So I just reserved a Plus in an Apple store but had a question. I have a new account with AT&T that currently has my wife's phone on it. I'd like to go to the store and buy a new Plus to add to that account. Will I be able to do the Apple Upgrade Program without having that line of service open at the time of the transaction? I'll need to add the phone to the plan after I get the IMEI #. Has anyone ever done this? Will I have to buy it outright?

Just got this funny text message...oh AT&T :)

I ordered the 7+ 256gb JB on 9/9 7:36AM EST and was given delivery date of 9/30-10/7 Checked status via text and it's still PFS - which has been like this since the 9th.. No change.. sad face. My sister and Dad were able to pick up a 7+ MB in 128GB and 256GB on Sunday at our local Apple store.. I feel so left out.

You will need an AT&T account at the time of purchase (even if it is via the upgrade program). You either need to open a new account or need to add the line to an existing account. From what I read .. Apple, at this moment, is not selling phones that are not tied to a carrier, even though these phones are unlocked.

I've heard gossip that Apple will start selling phones outright (without a carrier) 1 month after launch. It is a bit odd though that they have allocations in terms of quantity of phones for each carrier when they reserve in store shipment. You would figure it would be first-come first-serve situation.. *shrugs*

My wife's account is the one I'd be adding a line to. I guess my question is do I need to buy the phone then add it separately or can it be added as a part of the upgrade program transaction? I do want to add a line to the account and I'm an authorized user.

I see very few people in this thread waiting on a 7+ JetBlack 256gb like me. Gives me hope that my line is shorter. Feel free to disappoint me with proof saying otherwise.

I'm right there with you. I got my order in on 9/9 @ 3:00:24 est and I will literally be one of the last to receive my phone.

Yes they do sell after some time. They wait for the shipping estimates to streamline before they sell phones without a carrier.

Somewhat of an update!

Ordered:
9/9 at 11:20am EST.
128 GB 7+ Matte Black

Been on preparing shipment since I ordered. The text never works for me (always says "we are unavibale to find your order" or whatever) and when I call, it says it's being processed in the warehouse. Called this morning and it said one or more of my items aren't in stock. Hoping that's another way to say backordered!

I'm pretty sure they will assist you in adding a new line for you :) I'm curious if they will offer you the AT&T Next payment options or they will ONLY provide you with the Apple Upgrade Program..

After going with my family to pick up their MBs - I was wishing that I had done the Apple Upgrade Program because it's so much more straightforward. Upgrade every year with Apple Pro Care without having to extend your carrier service agreement.

Yes you can add the line to your wife's account as part of the upgrade program. But I am not sure if AT&T allows authorized users to add a new line (yet). I remember they said they were going to allow in future (do not remember the date).
