I think that latest report about force touch in the next iPhone is premature. I'm sure that's whe the technology is heading, but it's probably too soon. I doubt they'll change the casing. Didn't Apple buy a sapphire plant? Not the one that went bankrupt. After seeing what the watch does with sapphire, I'm sure they'll want it on everything if they can cheaply produce it.

The S means
iPhone 6(Sorry we didn't give this to you first this is what the 6 should have been)
iPhone 6(Samsung just did a better job than us)
iPhone 6(Suck on that sheep the phones we give you are ******)
iPhone 6(******** than a lot of the phones out there)

S stands for Samsung. New features added in S model always get copied by Samsung.

Not true, in fact the correct spell is "3Gs, 4S, 5s" the second "S" being the only uppercase (Siri).

When apple released the 5s, it changed to 4s.

The "s" stood for "speed" in 3Gs. I don't think the rest actually stood for anything. It's just a naming convention. It's not like the people at Apple are sitting around thinking specifically about what feature they can add that starts with "s".

Did they actually stand for this?

I don't think it was officially stated that is what they stood for.

It's always been speed. Never meant anything else.

With the 4S wasn't it rumored that the S was supposed to stand for "Steve"? As in 4 Steve.... Ala.... For Steve

Nope, they did not

I think back in the day when the 3GS was rolled out, it stood for speed, after that, it was just a differentiator, that is, it really didn't mean anything.

All it has ever stood for.

Except for when Cook said that the S stood for Siri in the 4S... ;)

Finding the actual quote about it it seems like that's what they were thinking about when they added the 'S', but not necessarily what it officially stands for as it wasn't even mentioned anywhere at all (unlike the 3GS case when they at least mentioned it as part of the announcement). So perhaps it's more appropriate to refer to it all as things that Apple thinks of when it comes to 'S' that is added, and not so much what they "officially" stand for (since for the most part, at least officially speaking, they are just simply part of the name without anything specifically, again officially speaking, attached to them).

amazed

I honestly never knew that 'S' actually stood for anything. To confirm, I checked online and the 4S and 5S actually meant different things. I am curious to what iPhone 6S will stand for.

iPhone 3GS (Speed)
iPhone 4S (Siri)
iPhone 5S (Security)
iPhone 6S (?)

Apple did it right the first time so they are going to offer the same iphone 6/6plus this September and people will buy it.

That said the S is plural. They'll own iPhone 6'S

ZING!

I think Apple will wait with force touch until the sales are decreasing, Force Touch will make ft-apps, so all old iPhones will become useless and people will be forced to buy an iPhone with Force Touch.

Did they actually stand for this?
First two were official.
S for Speed
S for Siri

“You can stick with the name and people generally love that, or you can put a number at the end which denotes the generation,” said Cook. “And if you keep the same industrial design, as in the case of the 4S, some people might say it stands for Siri or speed. We were thinking of Siri when we did it. For the 3GS we were thinking of speed.”

S for Security, not official. But likely and conveniently fits.

Probably the 6S will get OIS since Samsung can stuck that into their regular S6.

An upgrade in RAM size to 2G (LPDDR4) would definitely appeal the geeks like me.
