I'm going with no inventory to start with. This has happened with just about every iPhone release. You think they would of figured it out if it was in such high demand the would start mass production sooner.

Apple holds back production on purpose so it looks like it's in such high demand. Excellent PR.

James
Right because people complaining all over the internet that they can't order the phone they want is good PR.

Yeah I just noticed that right now and did the LTE band compare. But still i don't understand why they dont just make one model. It's alot easier from a manufacturing process...

They do effectively make one model. The only difference between the Verizon/Sprint model and the AT&T/T-Mobile model is that the CDMA chip is disabled in the later so Apple doesn't have to pay licensing fees.

Ordered jet black 7 on ATT through Apple Store app, delivers Sep 16. Was torn between the plus and the seven this year but once I saw the delivery date for November, my mind was made up. Seven it is, I would have regretted the plus' size.

You would think that but will never go smaller, plus all the way. The camera will be insane for a phone

Same exact thing happened to me. I ordered not knowing when the phones are gonna ship. It's a disaster. I'll eat my words if they actually ship on time before orders on Apple.com
Who knows, maybe it really will ship on time--I was surprised that my 6 shipped right on time, and their allocation is probably entirely separate from Apple itself, so they may have stock even after Apple sold out.

Of course, part of the reason they might actually still have stock is that it was almost impossible to place a pre-order...

The unknown stock status is a serious annoyance; I can accept their phone lines being totally overwhelmed; it's the fact that the website was absolutely, completely broken that really bugs me. It isn't just slow, it is 100% nonfunctional, which is just embarrassing.

Again, though, maybe their phone lines wouldn't have been so overwhelmed if, you know, the website worked. I know I wouldn't have called in if I had any other choice...

Still completely hosed, by the way. Now if I try to upgrade an iPhone (5s or 6), I get exactly one option: the "ZTE Falcon® Z-917 Hotspot - Certified Pre-Owned". Great.

Adding insult to injury, Apple sent me an email at 3:30 am Eastern, 29 minutes after Apple stopped taking reservations, letting me know it's time to upgrade and to make a reservation now.
Same here ... A**Holes lol

I really think they do this on purpose. Only 1 time have i ever ordered 2 phones in under 10 minutes. That was for the 6s. Everything worked perfectly on there site. It was a miracle. Sadly, this time I had to try many different times and ways. I almost bought it thru Apple with the apple care just to get it done. Fortunately, I tried again thru AT&T, and it worked for some reason. It originally was working, then went to out of stock on everything. Then started working again. I think I paid off my phone a few times during the process :(

Whatever! Getting 1 rose and 1 jet-black (says october early for black, most likely will change). :)

I cant quite figure this out. Last and this year I ordered form ATT and was done in less that 5 min. This year, ATT was up well before apple. I started at 3:02 and done 3:06. Confirmation emails received. Delivery 9/16.

Prior to 3AM the site was a bit wonky and that pop up screen that blocked everything a pain.

Could not access the webstore or Apple Store App until at least after 14mins from when the preorders went live.
Managed to get the iPhone Plus Jet Black 256GB but was showing 30 September for delivery when i added it and by time i pressed checkout it changed in my email confirmation to 5-14 October (Australia) :(

Theres a few saying they managed to get that model for delivery on the 16th but its only a handful and to be honest they could be trolling?? Most got estimates either 30th September then next early to mid October and now November...Yikes!!

Hey I'll take the 12.9 iPad Pro over the MacBook / MacBook Air any day. And I have both a MacBook and MacBook Air so I really mean it. I never use them anymore.

I was just messing with you. :) I thought about getting the iPad Pro but decided to wait for round 2 of the device instead. How do you like it?

Why would it say "ships 6-8 days" & delivers Sep 27th?

My friend who lives a few blocks down who is also an iPhone upgrade member told me he too was trying right away to get a 128 silver 7+ Using the Apple Store app. When trying to do the upgrade and reserve in store it told him it was out of stock. He then tried to see if he could just buy one instead, which he could and it said pickup at store on 9/16. So he checked the iPhone upgrade and it again said out of stock so he ended up just getting a new one without the upgrade program and can do an in store pick up on 9/16. Why and how can it be out of stock in store for us to upgrade but not for a normal purchase?

It's shipping from china so it takes about a week to get arrive at your door. Same for my Apple Watch and other past iPhones. It ships a week in advance

The phones you buy with no contract are unlocked phones

Not true. The plus is a brick and a pain to carry. I moved from 6+ to 6s and never regretted it. I want a phone that fits in my pocket comfortably.

I agree that this is a crappy practice but shouldn't the buyers be blamed as well? If they don't buy from these scalpers, then there's no market for them. It's a two-way problem, in my opinion, and I place just as much blame on the people that give into their impatience and pay the fool's tax.
Apple should have a part in this too like limit the number people can order at one time. Better watch EBay, sometimes they don't really even have what they advertise

WTF Apple thought all the pricing structures and tiers were staying the same and now we see that the 7+ 128 GB and 256 GB are $20 more? The heck?!

Hate to seem greedy but seems like they're essentially saying 128 and 256 GB Buyers gave to pay for headphones to lightning adapters and that the cost of 128 GB storage suddenly spiked? Thanks for a higher installment plan these next 24 months jerks

so question ...... i am on AT&T but since they were all out of the one (jet black) I want (in like 5 minutes) I reserved a t-mobile model. And i am with the apple upgrade program so the phone comes unlocked. will I have problem using it? I'm in US

It SHOULD be useable
( I used an unlocked TMO on occasion )
However you may not be guaranteed to get the best possible network coverage, data connections or data speeds since it won't be as optimized for said network and their coverage bands
The difference in some areas tho
( hopefully yours )
Can be negligible

Not sure why we are getting screwed. I joined the program to specifically upgrade every year. Not sure where to complain or if it's even worth it ...

Can we show up in line and wait?

I don't specifically know who you would complain to aside from calling apple support and getting someone on the phone and they would direct you to the right person. I completely understand the frustration IUP users are having because the main sell point is you can always get the new iPhone, but if you are having to wait an extra month or two to get it then it seems pretty much intentional on Apple's behalf in order to get more money from you before swapping to a new phone.

Because your upgrade means a less profit for Apple. You or a full price sale....hmmmm

People that were able to even order are lucky, I'm in the ATT screw you program and the idiots won't let me order until the 21st. By then at this rate shipping dates for black phones will be next summer..

I don't know why they'd screw people who upgrade every year by making us wait 2 weeks to order when that pushes shipping dates back MONTHS. There's just no reason for this other than to screw people over like ATT is fond of doing.

Oh and when I started the ordering process I had a September 16th ship date...

I'm just going to use a non iPhone Upgrade Program option on 9/17 under the disguise of full retail or upgrading another line on my account and sort it out when I get in store. Wish I would've known that.
