Q: What does your new iPhone 7 do?
A: It has a larger camera bump! Also, no headphone jack! Still no SD card slot for expandable memory and the same retina screen resolution!
Q: Why are you still a fanboy?
A:,...

I hope its a 2k screen. 720p in 2016 is such a joke. Yes, we all know the 'retina HD' screen is great, but come on. Retina is just an excuse to cover up the crappy resolution. But when it comes to things like transistors or how many people bought apps in the past 5 years, its all boasting about numbers! Lets hope we hear phil schiller talk about a 2k OLED screen!

Because they would have discovered a higher PPI by now and OLED is next year.

Just because "they" didn't discovered it doesn't mean it won't happen. This is one of the very few leaks of the screen assembly, and the person who leaked the screens doesn't necessarily has checked for this (or even had the equipment to do it, like a microscope). I didn't see any credible leak that prove (or even state) that the screen will have the same PPI.

And the fact that it's still LCD doesn't preclude them upping the PPI this year. An OLED screen is not needed to achieve a 488 PPI resolution.

I would shocked they wouldn't have leaked the higher PPI by now because it could save the iPhone 7 but they are planting it safe again and they are going up against the note 7 this year.

Several other sites reporting on these photos today have been looking at the part upside down and noting that the "bottom" portion of the display appears different with no cutout for the home button, potentially supporting rumors of a flush, Force Touch home button integrated into the front panel.

IMO this is Apple's incremental step before completely removing the physical home button from next year's iPhone 8, integrating the functionality right into the display panel... and take those bezels with you! Good riddance.

The force touch/3D touch home button wouldn't work if it wasn't a separate component!

Yes, lost in translation. Ha. Or, instead, the home button should be connected via a dongle through the lightning port.

there you go! great thinking! better yet they can put it on the watch and get rid of it on the phone altogether. this way you will have to get the watch in order to use your iphone. brilliant!

It's apparently the export model for down under.

Be prepared for an innovative firework! Not only did they remove the headphone jack, but the home button as well - they must be reading our mind over what we really want and need!

If the screen is the same physical size, which is likely, and the pixels are too small too easily discern individual ones, does it really matter if they're "way too small to see" or "way, way, too small to see"? Apple has always been about making changes that actually improve the user experience, rather than simply increasing spec numbers.

On a handheld with a small battery, it make sense why they went with a lower resolution so that the battery doesn't eat up as quickly

My daily driver is a Galaxy S7, considered to have the best display in a smartphone (I guess up until the Note 7 came out) and yes there is a difference (notably more vibrant colours, more crisp due to much higher resolution, true blacks) but to say that a ~750p calibre display is a "joke" isn't entirely fair - the screen itself is still a very solid IPS display and it suffices (plenty of resolution) for the general population...I also have a 6s right now and it looks great...

I agree however, that at the price point Apple is charging for their phones, they very well should have a better display...a their IPS display is still fantastic and one of the best LCD screens around but the phone is 900$ CAD before taxes here, and from that perspective, arguably, the premium price point isn't justified

To be fair, although it doesn't make much sense to the average user to quadruple the resolution on such a small display, a 2k display is noticeably sharper.

An OLED display allows for much more flexibility and power saving features...and, arguably a better user experience as a result

Apple probably wouldn't be switching to OLED next year if they didn't think it was the superior product for the UE

I presume MacRumours mean "tentatively rumoured to be September 7th". Last I heard Apple hasn't officially 'scheduled' anything for September. Please don't be another site that reports rumours as fact.

I doubt I am in the minority, for a few reasons:

First, the majority of the population (at least in the US) lives in cities. In cities, I see people walking or on public transit with headphones everywhere. Even in cities that don't have great public transport, people walk with headphones. I bet that the total number of people-hours spent walking or in public transit with headphones is far greater than the total number of people hours spent listening to bluetooth or in cars.

Second, even though I use my camera daily, I never use it for more than like 3 seconds, 5 seconds tops. Anything longer turns into creepy. However, even listening to one or two song per day already means I use headphones 100x longer.

I'm sort of not following the point of your comment. None of that changes if the 3.5mm jack is removed. People will still be able to use headphones with their iPhone, and some won't even have to buy anything new if they already are happy with the Apple headphones they include in the box since Apple is likely to put anew pair of Lightning headphones in the box.

I don't know if there is any data on this, but I think more people use the headphones than you think.

I use my headphones so much more than my camera. I use the Apple headset for music, and probably 95% of all my phone calls. I hate Bluetooth audio quality and much prefer to use the headset.

But, my wife almost never uses the headset unless she is working out. still, the amount of time spent on the headset is more than the amount of time that she uses the camera.

Good point, I noticed the same. Also, check out how many headsets/headphones you see at a gym.

You may not like Bluetooth audio quality as it presently exists, but you have no idea what improvements Apple is going to introduce in September. Either way, removing the 3.5mm headphone jack should not affect you significant;ly based on how you say you use the phone.

60% of the people I see at gyms are wearing headphones. I'd say at least 40% are wireless, and that number goes up every day. Maybe 20% are wired over the ear, and the rest are wired earbuds, of which well over half are white Apple buds.

I appreciate an improved camera as much as the next guy, but count me among those who use headphones more than the camera.

I don't take pictures everyday but chances are at some point during the day I will feel like listening to music or watching a YouTube video on my phone. I doubt that that I am unique in that regard. I think that many members here (and Apple as well) may be underestimating how sorely a standard headphone jack will be missed.

Again, I don't see how the 3.5mm jack is going to affect the way anyone posting so far is currently using headphones, depending on what headphones they want to use. And in any event I don't see a significant impact.

You're thinking progress and profits. Superb. This way to the Apple board.
