Just hassled the Apple chat people (again! :D) and the person i spoke to seemed confident that the 20-22 September orders would arrive tomorrow.

Naturally, I'm skeptical until I see a tracking reference, but here's an extract of the transcript:

Me: How likely (as a %age) will i be to getting my phone tomorrow?
Me: Given the information you have available to you, and your knowledge of apple's ordering systems and techniques
Apple: I would say there is a very high chance
Me: 10%? 50%? 75%? 100%?
Apple: High 90’s

I would have thought that the point is to be able to get a new iPhone every year. That's the main point, not to get an iPhone on launch day. If that were the case then what about people who join the upgrade program in December or May or March?

Yeah valid point actually. I was seeing it as some sort of program for the "hardcore" Apple fans. Whereas it's actually just a way of making it affordable.

Would be good if they did a version for the hardcore amongst us with a priority order or something :)

Well the window is that for a reason. People will get it on one of those dates. More the earlier than the later of that window, depending on where you are in the country.

Any one gone sim free and changed from O2 to EE or vice versa? Any reason behind the swap other than price/package?

I swapped from EE to Three, though that was the other year. Although EE has slightly faster speeds, the cost to data is obscene. I have a reasonable speed on Three and unlimited data, so I can stream Netflix on HD on my telly all day long.

Are you still on 'Preparing for dispatch'? Or has yours actually dispatched now?

I have a 20-22 7+ Black on order which is still on PFD

I was listening to the Upgrade podcast and they were saying that after asking lots of listeners and other people, the perceived modus operandi of the upgrade programme for a lot of users is that on pre-order day you'd get contacted by Apple saying it's time for an upgrade, choose your model, and have it arrive at home at the same time as if you'd just ordered on Apple.com.

And that you'd get sent a box to return your old phone in.

The reality - that you have to hope for the best on in-store stock availability - absolutely sucks and I'm not surprised at the uproar that happened last week in the States.

Enough for a class action lawsuit

I pre-ordered 128G Plus Rose Gold with my Halifax credit card, and the delivery window is 20-22 Sept, but the payment is still not taken and it's still processing on the status, the pre-authorisation £1.00 has gone as well, I checked with Apple they say it's already authorised and should be fine, anyone else on the same boat?

I'm in the same position. Ordered 7+ Black 256GB. Still on 20-22 having previously been bumped. Email received at 0815. Payment appears to have been taken from my account but no transaction is actually recorded.

Hi, yes i have just ported my monthly sim only contract from O2 to EE, actually number is porting today.

Not really based on monthly cost as it is only £2 cheaper on EE. However, i do get more data 6Gb to 8Gb, much faster 4G speed (18Mb/s to 42Mb/s), 6 months apple music which i currently spend £10 per month so £60 saving, finally some cash back from Quidco. Did not take the BT sport option as I get the with BT Broadband.

Only downside was the loss of visual voicemail, so all in i thought it was worth the change for 12 months.

hi

Hi,

My order went to dispatched the day after yours, and has a Departure Scan now from ZhengZhou, China.

Says delivery on Thursday, but every UPS delivery always comes a day earlier. Guess living next door to Faslane has some benefits :)

FYI, I have ordered loads of items from Apple, and when shipping from China there is always a delay of 36 to 48 hours whilst sitting and waiting to leave China. But once you get the Departure Scan notification from ZhengZhou, China then u'll be happy to see the speed at which is gets from China to your door. I am full expecting it to arrive Wednesday, but Thursday is also ok (as long as it gets here!!)

Thanks for that! Perhaps I should keep an eye out tomorrow then if the expected delivery date is Weds? :)

Same here preparing for dispatch on my Black 7 Plus 256gb and my credit card is now showing the payment as well.

Yeah, I understand. It just really bugged me when a few people started calling users childish.

When actually, I think the people who are left in this thread now are people who have genuinely had a lack of communication from Apple (me included) that caused frustration.

The kids who ordered 7 phones and cancelled 6 of them to get a launch day phone are happily playing with their phones!

I hear ya, for sure. I can totally see that people are frustrated.. and since it's tricky (and largely useless) to air your frustration directly /at/ Apple, this small community here is the place people choose to vent. I get that. Calling our users childish is too far, although on the flip side some people are coming over as a bit privileged or spoilt. That is their prerogative though of course.

Looking at the bigger picture though...I don't think it's anything we're going to get away from any time soon though. Your point about people ordering more phones than they needed is never going to help the situation but again, people are /that/ desperate for a launch day iPhone that they'll go to any lengths. It is a shame because it's another contributory factor in making Apple look like they botched the launch more than they did.

I can't decide if they genuinely backed the wrong horse by thinking the plus model wouldn't be as popular as it turned out to be so didn't have as many as they needed at launch or they've made some other logistical or planning error.

EE do visual voicemail as well - I use it on my phone.
