Because up until week ago they used to. Apple are being totally opaque. And the mess up with deliveries this time round suggests some serious disorganization has occurred and as a shareholder, I want to know exactly what the heck is going on.

Still, if you can't influence anything with the few shares you have it's not worth obsessing about.

Sell the shares if you are not convinced that Apple is a good company.

There are so many factors influencing production that are not being made public, that it is farfetched to bring up
"serious disorganization".

I work in assembly of products, so I see many production issues. My work is on a mini scale compared to what Apple has to pull off.

You make 50 million of anything and promise me that it will all go smoothly with 400 components from sub-suppliers or whatever is in these phones.

Not going to lie, it was hard to resist upgrading my 6 plus to a black 7 plus.

But I managed and I'm still alive :)

Fingers crossed next year will be worth the wait. Congrats to those who got their toys today!

Thanks for sharing your positiveness around here. Some still find a reason to bash Apple in every fashion. The 6s Plus is still a workhorse iPhone by the way. Great phone.

But not nearly as short sighted and ignorant as your comment stands for those who purchased the iPhone 7. Fortunately your opinion is just that....an opinion.
your opinion is just that....an opinion, who on earth cares!!!it's not a essential upgrade.you hear me :D

I think the thing most people are forgetting is that Apple had problems at the factory and didn't really gear up production until middle or late August. Whether you believe that or choose to believe that Apple decided to throttle back production to either build interest or to just build Phones as needed depending on demand...right now the reality is there are not enough phones to meet demand..why people think they need it on the day of release ..
I figure this delay gives those of us who are not early adopters, the time to hear reviews and make sure the hardware is solid before buying..but I enjoy the excitement and so far really enjoy iOS 10 good job Apple!

Because for people who get a new phone yearly, not getting the phone right away is less day(s) to enjoy the phone until the next one comes out. In addition... the price is the same whether you get it now or later, might as well get it right away and start enjoying it.

I'll start by pointing out that I do not post here much. My girlfriend and I have been participating in every launch day event starting since 2009. Some years we have pre-ordered but most we have waited in line for. This years launch is the most frustrating yet. We were camping in the mountains when pre-orders opened and planned on waiting in line as we have done many times this morning until learning that stores wouldn't have the 7 plus on launch day. Why did Apple change their distribution model? In the past Apple always made small quantities available to stores, even when pre-orders sold quickly. I just don't get this years launch.
Apple messed up their iPhone Upgrade Program and a lot of people who should have had the ability to upgrade weren't allowed to because of hiccups in the computer system. A lot of customers were upset and Apple decided to take away inventory from retail stores to appease the upset IUP customers (especially since there was a class action lawsuit forming).

Also, there were reports that manufacturing was more difficult and time consuming this year because of the device being water resistant, so that probably led to a smaller yield.

The only thing I can tell you is that, I visit 2 T-mobile stores each store receive 6 iPhone 7 in black 128 g. That's it, this really sucks I though cApple was well prepared for launch of the iPhone 7. And there is a lot of people angry out there.

Just back from my carrier store here in Canada - no line-up - picked-up a 128GB Black 7 - they had NO 7+ period and NO Jet Black period.

Went down to the Apple Store in the same mall to buy a case - inventory out the proverbial ying yang lined up on a table at the back of the store ... both 7 & 7+ ... but NO Jet Black.

You guys are all suckers to me. I'm still using my iPhone 5 from 4 years ago. It still works perfectly.

People lining up to buy the iPhone 7. A phone that's supposed to be a failure because it looks too much like last years model and they removed the headphone jack.

People lining up to return their Note 7. A phone people claimed was the best phone in the world.

Back on topic, my kids will be happy as their 7P 128GB phones are due to arrive today. My wife and I still have a couple weeks to wait for ours, though.

Why say that people are suckers for doing what makes them happy.

Everybody to their own. If you are happy with your 5, good for you. Don't belittle others for not following your steps.

Completely agree, although I do believe they should have postponed the launch by a couple weeks to allow production to catch up. The excitement is amazing, although it seems to be waning considerably from the iPhone 4 and 5 launches. I still question the decision to not stock plus models in store on launch, but in my case the decision has taken away my impulse to purchase and therefore may skip this one.
Then they would lose the hype that they don't have enough to meet demand. But then again, while I agree, that iPhone is a great phone, has been for year (well, iOS is getting a little long in the tooth) and they sell a lot, Apple know who are going to buy them. They know how many they need. IMO, this is all about the HYPE.

I second this. I have a Plus pre-ordered for next week but only because I barely missed the 16th date (I had it it my cart, but then when I ordered it slipped to next week). I'm out of town next week so wanted to try my luck at the AT&T store after I heard that Apple Stores didn't have the Plus. I called yesterday and they said they should be getting 100s of all types.

Got in line at 5:30am - 2nd in line. Store manager comes out at 7am and says no Pluses :(

Literally 3/4 of the line left.

Apple is leaving money on the table. Hearing that people came to the Apple/AT&T stores wanting a Plus and buying at 7 is Apple losing out on hundreds of dollars. I understand if people left and went to pre-order online, but people downgraded to a regular 7 since the Pluses weren't in stock - that's losing money!

If this was a calculated move, can someone explain to me why?
I think this definitely a supply issue, which explains not having them in stock on launch day, nor releasing sales figures. Can anyone thing of any other reason?

They said the number doesn't mean anything because they don't have enough iPhones. Translation: They didn't have enough iPhones at launch so their opening weekend sales will be lower and that would hurt the stock.

could be strategic shortage -- not in the sense of creating false demand, but in the sense of adding ambiguity so their stock doesn't take a hit... hmmm....
