The Apple TV is just a hobby, safari is snappier, wait a few days for the glue to cure and the yellow will disappear, wait a few days for iOS to index files and it will be snappy, you're holding it wrong.

You know, if they did bundle some kind of wireless earphones with the phone it might just get people interested but you know the "Airpods" are going to come at a hefty supplement!

While I agree this iPhone 7 isn't looking to be anything innovative or exciting (and I won't be upgrading), I'm confident that it will be a respectable all-around update (evolution not revolution). Even with Jobs, Apple was never the "throw a bunch of things out there to see what sticks" kind of company. They don't make change just for the sake of change.

Regarding the dongle (which it appears is your main concern), Jobs was always a big proponent of removing ports/buttons. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that. Dongles were very much a thing in the Jobs era to assist in the transition away from certain ports. I doubt Jobs would have wanted to keep the headphone jack. I'm not a fan and not defending the decision, but it's a classic Apple/Jobs move.

Personally, while I think including a (free) dongle is a great move, I believe Apple needs to really push wireless headphones. I've been primarily using bluetooth headphones for the past year (the Apple Watch is what pushed me in that direction), and I think they are a marked improvement over wired. There is definitely room to improve, and I hope Apple can innovate on that front. Battery life hasn't even really been a big issue for me.
Although there are many advantages to wireless listening, audio sync is a problem when watching video and another device to charge is a pain as it will inevitably require a charge when you need it most.
I can't believe the amount of b s circulating regarding the reasons for removing the audio port, especially related to audio quality. If there's a quality problem, Its Apple's fault as they specify the DAC. Moving the audio conversion to outside suppliers is insane as it will increase the cost and size of ear/headphones, as well as increasing battery consumption. If people were concerned about audio quality, they could already be jacking into the Lightning port. If "water proofing" is the reason, it's already been done. If it's "space saving", who gives a crap? The MacBook is another irritating example of port reduction, but even that has a 3.5mm socket.
Why, why, why Apple?

If they ditch the headphone port they have to include a lightning to 3.5mm adaptor in the box. Would be a really bad move to make people buy that.

I think it is dumb for apple to make the camera on the Plus so much better than the regular model. I don't want the bigger size iPhone, is there really not enough room for the better camera in the regular size iPhone?

sure there is! but it's called milking the cow. You're the cow and your money is the milk. This is just what Apple does.

So I am just wondering, what do you bluetooth wireless headphones guys do when the batteries fail to give a good enough charge for your use case?
I forget about the battery life when the audio isn't as good as a wired headset. And when the batteries finally begin to not be very good I just throw them away and never buy another set.

No one seems to be talking much about what that dual lens camera will be able to do. We might be getting full DSLR capabilities in the size of a smartphone. That to me is phenomenal and I'm no professional photographer. Might be worth the upgrade in and of itself.

What case? It might technically be stereo, but not audibly.
Is it the case that there are no perceptible stereo effects if the distance between the speakers is less than 2 inch? Or what is that minimum distance? Everybody assumes that there is no stereo effect but does anybody actually know what the required minimum distance is?

There will only be a volume/loudness increase so idiots without earphones can be doubly annoying.
Because there are no legitimate uses of the iPhone speaker(s). Right. I guess the better speakers in the two iPad Pro models also serve no other purpose than to enable people to annoy others even more.

Rumor is that the Swiss Army will be designing the next Apple adapter.

Not sure which is worse, that adapter, or the phone the anti-3.5mm jack removal crowd wants is:

It would be a worse move to encourage customers to continue to use their old 3.5mm products rather than at least investigate alternatives which may offer a better overall experience.

But at least you can listen to left or right. Police scanner apps have different agencies on the left or right channel. It would be great to turn off one or the other on the phone.

Including the adapter would give users a "bridge" to say goodbye *sniff* to those beloved headphones they've had since 1982!!! :)

Your adapter is missing mini din, ESDI (c'mon, if you're including SCSI?!) and TOSLink (fibre audio). (could likely think of others, but just don't want to work that hard to remember) ;) (ooh....thicknet....arcnet) :)

You mean like you can already?

Settings > General > Accessibility >, scroll down,
L-----O-----R
"Adjust the audio volume balance between left and right channels"

You're welcome. Though I'm not sure I approve of 'Police scanner apps'. But anyway, the option is there.

Yes I know that but having a separate speaker make more sense IMO

With just over six weeks remaining until Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, leaked photos and rumors surrounding the smartphones are starting to become clear and consistent.

Deutsche Bank is the latest group to add its expectations to the mix, issuing a research note obtained by Business Insider that corroborates several previously rumored features coming in this year's refresh.

The bank, which allegedly made supply chain checks, believes the 4.7-inch model will have an improved camera and optical image stabilization, while the larger 5.5-inch model is set to gain a dual-lens camera and 3GB of RAM.

Both models are also expected to have no headphone jack, a touch-sensitive home button with haptic feedback, a new darker color, "professional class" waterproofing, and improved sound, possibly by way of stereo speakers.

Perhaps the most interesting bit is Deutsche Bank's belief that the iPhone 7 will ship with a Lightning-to-3.5mm headphone jack dongle in the box, rather than Lightning-based EarPods as previously speculated.

Many aftermarket Lightning-to-3.5mm adapters are bulky and clunky looking due to the need for a digital-to-analog converter, however, so it remains to be seen if Apple could create a dongle that meets its high standards of design.

Every single one of Deutsche Bank's predictions have surfaced previously:

- No 3.5mm headphone jack: WSJ, Fast Company, Mac Otakara, and many others
- Dual-lens camera for iPhone 7 Plus: Ming-Chi Kuo, Mac Otakara, and many others
- 3GB of RAM for iPhone 7 Plus: Ming-Chi Kuo
- Touch-sensitive home button: DigiTimes, Cowen and Company
- Improved waterproofing: WSJ, Fast Company, DigiTimes, Commercial Times, Weibo
- Stereo speakers: DigiTimes, Mac Otakara
- A new darker color: Mac Otakara and leaked photo
- Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter: Mac Otakara

Apple is widely expected to announce the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in September. Other rumored features include a faster TSMC-made Apple A10 processor, repositioned antenna bands, faster LTE and Wi-Fi, a slightly larger battery, and a minimum 32GB of base storage. A larger 256GB model may also be available.

[doublepost=1469231222][/doublepost]A dongle would be more like a boondoggle for me

dongle: of course no one likes this. but, it makes a lot of sense in this case:
  • imagine a world where a company such as apple dumps a 40+ year standard and the entire history of that interface is not useable. the incredible total waste to the planet is almost unimaginable
  • it gives everyone clear 1 year ahead warning that next year in fact any ear pods that ship with iPhone will be using Lightning or USB-C, so don't go purchasing any more old style plugs
all of the rest of the points mentioned by the Deutsche Bank note are more clearly repetitions of old rumors.

but, if almost all of these rumors do come about as fact when the product is released, i think that there will be the biggest sales for any iPhone to date. this is a combination of:
  • pent-up demand
  • yearly upgradable contracts
  • so so many people still using older iPhone 5s and before) devices
  • one more year that China and India have had to increase their abilities to pay for upper end product
  • other Asian market's not having purchased the 6s and therefore likely to purchase an iPhone 7 (having skipped a cycle)
  • playing the new color card like midnight blue or space black always increases sales
