Apple has made a lot more 7's and 7 Pluses available for reservation for those who went through the Apple Upgrade Program. Doubt they manufactured so many so fast so they must have taken inventory from carriers. Perhaps AT&T got hit the hardest.
I would instead suggest that since Apple is in control of their supply chain process, then they more likely kept a certain number of devices aside in just such an instance. After all, how else do certain VIP consumers get these devices ahead of others (a la Sports Illustrated and ESPN)?

While I think you're right that the manufacturing aspect hasn't been sped up, I think it also pays to remember that Apple's been at the manufacturing business of devices and computers for decades, and they could be reasonably expected to hold back a certain amount of inventory for such situations.

I know I'm going on about this, but I'm trying to insert business-related rationality into the discussion.

Any preorders from Chicago? If so have any of those shipped yet? And if so is it through UPS or FEDEX?
i'm in Chicago. 7+ 256 Jet black Sept 29-Oct6 and no movement. Charge dropped off my account overnight. Still at preparing to ship.:(

I'm in Chicago. Ugh wanted my phone Friday. There is still hope. We still have a full day to see if ours ships.
Yes true but if not I'm camping
I'm in Chicago and my phone shipped but I will camp out with you because I wanted Matte Black and ordered Gold because the Matte black estimated shipping it was giving me was early October. So I want to camp out at the AT&T store and try to get matte black. And good to hear you're not racist. Any way here's me --> twitter.com/havenhart
I live in Lakeview. What area do you think will have short lines?
what about the Apple Store?? Better chance there I've camped there 4 times and always left with my phone

They got hit with a class action lawsuit, I'm sure they could probably care less about fair.
Just because a group of lawyers threatens to sue and/or actually files to sue against a company, doesn't mean such a lawsuit has any merit and won't be dropped.

After all, unless someone can find evidence that Apple in some way guaranteed that existing Upgrade Plan consumers would have a separate queue of devices in which they'd have a better chance at procuring, then the case is baseless.

Which, by the way, since we're on an AT&T thread, let's go there. Using myself as an example, I've been on an AT&T Next plan. I have also been anal-lytical enough to read through all of the plan's fine print. I have seen nowhere that it states that, by virtue of being on such a plan, that someone I or anyone associated with my account have any special status or priority when it comes to upgrading.

Bottom line -- the only exception to everyone ordering iPhones from essentially the same pot (where only inventory changes based on demand make the difference) would be for those VIP folks that already have a device in hand (which was Apple's call to make during the logistics process and is not illegal by any stretch).

Camp out hmm...

At the same you won't know how many iPhones they have and what Config. It's only when you get up there and yea we only have this in this and this color. Take it or leave it .
I have camped out at Apple in deer park 4 times and always left with what I wanted

So, If I do not get a shipping date for Friday, would it be smart for me to just reserve a time at apple for Saturday?

My 2 orders have been updated to Shipped with delivery date of 9/16 before 3 pm.

128GB Silver iPhone 7 w/ Apple leather case
32GB Matte Black iPhone 7 w/ Apple leather case

AT&T doesn't want to give you any information - yet you can't cancel your order once it's in preparing to ship. It's a scam I tell you lol

They probably didn't take phones from carriers. By today, most of the iphones are probably allocated to whichever carrier. They probably took the extra stock out of the stock the Apple stores were already going to carry. The Apple stores would have had phones on hand for people that didn't reserve and just showed up. So now they have less extras in store.

Fair enough.

just got a text from ATT reminding me to complete my protect plus set up. almost had a heart attack thinking it had shipped.

Just checked my credit card and my phone was charged and now it doesn't show an iPhone charge on it like it got cancelled. Is that a good thing or bad?

I had the same thing happen to me. ATT still shows my order as preparing to ship but the charge disappeared from my bank account. Figure if ATT still shows an order than im good. Hoping this is the case.
