WOW. Turns out my wife and I have same phone, one runs hot and has been more laggy. I bet this is the reason. How do I find out which chip we have? Will definitely return one. Why Apple would do this is beyond me.
Oh boy...this opens up a can of worms...

Don't know if anybody else on here has read about this yet. I'm sure it will be kind of a controversy just like the Toshiba and Samsung SSDs in MacBooks; or the LG/Samsung displays. I'd be curious to know if it is possible to find out what manufacturer made the chip in my phone and any of the other component makers. Little stuff like that is neat to find out, in my opinion.
What a modern logo tsmc have, hope i have one of their chips in my phone
Ah yes, the eternal debate about size vs. efficiency. Where have I heard this before... heeheeSoon we are going to see threads about people asking what size their A9 is or if they get a better battery life because of smaller A9.
Listen, I've got a laggy 6s, and I was chalking it up to 9.0.1. I definitely will see if 9.1 helps. But the stuttering is real. Something tells me it has zero to do with which chip you have, though.no

please stop the dumbness.
You didn't see that it said:
It is not "yet" clear (yay MR added a word to their favorite beginning of a sentence.)
long time lurker.
funny to see the people who bch about samsung do a 180 and play the apple lottery when they find out the samsung chip is better.
Seriously? That many people read MacRumors or other tech sites and will be concerned about this? Jeezus people just enjoy your devices and stop looking for problems!

Oh for crying out loud, this is going to drive the picky people crazy. I will state for the record I do not give a flying fig, pig or poo which of the two manufacturers made my chip. So far my IPhone runs great and it's my favorite iPhone since my beloved iPhone 4. Well done to whomever made the chip that's in it.
No I rreeeeaaallllllllllyyyyy doubt you'd ever notice anything between the two. Your problem is probably unrelated and most likely caused by something in the backup you restored, meaning it's a software issue and a clean restore without the backup would fix it.WOW. Only the 1% of the customer base that lurks on forums and obsesses over tiny manufacturing differences.this is just asking for a problem. soon people will only want one or the other

You could not be more wrong. They mentioned one is made by a 16nm process other is 14nm. The smaller the process the better. The 14nm chip would run cooler, use less battery and even run faster. 12.5% smaller is not insignificant.Agreed. The difference in geometry means nothing about performance or battery life.
Unless you know exact process parameters, memory efficiency, etc. You know nothing.
This is a non-story unless you are really interested in silicon production.
The rest simply have no idea what the size of the manufacturing process means in the real world.Only the 1% of the customer base that lurks on forums and obsesses over tiny manufacturing differences.
They could have entirely different specifications, and most people wouldn't care, as long as they work.
