluminum all the time at that looks like the anodize process was not done well, and now has become contaminted. and that usually happends when they don't clean there chemical tanks when they should.

500 doesnt seem that many out of tens of millions sold. over 13 million sold launch weekend.

500 only in Brazil.
around the world this number is higher.

Okay, anyway, a number not very expressive.

But that requires attention, since it is clearly a problem in the process.

find out the total number of iPhones sold in brazil and then do the math to see the percentage of phones reported with this problem. thanks.

So you think everyone that has that problem belongs to the group?

Not happening to mine, at least yet, 6s plus space gray.

And people wonder why I don't use cases. Cases are only moderately helpful when it comes to blunt force trauma issues (such as dropping). They're far worse for the phone when it comes to the general wear/tear of the edges of the phone provided you treat the phone well (i.e. no setting it on hard surfaces, keep it in an empty pocket, etc). Cases will accumulate grit which will lead to micro-scratches, pits, etc.

I doubt this is a manufacturing issue, this is almost certainly a 'cases suck' issue.

I never use cases on my phones (and I've had every model since the original), I treat them well, and they fetch top resale value due to their like-new condition when I sell them a year later.

Sorry couldn't understand your broken english. What is this supposed to prove?

It's hilarious that you think my English is broken.

Unless you're talking about the post that I was responding to:

its cuz of charging thing you scrape that everuone have that

This poster was suggesting that 'everuone' has chip marks around the lightning ports on their phones because 'of charging thing you scrape'.

I was pointing out that, no, not everyone damages their phone with their lightning connector. And, as counter-point to the above quoted claim, I offered photos of my own 6S Plus (purchased on the morning of launch) to demonstrate the lack of chipping there. I know my phone is not unique in its intact lightning port. Hence the declarative 'For some definition of everyone that isn't everyone': he was using the word 'everyone' when, demonstrably, that is not only not true in the technical sense, it's also not true in the spirit of the claim.

Context is important.

"For some definition of everyone that isn't everyone."

Even when taken into context, that was broken English. It wasn't an insult. I genuinely could not understand what you were trying to say.

But yes, I support what you were trying to say. I've owned 4-5 iPhones and never scratched any of them by the charging port. I'm meticulous when it comes to plugging my phone in.
