SCRATCH GATE sounds really bad I hope that mine once it arrives doesn't have this problem

The tempered glass version? I cant imagine how there even could be a halo. Picture?

See below. It's aligned perfectly, it just suffers from the "screen protector applied to white iPhone casts shadows that make it look like it was installed whilst wearing a blindfold" issues :)

I don't see where I have? Maybe you posted the wrong link to some long-lost memory of mine? I've never scratched an iPhone that I can recall, and certainly not like this.

Agreed your issue sounds unique. I used mine uncovered for a couple days and it wasn't anything like you describe. Hope you can get it swapped. Don't think they are all like that.

I was just being a punk with the link. Not you specifically in that thread.

Just that arguments over phones having no micro-scratches after extended use uncovered is moot. They all do.

Whether the owner notices or cares is another matter entirely.

That protector is not perfectly aligned at all, but also a reason why I prefer the edge to edge ones, as you can barely tell they are on, as opposed to that look. To each their own though.

It's perfectly aligned within the constraints of a bad screen protector. That's why I've ordered an edge to edge now.

I've had my iPhone since launch and I still have no micro scratches or any scratches for that matter. Can't say the same for my 6 plus. But I literally baby my phone and don't mix my iPhone with keys and/or coins.

I also would be careful with what you clean your phone with. Liquid and cloth. I use a tad bit of windex and a cloth and it's spotless!!

Don't the edge to edge ones peel up and collect dust under the edges? The i4 and i5 design with completely flat screens was much better for the screen protector crowd.

Yeah something is seriously wrong with my 6s Plus. I can clean it with a microfiber and even the microfiber is scratching the hell out of the phone, whereas my 6 Plus can be cleaned without issue.

I'll have Apple deal with it. This issue, the pressure-point issue, the freezing up in my pocket issue/during the night issue (with the burning hot Home button) etc. Not impressed right now..

Shame, because aside from this it's the best iPhone I've ever owned, lol.
Good grief, your iPhone is a hot mess. Take it back!

I haven't used a screen protector since they put retina screens on iPhones. I was using wallet cases so there seemed no point. But this time I wanted to use a clear case for awhile so I decided to try a Spigen Crystal PET film screen protector and I've been really pleased. I can't see it unless I look for the edges and I can't feel it. It doesn't affect the look of the display at all. I was going to get tempered glass and this was just going to be a cheap solution until I figured out which tempered glass one I wanted. But since I decided to return to using a folio case anyway, PET film will suffice for scratch protection. I'm too pleased to remove my current one anytime soon.

Had my 6S+ now since day one. No screen protector, just a case with some lip. No scratches whatsoever, not even micro scratches. I don't put it in a pocket with anything else, and I don't lay it face down on a table with any kind of uneven surface. I also wipe down the screen with a microfiber cloth once a day or every other day.

Let me preface this by saying I have never scratched an iPhone screen before.

However, it's a sunny day here in Seattle, and out in the sun it's quite obvious my new 6s Plus is covered in micro scratches (those thin, hairlines ones). It's appalling. They're everywhere, covering the entire screen. I grabbed my year-old 6 Plus and the screen has zero micro scratches anywhere.

Is this new 6s Plus cover glass stronger at the expense of scratch resistance? I'm still very taken aback by how bad my 6s Plus looks. Sure, I don't spend a lot of time in the sun, but boy does it look bad, especially with the screen off.

Get yourself a glasses protector. You buy the most expensive popular phone, why not spend little bit money to protect it.

My 6 Plus is a launch day phone. Never had a screen protector on. It has been either in an Apple case or nude for the whole year. A few dings on the corners from falls without the case on, but not a single flaw on the screen. Same for my iPad Air 2 with no case, skin or protector. I carry it in a Logitech keyboard case, but frequently take it out when I am just "consuming" content and not typing at all.

I usually always get some micro scratches on my screens no matter how careful I am and I'm super careful. Usually it's due to getting my phones at launch and no good screen protectors available. So I wait a few weeks and lo and behold there are micro scratches but they cover up nicely with a glass screen protector. This time around I already had a couple spare screen protectors hanging around. I tried the Daswise glass as they were cheap and recommended on MacRumors. I could not get a good install and also found them thicker than my usual and favorite which is the Benks ultra thin edge to edge

at .2. It is really paper thin and installs really well. I had one on for 10 months on my 6 plus and no chips in the edge. Nice feel and great oleophobic coating. So I'm sitting good now with my Benks on - Love the Benks.

I'll add to this being an issue. This is the same post I made to another thread over in Apple's Support Discussions...

Yep. I'm on my second 6S now. After about ten days of normal use, I noticed very fine scratches in the center, about an inch from the top. I've owned the 3GS, 4S, and 5S before the first 6S I returned. None of my previous iPhones scratched like this so soon, or at all over two years, without screen protectors. So, I took it into the store last Thursday, and the two reps that helped me had one look, and kicked me a second 6S, no questions asked. Both said "that's not right". Well guess what? Five days later, and this second 6S has a couple scratches now, too. One near the top left corner. One in the center, an inch above the home button. This one, like the first, has only been in cotton lined pockets (always by itself), or face-up on tables, or in my hands. Being that I've been extra conscious of this second one, I know I've done nothing to abuse the screen. Zero carelessness here.

So, now what? Get a protector for the third that will be in my hand in a couple days? F that. They don't feel the same, and are prone to peeling up at the edges. And, according to Apple, and Apple reps themselves, protectors "aren't necessary" (see any Apple brand protectors? ya don't).

What ever glass / glass/coating they're using now, since the 5S, it's either not as durable against fine scratches, or this first batch is simply defective. But, researching iPhone 6 stories from about a year ago today say otherwise to this being a batch defect issue.

Have a close look at your 6/6S/6+/6S+'. I'm sure you've got these scratches going on, too...

Just for documentation sake...

Return Process
The first phone was handled as a full return. It was purchased under Apple's new upgrade program, as was the second/replacement phone. The credit check was ran all over again, and a new first payment was made (the first payment for the first phone is to be credited). The second phone was handled as an entirely new purchase (not an exchange), and came packaged in regular retail packaging.

I'll be returning this second phone this Thursday, and am considering going back to my 5S instead of acquiring a third 6S. $850 devices with touch screens should NOT mar this easily...

I just looked at my phone day one 6S+ under 4 different lights from every angle I could muster and there is not a single scratch of any kind to be found. You're either having bad luck and getting defective coatings, or you're doing something wrong. This is not a widespread issue whatsoever.

None the less, it's a legitimate issue for some. Poor or improper handling is not what's going on here (for me, at least). Fortunately Apple Store CS has been on point in dealing with it. Good luck...

...and to follow up, I've now received my third 6S. Again, I was told the scratches "should not have happened". I've thrown a screen protector on this third one. Anyways....

If you've got hairline scratches in Apple's "most durable glass yet", most certainly, take that **** back, and have 'em send it back up the supply chain. Apple strives for engineering perfection. You, as Apple product consumers, should expect nothing less, yourselves.

You realize its scratches in the coating and not the glass? Either way, if micro scratches bother you a screen protector is a must, if they don't, no need.

I do. Either way, my 3GS, 4S, and 5S, without screen protectors, fared batter over two-year-periods than my #1 and #2 6S' did in less than two weeks time. I don't care if it's the glass or the oleophobic layer. This is a sporadic manufacturing flaw, and I have no problem attempting to be "completely satisfied" within my 14 day return period(s).

As for this screen protector: It, of course, diminishes the user experience. From feeling the protectors edges, to picking up oils from finger tips, to altering the phone's general aesthetic. But, it will lay on this 6S until the 7, and I'll hope the screen perimeter between the case and protector doesn't look like **** a year from now enough to affect resale value.

I've had my 6s for three weeks with no screen protector and it is flawless right now. I keep it in a soft pouch at all times except when actually using it, so the screen literally never touches anything but my finger or the micro fiber inside that pouch. I assume in my case I will never need a screen protector.

I have a screen protector on my 6s Plus. My wife has several micro scratches on her 6s Plus. She doesn't have a screen protector. She had a 6 for a year without a screen protector and only had one small scratch.

^this^

It all boils down to inconsistencies in manufacturing caused by Apple trying to satisfy demand in a swift manner, as opposed to putting quality first. I, for one, would rather be put on a weeks long waiting list while knowing that the several hundred dollar device I'll be purchasing will be thoroughly legit. Don't let half-ass be a part of the equation. #postjobsapple
