Does anyone know why it first started happening upon updating to ios10? Or did others have the problem with ios9? I know I didn't.

First happened to me with my 5S a couple of years ago while running in very cold weather. Died on me in fog up on a mountain. Not ideal. Was 40%.

That's somewhat different and basically related to the cold temperature.

I haven't read very page but mine started doing this in the last couple of weeks. Switching off between 10-20% but in the last few days now does it anywhere between 40-55%. Temperature has nothing to do with it, as it mostly seems to do it when I'm at home. I can tell when it's about to happen as I'll open an app or try to do something and the phone locks up briefly, then the screen goes black.

I spoke to Apple online and they said it falls within the date range for affected models and to take it to a store.

It seems that replacing my Battery (by myself) PLUS updating to 10.2b4 finally fixed my shutdown problems.
Prior to 10.2b4 the 6s shutdown just above 10% regardless of the new battery. Now i am at 2% battery and 5h usetime according to battery stats (settings app)

10.2b4 is on public beta. Check it out guys!

Edit: the 6s ran all the way down to 1%, then turned off with 10.2b4 for the first time since ages...

My issue with the 6S seems related to cold weather and my phone is one of those in the battery replacement scheme. I would have done the replacement today but when I phoned the store ( Covent Garden ) they said no batteries in stock until next week at earliest.

Main thing is to get it fixed before heading up any ski slopes in the New Year ;-)

Where you buy your battery?

my wife and I got iPhone 6S'es on day 1. Her 6S had a flakey battery after only 4-5 months of usage, and we managed to replace it under the warranty. Now it is working just fine. My phone,on the other hand, is loosing the battery capacity like crazy and the last 20% tend to last me just 30 minutes if that.

to put things into perspective, this is the info from coconutBattery:

my wife iPhone 6S - 84% (1442mAh) - 359 load cycles
my daughter iPhone 6 - 87% (1582 mAh) - 487 load cycles
my iPhone 6S - 77% (1324 mAh) - only 312 load cycles

so my iPhone has the worse battery with the least load cycles. I will be contacting Apple to see if they can rectify this issue someway.

I can categorically say that Apple will not care about any battery benchmark app result. It's better to just say that your phone dies too soon.

Got my replacement phone yesterday through AppleCare. Serial says its 22 days old (I guess refurb tho but dont care) and it's got a TSMC chip (old one had a Samsung). Quite happy.

but apple support told me that only 6s are affected not the plus models.
In the UK at least, the plus isn't officially covered, but...

I booked an appointment at Regent Street with my 6S Plus (bought on launch day so certainly in the time frame for build problems) that's been shutting down at c30-40%. The chap said the Plus wasn't covered, but due to the numbers of people coming in with with pluses he said he anticipated them to do a recall on them as well, but couldn't/wouldn't confirm.

I asked that given my handset was over a year old and out off warranty, where that left me. He said that because I bought it from an Apple store I was covered under consumer law. He said he could do some diagnostics and if there were battery issues identified he would replace the handset free of charge.

He hooked my iPhone up to the store wifi and then started a diagnosis process on my phone that gave results on his iPad. The results showed lots of unexpected shutdowns and battery problems. Without quibble he called a runner to get a replacement handset.

So there is certainly a process in place for us Plus customers experiencing the same problems. :)

ill wait and see, to be honest mine hasn't shut down at 30-40 ever, worst was 15% couple of times less than 10, I've always put it down to beta software. If it starts happening, or the plus is recalled too then ill take it in. took me 5 attempts to get one with a decent screen!

I have an iPhone 6S that does fall in this range, serial number confirmed. I went to Apple for this issue in March and they assured me it was a software issue, not hardware, and recommended I restored it as a new phone. It didn't help.

My phone would die at 20%, but also die at as high as 50% if I was using it outside, at or below 40 degrees farenheight, ridiculous.

I confidently went to Apple today to finally be able to get my battery changed but they REFUSED. A "Genius" ran several diagnostics on my phone and said my battery was in the healthy range and he could not replace it, despite my serial number falling in the effected range. He insisted it was a software issue and told me to restore it as a new phone. I was IRATE to say the least.

How should I proceed?

Contact Apple Via Phone, ask to speak to a Sr Advisor or someone in Customer Relations, and let them know that even with the program recently announced, your local Apple store wasted your time, and refused to replace the battery.

Anyone has the same issue with iPhone 6? I have two set having the suddenly drop of battery and occasionally shutdown due to the sudden drop to less than 30 or 20%

Similar to what the guy who helped me said. He said because it didn't fail and was in the green zone that I would have to pay for it. I said my phone is eligible for the replacement. He said well I can override that and replace the battery, but we have no batteries in stock.

I contacted Apple through chat and told them what he said. They said no worries I was covered because mine was in the range of serial numbers affected. I'm sending mine in to Apple on my Christmas break where I can be without it a few days.

Seems like very poor customer service . I have an appointment booked for tomorrow but been told by Apple on chat that batteries can't be replaced until after the 5th so I now have to reschedule and the trip for me to an Apple Store is expensive. First time for me having an Apple product and feel quite let down .

Why do you feel let down? They've run out of batteries, that's hardly anything to be upset about.

Agreed. I would go directly to customer relations, being the Store staff is limited In knowledge and they don't always recommend the most appropriate avenues.
