I just got home with my 7+ 128 gb, Batman Black (matte black).
I want to post this because although the information is somewhere in this thread, I want to keep it relevant for those still waiting.
I pre-ordered a 7+ 128gb Matte Black via the AT&T website on 9/9 and my order went through at 3:03am EST.
As with many of us, until this morning at 10:21am EST when I cancelled my pre-order, my status was
Preparing to Ship with estimated ship dates of
9/23-9/30.
Last night at 12:03am EST I went to
https://reserve.cdn-apple.com/US/en...1&sourceID=email&rv=0&path=&iPP=U&appleCare=Y and found that there was a 7+ 128gb MB at a local Apple store (I'm located in Southern NJ between Philadelphia and the coast), so I reserved it for a 10:00-10:30am pickup time this morning.
When I arrived at the Apple store and checked in with the greeter, I very briefly explained to him the situation with some pre-orders via AT&T and said that I would be cancelling my pre-order once I saw the phone I reserved in the Apple store employees hands. I had no doubts, but he assured me that my phone was there.
I then checked my order status (one last time) via the myAT&T app and also via *6737#, both resulted in that my order was
Preparing to Ship (the same status I've had for the past 8 days). I then logged back into the myAT&T app and cancelled my order. Note: when you first hit cancel, it will take you to a screen and at the top in a yellow box states: "This cancels your entire order. Call us 877.782.8870, or visit an AT&T store to cancel single items in this order." This is important if you have more than one thing on order, I just had one item, the phone, so the message wasn't applicable to me. If you scroll down on that screen there is a pull-down menu that you can select a reason (optional) for your cancellation. I chose (I found a better offer), but there is an option of (my order took too long). Then they ask you again if you want to cancel your order and you select yes. They will send you a confirmation email as well as confirm on the screen that your order is being cancelled. I got the email from AT&T about 6 minutes later that my order was cancelled.
I would like to note that having read these types of posts on this thread helped me out significantly! I knew what to expect and how everything worked.
When the apple employee came out with my phone I told her first thing that I recently had a pre-order from AT&T that I just cancelled and that I would like to acquire the new phone using AT&T Next not the Apple Update program. She went through the options (AT&T Next 30 months or 24 months) and also when it came time to select a data plan, it turns out there is a plan that offers
1 more gb of data and is $10 less than what my current plan is. Naturally I selected the new option and she explained that AT&T does not go out of their way to offer this information (which makes sense business-wise because they would lose out money). My old phone was deactivated and my new one is activated (but still wrapped in the box because I wanted to set it up at home (they give you the option to do it at the store).
She also asked me if I wanted to turn in my old phone for the credit, which looking back might have been a good option; however, I have read some things here of people saying the legal fine print is suspect. I declined because I had already accepted an offer of $185.00 from a phone buyback service (the offer expires tomorrow, 9/20 which is partly why I went and got my phone at the Apple store). I am very meticulous when it comes to caring for my things, especially electronics, so my iPhone 6 is in great shape.
Lastly, I want to say that even though my estimated shipping dates were 9/23-9/30 I had a strong gut feeling that there is an issue with certain orders (not sure a rhyme or reason) and that come 9/30 I still wouldn't have my phone. IMO that AT&T intended to use FIFO, but something went awry in their system and some orders got FUBAR'd. Also, I do understand that AT&T is waiting on a shipment from Apple and then has to sort through things to send the phones to those who pre-ordered, which takes time, but the lack of communication from AT&T and many people who ordered much later than myself (and others) receiving their phones and/or notifications is a big red flag to me.
If you have an Apple store nearby (the closest one to me with my phone is 20 miles away)
At 12:02 tonight (keep refreshing until your state is not greyed out in the menu) check the link in my post and reserve a phone (if they have what you want) at your closest Apple store.
Do NOT cancel your order until you are at the Apple store and know 100% that your phone is there and that you will be able to receive it today.
