Somewhat of an update!

Ordered:
9/9 at 11:20am EST.
128 GB 7+ Matte Black

Been on preparing shipment since I ordered. The text never works for me (always says "we are unavibale to find your order" or whatever) and when I call, it says it's being processed in the warehouse. Called this morning and it said one or more of my items aren't in stock. Hoping that's another way to say backordered!
Same phone same problem no updates via any system

I've heard gossip that Apple will start selling phones outright (without a carrier) 1 month after launch. It is a bit odd though that they have allocations in terms of quantity of phones for each carrier when they reserve in store shipment. You would figure it would be first-come first-serve situation.. *shrugs*

It's to stop people from buying them in bulk and exporting them back to China for a huge profit. It has been a problem every year and they are finally done by something about it.

Funny story from yesterday. Went to the AT&T store with my stepdad. He was looking into getting UVerse at his house and I decided to go with to get a case for my Jet Black 128 Unicorn while we were there. The whole time, he was like "Why are you getting a case for a phone you aren't even gonna see until June?!" And we had the guy helping us believing that I'm seriously not getting my phone until next year. Then as we were getting ready to leave I was like "No, we were just messing with you. My shipping dates are next month (10/14-10/21) but that's ridiculous that these phones are taking so long. I didn't feel like going up there and being mean since really they couldn't do anything about it.

At least you didnt waste a lunch hour from work going to the Mall of America ATT store and just "thought" you might get lucky and have them say "why, yes, we just got some in!".....they were like "none in the state of MN" .........HAHAHAHA........ sigh. o_O

Another update:

- 2 IP7+ BLK 256GB
- Ordered 9/9 8:30am/12:30pm ET
- Been Preparing to Ship since 9/9; then this morning, all status requests except web site now state backordered
- Atlanta, GA metro

Do not -- I repeat, do not -- try to call anyone up at any telephone number to ask why there is an inconsistency between what you might see on your screen (web status shows "Preparing to Ship") versus what the outgoing messages are saying ("Backordered"). They do not know at all.

The only thing I know, based on this thread, is that allegedly such orders get shipped within a day or two after some status message somewhere states "backordered."

This needs corrected by AT&T. Each CSR "looked" at me like I had two heads. They couldn't understand (even after speaking with supervisors) why the inconsistency, nor able to confirm that what I've read on this forum is correct (after all, this is here say, and not official until someone from AT&T (and verified as such) can confirm). In fact, one tried to get me to understand that my order had always been backordered, in spite of the fact that I told them that about 12 hours ago (this morning), the message changed, and that I had been Preparing to Ship across all statuses since 9/9.

I'll simply trust in the crowd-sourced knowledge of this thread until the evidence says otherwise.

My order just went into back order status for my black 7+ 128GB iPhone. Ordered at 9:54 am EST on 9/9. The ship dates are 9/23-9/30.

I hope this means it's shipping soon!

I'm pretty sure they will assist you in adding a new line for you :) I'm curious if they will offer you the AT&T Next payment options or they will ONLY provide you with the Apple Upgrade Program..

After going with my family to pick up their MBs - I was wishing that I had done the Apple Upgrade Program because it's so much more straightforward. Upgrade every year with Apple Pro Care without having to extend your carrier service agreement.

Here's hoping! I'm driving up to a store at lunch that's about 30 minutes away.

Yes you can add the line to your wife's account as part of the upgrade program. But I am not sure if AT&T allows authorized users to add a new line (yet). I remember they said they were going to allow in future (do not remember the date).

If nothing else I could probably log into AT&T's website in the store and add the device once I had it in hand with the IMEI #. I have the log in and would just use bring your own device.

saw a great post earlier...can't find it now, but basically stated that Tuesday was wave 1 and was going to be 128GB 7+ shipping day, Wednesday, wave 2, was going to be 256GB 7+ shipping day, and today, wave 3, was going to be a Jet Black day. This was reported to someone here on the forum from an ATT rep (that actually knew what they were talking about?!) before these shipping waves started. So far they have been spot on, let's hope they are right about wave 3 and the JB's start shipping out today!

Yes that post was by @Ronnoco :)

My order just went into back order status for my black 7+ 128GB iPhone. Ordered at 9:54 am EST on 9/9. The ship dates are 9/23-9/30.

As I just posted, we are in the same boat.

Now, save yourself a ton of time and do *NOT* call up AT&T about this (unless your web status page actually shows "Backordered"), because they do not know there's an inconsistency across status messages.

Ordered 9/9 at 11:10amEST. 7+ MB 256gb. Woke up to a status change at 5am from preparing to ship to backorder only on the *6737#. Original shipping window 9/23-9/30. Been reading this forum since 9/9 and this is the first twinge of excitement I've had. Location Kentucky

So I've been quietly following this thread. I just wanted to share my pre-ordering experience. I ordered 3 iPhone 7 +. The first was a 7 Plus 256GB Gold, ordered at 3:23AM on 9/9 and the ship date was 9/23-9/30. That was went to back order yesterday evening and was shipped out by FedEx this morning. The second 7 Plus was 128GB Rose Gold, ordered at 3:32AM on 9/9 and the ship date was 9/16. On 9/14 it went to back order and shipped on 9/15 by FedEx and received on launch day. The third iPhone was 7 Plus 128GB matte black that I pre ordered in store at 12:31PM. That one went to back order on 9/18 and shipped out on 9/19. Strange thing was this was the only one sent via UPS and it was 2day, but I received it yesterday. Just wanted to add my two cents. Hope everyone gets their iPhones soon.

I get a test msg a few mins ago from ATT that says, basically, we know we sent you a msg about your order yesterday, but you ship date is still the same.

:-(

"AT&T Free Msg: We recently sent you a message that your new iPhone was on its way. Your original ship date has not changed. Go to att.com/checkstatus for info on your order and ship date. Your message was intended as a reminder that you can receive up to $650 in monthly credits toward your new phone when you trade in an eligible iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S or iPhone 6S Plus. Go to att.com/tradeinoffer for details and special trade instructions."

Interesting. Yours is now an updated message of the same verbiage that was sent by fellow posters some days ago. The reports on this thread were that AT&T was being called (literally) on the previous verbiage and, dare I say, they made a change to make it sound like it should have sounded to begin with (the previous message made it sound like one's device was shipping when it was not at that time).

EDIT: See Elbruggie's posting, immediately above this one, to compare those messages.

Mine:
2 IP7+ BLK 256GB, ordered 9/9 8:30am/12:30pm ET, 9/23-9/30
Web status = "Preparing to Ship"
All other statuses this morning (9/22) = "Backordered"

I pre-ordered myself a 128 GB 7+ MB and my wife a 32 GB 7+ MB on 9/9/16 at 3:24 am EST. I ordered them both together on the same order. The 128 is scheduled for 9/23-9/30, but the 32 is scheduled for 9/30-10/7. I have seen absolutely no movement on either of them. Will they ship separately even though they are on the same order and how does the status change work if one ships and not the other. Online it has said preparing to ship since day one. Through the little *6737# thing it says in progress. Am I ever going to get my phone. This feels like eternity....

I am not sure if that would work since Apple would give you the phone only when you have a line with AT&T (either existing or new). When you do that, the new device is associated with AT&T (your account). So you cannot add that IMEI # to another account (your wife's) unless you do a transfer billing responsibility.

Anyways best of luck and let us know how it goes.

They will ship the phones as they become available. So it could very well be separately.

From what I understand, the overall status will reflect the pending status (even if one item is pending from the order). You will have to look at the individual item status to see what is the current status of each item.

I was able to get a few responses from them via DM, but they haven't been much help at all in regards to the preorders. Mostly just "first come, first served" and the device I ordered was backordered, which was a MB 7+ 128g.
It's funny that they say "First come, First served" until I show them when I placed my orders vs friends orders. Then it's "well your phone is coming within those ship dates." Asshats. Granted this was through the chat from their website seeing how the twitter people were unresponsive.

I feel like having two phones in the same order (which i also have) is the reason mine is delayed so long. I dont know why I think this, but i do.

If I can make a new line on my wife's account that would be the best route. Hoping that I'll be able to just do that.
