so your conspiracy theory is -- rather than actually sell you an actual iphone for actual profit (the thing that corps breathe) apple is sneakily not selling you one, so they can...not make profit. is that what youre saying? do you ever listen to yourself before typing?

hair-brained nonsense. these things dont grow on trees and you can only get so many asian workers to work so many shifts to make so many millions of units before launch day.

No that's not what I'm saying, but carry on with your interpretation anyway. I don't do the explain/argue thing with people on message boards.

utter BS. i have a jet black 128 delivering 9/16. sorry it didnt work out for you this time, but that doesnt mean it was a "C-O-N-SPIRACY"

Can you explain why a brand new "color", expected to have the highest demand, has the least supply? You'd think the geniuses at Apple would scale back on the rose gold and silver and ramp up the two blacks, especially the Jet Black, knowing it will be in high demand.

So, The iPhone Upgrade Program is BS. [...] At this point the site tells me to come back on the 17th at 8am. No future dates, no waiting for the next batch shipments, just SOL.
Really, I couldn't get in thru the website or app until quarter after 3AM, at which time all LI stores were sold out. And on the upgrade program, it didn't estimate a date, didn't put you on a list, didn't nuthin. It's good bye and good luck. This is very upsetting, I've been able to get the new phones on day one every year but this, with no guidence on how or when I can get my upgrade phone. I thought the upgrade program would be easy!

I am new to the upgrade program this year, but I am assuming that you could do it online at least my prompts looked that way.

Are you all saying that you can't upgrade online with the upgrade program?

Yet every year, we hear the same old, tired words from Apple -- Amazing record sales, but they won't give numbers. Wonder why? Smoke and mirrors. Just make the shareholders happy.

I would imagine that if IUP customers provide enough feedback, Apple will tweak a few things as to how the program works for situations like this. This was the first Preorder for IUP customers, and yes, the experience was frustrating.

Don't worry guys once that thing is officially released, they're going to be available everywhere. This fake supply constraints is just to get attention. Your christmas still going to be great and you have plenty of time. :D

That's true! AND, probably better deals, too!

The same thing happened last year with the rose gold... people had to wait at least a week before getting their hands on one.

I had one delivered to my door on launch day. I had more issues last year because the website wasn't coming up for me. I switched to the Apple app and pushed right through.

Obviously based on previous stories supply was much weaker than normal for whatever reason. Overall appears to be the waterproofing that weakened output but the jet black likely had lower numbers. As much as everyone wants to think Apple should be perfect and can handle millions of people pegging their servers all at once, they aren't. Nobody is. I was a network engineer for a long time and it is a very hard feat to achieve; handling that much volume at once. Considering the volume, it was pretty smooth once I got in. I'm sure it wasn't perfect for everyone. After being in support for 15+ years you find that nothing is perfect and someone will always find a way to break something that shouldn't be broken.

I was able to log into the Apple app about the same time as others it seems, ~7 minutes after. I initially had a black 128 on AT&T for Sept 23rd and then after getting to one of the final screens I went back to look at the times and lost it. Then when I got to the end where it pushes you to the accessories I kept clicking back to Summary to finish the order which started me over. I didn't notice I had the items in my "bag" already and had to click over to that screen to checkout. I had to remove 2 bogus ones before checking out. So in the process of figuring that out I went from the 23rd to the first week in October. No big deal, I'm guessing once things level out the dates will move up a bit.

I still think demand was high just due to the sheer number of iPhone users out there. They also opened to more countries it seems on the first phase so even more people to throw into the mix. Leading up to the keynote I didn't have big plans to update this year even though Im on a 12mo next plan due to the rumors leading up to it. I had a few deciding factors that pushed me over the edge. The first was the change in next plans, not sure when those happened but the next 12 went from being paid off in 18mo to 24mo which lowered the monthly price. So that allowed me to go up to a plus this year and still pay a dollar less than I was already. With the increase in storage sizes I went from 64 to 128 staying in the same price tier as previous. I'm interested in the camera improvements but wasn't a huge factor. The last thing that was intriguing was the performance improvements with the A10. I was really impressed with the improvement on the A9 last year and it looks like they killed it again this year. So overall once I put my pieces to the puzzle together it was a no-brainer for me.

Good luck to everyone who ordered this morning and those who attempt fate at standing in line on launch day!

OK, so I'm on the upgrade program but can't get a reservation to upgrade, sold out. So I might not get my new phone for a month. So that means I'm paying an extra month on my subscription for the old current phone, then next month when I get my phone 7, i'll be a month behind on payments and this means I'll ALWAYS BE INELIGIBLE for an upgrade until a month after release every subsequent year because you need to make 12 payments.

hmm so where does the Upgrade Program specify you get yours first or launch-day delivery? it doesnt. your expectations arent matching the world we live in.

You should be given equal chance to at least preorder the phone and get it shipped to the store for pickup. Existing Customers on Apple Upgrade Program can't do this. If the store does not have the phone in stock all you can do is wait. There is no waiting list also...who wants to keep checking daily to see if the store has your color of storage type phone....With ATT next you can preorder for various delivery dates.

But I thought nobody wanted the one without the headphone jack and such a minor improvement over last year's specs????????? I don't understand all the orders.
Let me help you understand.

I have a paid off iPhone 6. I watched while Apple debuted the the 7. I considered all the improvements, and the fact is, there was nothing there that solved a problem for me. So, upgrading to the 7 was not going to happen at $850 (256 GB model). I joked that I would be happy to trade my 128 6 for a 256 7 though...

And THAT is exactly what happened.

Two months ago I took advantage of a special to upgrade my daughters 5C and an old iPad to an LE for her, and an iPad pro, for me. I got a $200 Visa card from T-Mobile when I did that. It showed up two weeks ago.

So T-Mobile has a deal where they will trade in a paid off iPhone 6 and count it towards an iPhone 7. What they do, is pay the monthly cost of the phone for you. You will actually see a monthly credit for $27. Since I wanted the 256 GB version, I had to pay $200 out of pocket, plus taxes, which came to $280. I was given an additional $165 because mine is a 128 GB (not the stock one). The difference is $115. I grabbed my $200 gift card and paid for the upgrade.

I'm still $85 ahead. I upgraded to the newest, latest, and greatest at no cost to me.... and still came out ahead. Had this offer not happened, I would not have done it.

"but now you're stuck in a contract...." No. I was already in that boat. I started at being "tethered" to T-Mobile for the next 1 year and ten months... because I upgraded my iPad and my daughters phone. The payment for the phone will be spaced out over two years. That's fine, the difference is two months. If after one year and ten months I decide to leave... I can afford the $54 to pay off the phone and leave.

Anyway, I have a 0% interest, 0 risk, -$85 upgrade (I made $85 and still got the upgrade). I guess you could say I got paid to upgrade... So yes, I would take the iPhone 7 if I was paid to.

I agree they need to make adjustments to the program to allow people on it the same chance for pre-orders that other programs allow. Although it only affects a small portion of users, it will ultimately turn people away from it and thats not likely what they want. I like the idea of the whole thing but stories coming back make it seem too cumbersome to deal with when carrier programs are a much easier option. They just don't include the AppleCare.

I don't get how people think apple would purposely leave money on the table...

I agree. Compared to the 6 & 6 Plus, the best selling iPhones of all time, which started selling out before the Apple online store was even back up, and had slipped to a month out delivery shortly afterwards.

https://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/12/iphone-6-6-plus-sales-record/

So I would say models not selling out for over 20 minutes in comparison is exactly what we should expect from a phone model that's not going to sell as well, in part due to people skipping this model due to the headphone jack removal, and no breakthrough, must-have features. Although Anyone who values portable photography in their phone, the 7 Plus seems like a must have.

Anyone preorder from Target? I just put my info in and they have me a confirmation # don't know if I will get it next Friday. If not I will be away for vacation, just wondering if they will charge my card even though I didn't put any payment information in?

I just did that too, I have a feeling they're going to send me an email sometime in November saying "your phones are ready for pickup".....lol

Pretty great experience over at T-Mobile:

Trading in an iPhone 6 for a iPhone 7 128 GB Silver: $100 out of pocket

Trading in an iPhone 5s for iPhone 7 32 GB Black: $250 out of pocket

They pay the rest for 24 months, and both phones should be at my door September 15th :)

so when the presale started, 1 of the 2 stores in my area were not available... this morning the store became available I was able to get a silver 256 7plus. Anyone else notice that initial stores where not available and then this morning they were?

I just did that too, I have a feeling they're going to send me an email sometime in November saying "your phones are ready for pickup".....lol
I checked my order status it's not even in there. I would rather go to the store and pick it up when available and not preorder and wait till November lol.

is there a way to pay in store so I can sell my iPhone towards the 7? or is there any way I can sell my iphone 6s and put it towards the 7? Can someone tell me the steps please.

We are also making assumptions that sales will be tied to the presence or absence of a headphone jack. I personally think this is overblown.

It makes for great writing in the news sites that want clicks on their articles so they need to manufacture rage. Everyone who responds DOES plug in their headphones. I never do and of all the iPhone owners that I know and see in my group of friends - none have ever had headphones plugged into them.

This is overblown hype IMHO

Are you all saying that you can't upgrade online with the upgrade program?
you can upgrade online, but you are simply reserving an available phone from your local store's supply. When you have your pickup time you can skip the lines on launch day and they will go through the process of the upgrade, which is an inspection of your current phone that you are trading in, a credit check, and then the ID check and then a reapplication for the iphone upgrade program for the new phone.

You can't order one and have it shipped to you or anything though and this pre-sale, the available stock in store appeared so limited that many of us weren't able to pre-order anything cause the stores were all "sold out" or in my opinion never really gonna be available to begin with.

One of the ways you could do this is with your carrier. Granted I doubt you get the phone on release day next week but Verizon is offering a free 7 with a trade in.
