Speaking of iPhone 7 tests, I accidentally dropped my new iPhone 7 Plus from a 180 feet high cage suspended by a crane in a field whilst about to make a charity bungee jump only just yesterday. Forget whether or not it survived my 'stress test' - I couldn't even find it.

Watch out Apple; class-action lawsuit coming your way!

(watches video)
"Soda". :p

It will be nice to finally be able to go to the beach without worrying about my phone so much. Water resistance probably means it'll also keep sand out, and though I'm still going to be careful with sand because it may scratch the screen, at least I don't have to treat my phone like some sacred hallowed object while at the beach, and can take more pictures from out in the water without being nervous about ruining my phone.

Eeyup.. IP rating covers sand etc but you'd definitely want to watch out for scratches. One grain of sand can do some surprising marking if it ends up rubbing against the phone - it's actually probably a good reason NOT to use a case at the beach.

Are we coming up to "Watergate" now ?

:D :D :D
It was almost #Beergate for my keyboard there...

Somehow, I don't find these tests amusing at all. Do you?
And MR keeps feeding these to us. How about something better to post?

These tests make no sense.
Someone may drop their iPhone from a tall building and result in not a scratch, but someone else will drop it from knee-height and completely crack the display.

What a waste of coffee and Soda. Unbelievable. I just can't watch these videos. It's like watching a train wreck you saw coming for miles.

I'd rather watch this iFixIt video of the iPhone 7 in a fish tank that listen to Gwendolyn Gay. I still miss MJ.

Anyone else just sat there watching iFixit's live stream and wondering what they're doing with their life?
With the monetization of the view, they are laughing to the bank.

Who’s paying for these phones? Like the JerryRigEverything guy that supposedly purchaesd the iPhone 7, having purchaed 30-something various phones previously. Ceratinly ad revenue alone can’t justify this expense? Or am I underestimating what’s to be made by YouTubers?
Yes, you are underestimating what can be made on YouTube. It is some people's full time job...

Admittedly, I couldn't watch all those videos all the way through. They tend to drone on and on at length for some reason (need to get to the point, and cut out the fluff and the uhhhh's and ummmm's.)

However, I did watch into them to the point to see that they are water resistant enough to make me consider upgrading from my 6+. For protection from both my own carelessness as well my little boy's.

Makes me wonder what case makers like LifeProof are going to do, though, as I imagine their products will have to cater even more to the extreme sports crowd than they already do, as there's likely to be a reduction in sales to the average consumer as these types of decice improvements continue to progress.

If somebody gets their new iPhone rejected for warranty repair due to liquid damage, you'd definitely know they've been abusing it (based on these videos). Should make warranty cases a little easier.

I say that, but they'll claim they once got mildly splashed by a car while the phone was in their hand, and start a class-action lawsuit out of the whole thing.

I'm betting the phone can handle a lot more then they have claimed, when one comes in with water damage I bet Apple will just replace it, would be cheaper then any kind of lawsuit, or even the publicity that would come from not replacing it.

I jumped in a salt water pool once with my week old 4S and it was ruined, Apple replaced it even though it was obviously water damage, its one of the reason I stay with Apple.

One of my pet peeves is when I'm looking for how to do something, and there are only Youtube videos coming up in the results. And they're always 5 minutes of waffling, 10 seconds of how to actually do the thing stretched out to somehow take 2 minutes, and another minute or two of subscribe/like begging.

I don't know where else to put this rant, but why not here.

I am currently on the phone with Apple Customer Care, where it has taken 45 minutes to reach someone. When I ordered my phone last week, I entered the wrong zip code. The site would not let me correct the zip code online, and asked me to call a customer care number. This I tried to do for 4-5 times over the past week, each time giving up after being put on hold for 30-45 minutes.

I now called since they went ahead and charged my credit card, tried to deliver the phone, but then told UPS to return it to Apple after the zip code did not match the address.

So after 45 minutes, I get a bunch of people who can't even look up the order number online to change it. They now just lost the connection, so I now have to call again.

Meanwhile, no phone, and my account still is charged.

If this is where the Apple customer support is going, you can spill as much as you want on the new iPhone 7, but this company is going down the tubes. RIM, anyone?

I'd say you picked the wrong thread but no less on topic than some other comments.

I agree there are too many of these damage videos. The ones that do "real world" tests (like dropping them) are interesting but the ones that are outrageous using blowtorches and stuff are just drivel. Like anything else, ignore them and they will eventually go away. If they get millions of views, you can bet they'll keep it up.

I can't believe he dunked it.. ...

He took apart the iPhone 7 to check for water damage.... but we never saw him try it again when closing it back up..

There's really enough ad revenue to support so many people performing the same wasteful stunts each year?

(As if anecdotes are the same as large-scale tests anyway.)
We have zero evidence of this but could be they are working for Apple.

Another person not understanding the difference between waterproof and water resistant. There is no way Apple will replace phones that have been submerged.
[doublepost=1474053191][/doublepost]I'd like to see a salt water test. Then see if it works after a week or so.
Make it a day. Lol

Now we'll see over the weeks Youtube videos of people taking their phone for a swim...

No one can ever go any where without their tech can they, even when trying to enjoy yourself..
