I was listening to the Upgrade podcast and they were saying that after asking lots of listeners and other people, the perceived modus operandi of the upgrade programme for a lot of users is that on pre-order day you'd get contacted by Apple saying it's time for an upgrade, choose your model, and have it arrive at home at the same time as if you'd just ordered on Apple.com.

And that you'd get sent a box to return your old phone in.

The reality - that you have to hope for the best on in-store stock availability - absolutely sucks and I'm not surprised at the uproar that happened last week in the States.

The plus side is that the Yanks are the guinea pigs and it will be more refined for us next year.

If only three added visual voicemail and native WiFi calling support, it would be perfect.

Most networks won't do visual voicemail as it's a costly upgrade to their network. Sadly.

Three have hinted That they are looking to switch wifi calling to native, but no timeframe.

Just taken a look at the 7 for the first time at the Apple store whilst I wait for mine to arrive, thoughts are:
  • (Matte) Black is a lot blacker than I expected (looks nice)
  • Jet Black is a nicer finish than I thought, doesn't appear as fragile a finish as I expected
  • ForceTouch Home button won't take any adjustment, but isn't as good an implementation as on the MacBook
  • The subtle haptic 'bumps' on things like pulling down the notification shade/pulling up control centre/zooming in or out of pics are really nicely implemented - will make a real difference to the experience of using the phone over time as more things leverage it

I do see what your saying. But just look at their trends the 7 is actually a different design inside and out. albeit a very similar design. i'd put money on the fact that they're going to do 7s. They're just clutching at straws at this point.

I've come to prefer S models and am generally more impressed with them over time. Part of the motivation of getting a 7+ from a 6S+ (along with speakers, water resistance and more ram) is that I fear the 8 will be compromised. Dazzling new form factor, small processor jump, same ram, worse battery life, marginally better camera, "first gen" issues, +1 "new thing" other than new form factor.

Had a few negative experiences with v1's.

My iPhone 7 Plus could either be sent on the 23rd or the the 30th (or neither of them ?) so if its the 23rd might it be tomorrow or wednesday night and if its the 30th next tuesday or next wednesday night ?

Just hassled the Apple chat people (again! :D) and the person i spoke to seemed confident that the 20-22 September orders would arrive tomorrow.

Naturally, I'm skeptical until I see a tracking reference, but here's an extract of the transcript:

Me: How likely (as a %age) will i be to getting my phone tomorrow?
Me: Given the information you have available to you, and your knowledge of apple's ordering systems and techniques
Apple: I would say there is a very high chance
Me: 10%? 50%? 75%? 100%?
Apple:
High 90’s

...love how you put the Apple Rep under pressure: ....give me a %age goddammit!!!!!!

:p:D

Finally... just changed to preparing for dispatch in the last 5 minutes.

...congrats!
;)

Hi, yes i have just ported my monthly sim only contract from O2 to EE, actually number is porting today.

Not really based on monthly cost as it is only £2 cheaper on EE. However, i do get more data 6Gb to 8Gb, much faster 4G speed (18Mb/s to 42Mb/s), 6 months apple music which i currently spend £10 per month so £60 saving, finally some cash back from Quidco. Did not take the BT sport option as I get the with BT Broadband.

Only downside was the loss of visual voicemail, so all in i thought it was worth the change for 12 months.
People should also check out the current Vodafone 12m Sim only deal.....

Unlimited mins/texts
25 GB data
4GB roaming data (note EE sim free doesn't include any roaming data)
12m Spotify premium (effectively saving £10 a month if current subscriber)
wifi calling included also

£25 a month. I actually took out a similar plan a few weeks ago but with 20GB data and for £22 a month. Value wise it takes some beating!!

Just a bit sceptical over their coverage, how have you found it? and the 4G speeds?

After using EE's network for the last year, you couldn't pay me to go back to Vodafone. It was just awful.

Though apparently in some areas Vodafone is by far the best and many people have a great experience with them.

I've had nothing but trouble with vodafone, here in Leeds and at home in Doncaster the data speeds have been terrible, things seemed to crawl and I got a lot of call dropouts too, I decided to use my personal phone under our bring your own device initiative at work rather than use works' designated network and ageing iP4S's

I'm on that too, however I will be changing to EE when they do another 16gb data for £20 deal as I'm fed up of threes crap quality network. It's slow and the amount of times I'll be waiting for a page to load with full signal but it then times out and I drop to zero signal is doing my head in.

I feel they've become too popular with the unlimited data and their network just cannot cope with the traffic on it
Tesco are currently doing 20gb for £20 and bt is 16gb for £15. Bt runs off of EE so same signal.
