Apple missed an oportunity with lightning port to make it industry standard, because they were charging for using it, weren't they ? Now it's all USB-c , even they have one on ATV4. Shame about that.

The Haptic feedback trackpad on the MacBook Pro is great, I'm dismayed that they could have messed it up on the iPhone. Awaiting more impressions on this with an uneasy feeling.

Likely it just needs getting used too, but the transition to haptic models on the MBP was seamless.
I assume haptic is different when you hold the device in the hand, you tend to feel the feedback with the hand holding the device instead of the finger which operate the button.

I would have liked to have seen this happen too. I don't think the rest of the industry would bite though. Implementing a connector that Apple controls, in whole or in part, would likely be seen as too much of a risk. USB-C was with immature or non-existent when Apple introduced lightning, otherwise I'd agree with the people who say that Apple should just have gone USB-C too.

We are where we are now. I wouldn't argue it's an ideal place to be either.

What involvement did Beats have, if any on those airpods? I highly doubt the inherited Beats engineers were on board with the aesthetics, unless groupthink got a hold of them. Leaving one side with a prolonged stem for voice calls would make more sense, but both looks absolutely ridiculous. I am just really shocked this is the resulting product of a 3 billion dollar acquisition, regardless of whether Beats was in on it or not. It just doesn't look great.

Thanks for the info (though don't know why you're being sarcastic). Still think they look weird, but I'm not the target consumer for them.

It wasn't so much directed at you as much as the many, many people in the thread that seem shocked that microphones don't go entirely in your ear. I didn't mean to offend.

Hmm - from The Verge piece:

Another thing I tried: the new home button, which uses a "taptic engine" to give you physical feedback when you press it — it's pressure sensitive too, so it can tell if you really mean to press it or just tap it. And it's awful. On a MacBook trackpad, you get this uncanny feeling that you're actually hitting a button. On the iPhone, the whole bottom of the phone just sort of "kicks." It's not bad haptics like you remember, with weird vibration, it's just a new kind of bad haptics. It doesn't feel like a button at all. It's a bummer.

Yet in the video he says that it is kinda neat and cool..

I'd say the airpods look very much like a Jony/Apple product. The three Beats variants looked very much like Beats products.

Is it possible for the older phones with the 3.5 port to put the lightning to 3.5 adapter into the lightning port and at the same time put another wired earphone into the 3.5 and have 2 people listen to both at the same time ?

I'm convinced Ive has all but retired and is just sticking around to entertain himself by trolling people with these ridiculous designs.
I've is to busy decorating the new Apple campus. No time to design a new iPhone or Mac

People threw a massive fit when Apple replaced the decade’s old 30 pin connector with lightening. They partially comforted people by saying that is going to now be the port for a long time to come thus screwing themselves out of changing that port out anytime soon.

We'll forgive them if they do it.

Interesting thought experiment, my expectation is that only one output source would work at a time. 3.5 inch splitters are a thing though and only cost a couple of bucks

Check it out. There is (or at least was) an error in the renders (not photos) on the "choose your finish" page that shows the new iPhones as having a symmetric layout with THREE buttons on BOTH the left and right sides.

Ever since the "unapologetically plastic" 5c, the Ive product-design videos just sound like parodies of Ive videos.
He's become his own caricature.
I really dislike those product-design videos of Ive and his voice are giving me goosebumps. Same old same old.

Usually when you have to hook up special adapters for existing equipment it's considered a downgrade.

Do you, by any chance, remember when they way from 30pin to lighting? Was that a downgrade? Or from PS2 (on computers) to USB? Was that a downgrade?

I am not saying I agree with their choice of killing the 3mm, but it does not make it a downgrade because you need an adapter.

My body is ready

for Galaxy S7 Edge ha ha

But seriously.. Fastest chip on a smartphone? Samsung should add Tizen to S7 just to prove how fast Samsung Exynos 8890 really is! Will destroy the iPhone 7 in terms of speed
If you want prove? wait until you see a comparison between Gears S3 vs Apple Watch, the Samsung single core will destroy the dual core from the :apple: Watch, Intel is the king PC cpu while Samsung is the king in mobile CPUs

Icon X is so much better in every aspect than the AirPods and Gear S3 Frontier will destroy the :apple: Watch especially in sales!

I just told my sister who owns a Galaxy S7..look the iPhone 7 just came out and your camera from the S7 it's better than the one from the iPhone 7 xD! I got admit they added some intersting stuff to the camera but when it comes to photo quality..the S7 wins!
Your broken English and “Samsung best!” defensively-deflective praise against Apple reminds me of the pro-Samsung astroturf trolling that was so prevalently-pervasive a few years ago throughout the Internet.

Had a look but can't find the page you're referencing. Link please?

Cool, now the earbuds that don't stay in my ears and always woggle out and dangle from a wire will fall out and land in the prairie, or the river, or the snow, or down the mountain.

No news on the iPad. Whew. No news is good news.
