After reading about the iPhone 6 trade in offer, I decided to go for it and put my order in early this evening, around 5:15pm CST. Apple.com showed the delivery date slipping for the 128 iPhone 7 in black (matte), but AT&T showed a 9/16 delivery date. I was on the fence with the iPhone 7 due to the removal of the audio jack. As it is, I'm not thrilled about having to keep an adapter with me all the time. But this offer is at least 2x the amount I could get for by selling my iPhone 6 elsewhere.

My order status now says Preparing for Shipment with 9/16 delivery date.
Hopefully all goes well.
Just keep it plugged into the headphones you have and leave it in.

[doublepost=1473492864][/doublepost]Did anyone who ordered a 7+ 256gb black (not jet black) get a ship date of 9/16? If so, when did you order it (include time zone)?

Whyyyyyyyyy!

Sup guys! Was on the Mac about 30 mins before pre-order. Got in around 11:55 AM and ordered a 128 Jet Black 7. When I got through the first page I remember it shipping between September 13 and the 21st. But after completing the order, it said October 14, 2016 - October 21, 2016. My best guess is the AT&T systems became confused from the mass amount of traffic. I'm confident that I will receive the 7 on the 16th. Been on the 5X and ready for the 7!

So those of us who have preparing to ship - there really isn't anything else to look for before the shipment notification correct?

iPhone 7 Plus Jet Black 256GB

!
Really??! 2:41am?? I was on the app from 2:30 on tapping it. And reloading and it didn't go live until 2:51.. Exactly like last year. Having trouble believing the 2:41.

On app? Or computer browser?

Ordered 2 iPhone 7 Plus 128GBs the second orders went live. Mine was Matte Black and my mom wanted Rose Gold. She got a "delivery by date" of September 16th. I got an "estimated shipping date" of September 23rd through the 30th.

Seems like Black and Jet black, regardless of order time, had a default shipping time frame of 2-3 weeks. Even longer for Jet black.

So those of us who have preparing to ship - there really isn't anything else to look for before the shipment notification correct?

AT&T will update your order status page way before they send you a shipping update email. Also I've had them ship the phones days before they updated the order page. Typically, they under promise and over deliver on shipping time frames to avoid any false expectations. Most people who ordered yesterday will get their phones on Friday, regardless of what their shipping window says (unless you ordered Jet Black).

I don't believe there is any other status besides shipped once you are at preparing to ship. And as has been stated, it may actually ship before your status changes to shipped.

Thats a really good question. I ordered 7 JB 128g with ship dates of Oct 14-21. It says preparing for shipment. The consensus on the forum is that most people will get their stuff early if the past is any indication. But preparing for shipment a month out? That feels like its too far off.

I also believe most Jet Black 128GB 7Plus with as late as Oct13-20 shipping dates ordered before 12:10 PDT or so will arrive on Friday as well if previous year precedent follows. In 2014 the Gold 64bit 6Plus (or any 6Plus for that matter) was the hot item.. I only remember a few reports, back in the PreOrder thread that year, where they didn't get their 6Plus on launch day after having had distant shipping dates.. Then same thing with the hot RoseGold 64bit 6SPlus last year.. October shipping dates - almost all came launch day. So in 2014 with 1-week turnaround til launch day or last year with 2-week turnaround.. same result..

You see - AT&T actually NEVER has ANY stock of the most popular anticipated iPhone in a given year. Apple holds it back on purpose to control supply. This is why NO ONE got a 9/16 ship date for JetBlack 128GB 7+ on PreOrder night. It's because AT&T has ZERO units in stock as of pre order night. ZERO! :)..

This week Apple will start releasing stock to Carriers.. And that's when you'll start seeing your ship dates change. Last year we didn't see ship dates start changing until Wednesday or Thursday of launch week. And with no rhyme or reason to the time stamp on your order. People who ordered rose gold 64 Plus at 1 hour after pre order went live got their shipping dates moved up prior to people who ordered at 7 minutes before scheduled live opening on pre order night.. But ALL (but a few) got their RoseGold 64GB 6SPlus' on launch day.. :)

So as I've been saying for the last two years… Breathe… if you pre-ordered within the first 30 minutes of AT&T app or online store going live… your JetBlack 128GB 7Plus will be there on launch day. ;-) Apple's not going to send AT&T "zero" units.

There isn't an issue with your order... it won't change to "preparing to ship" until about a week before it ships. This is why everyone with the 9/23-9/30 window with the "preparing to ship" status believe they will get theirs on launch.

I think it's a combination of things. One being under promising as said as someone said above; so that no one gets a 9/16 date and is pissed when it doesnt come. Rather they said 9/23 to a TON of orders, and if your phone shows up 9/16 or 9/19 that Monday you say wow that was fast. Apple looks good that way.

The other being logistics. Some phones are in the US already we know that for sure. Some are still coming over from China in the next week and beyond still.

They may not want to promise a date when shipping from oversees. Things can happens. The stock of phones in the US already are probably the majority of the 9/16 dates people got. They're local and they know they have x many of each of those here. More are coming every day from China though.

As someone said above, I have seen VERY few black and jet black 9/16 dates overall. It may also be supply control by Apple too since black was going to be the most popular color. So they again overestimated the ship dates.

They are "preparing for shipping" in terms of shipping over from China; not in terms of to our houses a week early obviously. The phones can come right from China to your door, they dont have to be stockpiled like the early stock they have. That's why my gut is most of the 9/23 dates will come next Friday or that Monday after the 19th direct from China as people will start getting tracking early to mid week showing originating in China.

Is there an echo in here? Lol.. I believe I just said that..

I told myself I wasn't going to upgrade right away. I then got an email saying the line I let my brother use (iphone 6) was available for an upgrade. I'm weak. This is the first time I've ordered through at&t rather then apple so hopefully everything goes smoothly.

Rose Gold 7 Plus 128GB
shipping date: 10/07/2016 to 10/14/2016

This works out great because I will be out of the country until the 7th. I haven't done this before but I'm hoping when the phone comes I can just put the sim from my 6s plus into the new phone before turning it on so my brother's phone doesn't get deactivated.

I wasn't going to upgrade right away either, but then AT&T stepped up with this promo.

I just did an online chat, and through this upgrade I'm going to save $60 a month on my bill.

Currently pay around $180 for 2 lines. I had the rep do the math for me, and with trade-in credits, my bill with be around $125! That's a pretty significant savings -- for new phones! And if I get on the 12 month upgrade track, bill will be around $145 -- which is still a great savings.

Will go into a store later today to actually handle the transaction.

Yep.. Real important to take SIM out of new phone and put yours in before turning new phone on.

I've been used to sharing upgrades for years and years… My wife never wants a new phone so every other year on 2 yr contract I would just use her phone since it was always out of contract on the odd years, mine on the even years.

I think one year (maybe the 5S) in the activation window it said "do you want to activate this phone to xxx-xxx-xxxx phone number"… I think I had to say no and then it just looked for my SIM I'd put in. But I think since the iPhone 6 the phone doesn't come ready to activate to the number of the upgraded line. Anyone know for sure?

The most likely scenario here is that Apple oversold the 7+'s and informed ATT their shipment would be smaller.

nah i just don't see that. They know from the last 2 years Pluses were 30 to 40% (somewhere in that range) of iphone sales. They know based on prior years the typical ratios. and how many preorders they get.

Their logistics are ridiculous on the back end. That's how they get the estimated shipping dates and why they fall back after x number of units of that model/capacity are sold.

Obviously its impossible to 100% predict demand, but i think the most likely scenario is very conservative dates if past years are an indicator. Shipping dates typically moved forward as more were produced in China; and they only take about 2 days to get to the US.

If they say 9/23 to 9/30 and they arrive the 16th or Monday the 19th Apple looks like heroes to people. The eye test. Rather than promising the 16th and they arrive late coming from China; since there are only a limited number already in the US.

Also do remember thousands of people place orders (or multiple orders from different places) and then cancel freeing up those allocations too.

I ordered iPhone 7 Silver 128gb at 4:45am EST and it says delivery by Sept 16th. It started selling at 3:00 am EST and my alarm didn't get me up but it still seemed to work out so I get it by Friday.

Does anyone know if I can switch over to the 12 month upgrade from the 24 month?

I ended up ordering through Apple, rushing through all of the prompts and clicked 24. Now that I think about it, 12 would've been better.

Nope. This isn't the case at all. It's as I described. I have a good friend IN the AT&T order fulfillment area - and he described exactly as I shared.. Apple ships ZERO of the popular phones to them prior to preorder.. That's why we'll NEVER see a Launch Day Shipping date with ATT app/online for the most popular phone on PreOrder night.. no matter how early we get our order in.

Thanks for giving me hope! Even if it doesn't end up happening, it's fun to have hope for now.

I feel like they would let you, especially because you haven't technically started paying for it yet. Best route is probably talking to an AT&T rep.

The SIMs between the 6 series iPhone and the 7s are not compatible as I've come to understand...
