What involvement did Beats have, if any on those airpods? I highly doubt the inherited Beats engineers were on board with the aesthetics, unless groupthink got a hold of them. Leaving one side with a prolonged stem for voice calls would make more sense, but both looks absolutely ridiculous. I am just really shocked this is the resulting product of a 3 billion dollar acquisition, regardless of whether Beats was in on it or not. It just doesn't look great.

Then you wouldn't get to choose which one to use on its own. And the short one would have far less battery life.

Hmm - from The Verge piece:

Another thing I tried: the new home button, which uses a "taptic engine" to give you physical feedback when you press it — it's pressure sensitive too, so it can tell if you really mean to press it or just tap it. And it's awful. On a MacBook trackpad, you get this uncanny feeling that you're actually hitting a button. On the iPhone, the whole bottom of the phone just sort of "kicks." It's not bad haptics like you remember, with weird vibration, it's just a new kind of bad haptics. It doesn't feel like a button at all. It's a bummer.
Interesting. The taptic engine looked like it was bolted to the back housing. I wonder if it's because the phone itself has so little mass that the whole thing mores and doesn't make the tap feel localized. Curious if they just had a little pin that tapped the back side of the button area if it would feel more natural.

I'm interested in buying wireless earphones with dual mics. Can you link me to some of the many better looking competitors please?
Gladly.....

https://www.getkanoa.com <-dual mics
http://www.bragi.com/theheadphone/ <-dual mics
https://www.earin.com/ <- no mic but looks way better

Might want to check out this article http://www.cnet.com/topics/headphones/best-headphones/
I personally love my V-moda Crossfades. I've had 2 pairs of Jaybirds and lost them both. I'm going to actually try the new bragis, kanoas, and airpods when they all come out and compare them all I think just for science :p

Nope, the S7 and S7 Edge (Exynos version) are actually faster than the iPhone 6s, if you want prove? I will post u some links from YouTube with speed comparison between the S7 and 6s, the Note 7 is slower because of the software I think? and hopefully will be fixed with a software update
If you put an iPhone 7 next to a Note 7 and run a speed test, the Samsung will blow the iPhone away.

Literally.

:D

Sorry... couldn't resist...

Everyone complains about wires and then when you take them away everyone complains about the lack of wires. Weird.

I say bring on the new generation of wireless audio. Those EarPods are just the first generation, just imagine where we'll be in 5 years and there on.

Certainly it won't be the same place as we'd be if we'd carried on using wired headphones, which is pretty much exactly the same place as it was both now, and 40 years ago.

Phil was right, dumping old habits does take courage, and it pays off.

Well said.
First thing I thought of when I read complains from people was this old Steve Jobs video...

Decisions are being made, and it's good.

Cords just get shorts in them and get tangled and they're stupid and smelly.

Smelly? I've never owned a pair of earbuds that smelled like anything. Also never had any that developed shorts -- and I run with mine almost daily. If you treat them nice they'll last a long time. Also a good wired pair sounds better than an even more expensive pair of BT. BT isn't there yet in terms of high fidelity sound. It's just not.

It's nice to know the headphone jack adapter is only $9 by itself. For all of the rumors and hysteria that the adapters could cost $30 or more, I think Apple did a sufficient job today of quelling those fears.

I do wish they'd added a pass-through Lightning port to offer charging and playback simultaneously, however.

Only an Apple fanboy can say something like that. You forget that Apple just removed a feature and made it an option by charging $9 for something that all phones should have out of the box. They just created a new revenue stream and you are applauding. It doesn't matter if it's $30 option, $9 or a 5 cent option. They just purposefully removed a feature and made it an option.

All the foolishness in here. Apple is moving ahead. I keep hearing about S7. You like wired headphones stick with Samsung. They will never lose the headphone jack. With lousy BT connectivity Samsung can't take a chance for another recall, lol...

As strange as it sounds, I bet a lot less people would buy the iPhone 7 if they didn't include a lightning to 3.5mm adapter in the box. It is cool that the adapter only costs $9 though. I was expecting it to be a bit more expensive...

I bought a pair of $300 noise cancelling headsets earlier in the summer. JUST BEFORE Bose released a bluetooth model :( I'll just leave the adapter with the headphones.

Where did I say or imply any of that? ...oh wait.

Right where you said they'd fall out of your ear into Mount Doom or whatever. Since you clearly have no interest in buying them one is forced to assume you think they will be forced on you

Cool, now the earbuds that don't stay in my ears and always woggle out and dangle from a wire will fall out and land in the prairie, or the river, or the snow, or down the mountain

That jet black will look like it lost a fight on a bus full of drag queens on their way to a wig sale within a week.
Folksy.
I have no idea what it means, but there's a response emanating from my brainstem making me want to reply "Yup. Sho 'nuff. More scratches than three cats and a grasshopper, right there.".

In fairness, this was the year that wireless headphone sales overtook wired headphone sales. Apple's new option isn't exactly the only one out there.
What do you mean? I just watched Apple's presentation and I was under the impression they just invented wireless audio.

The guy literally says "Up till now no-one has taken on the challenge to really deliver the audio experience wirelessly between your mobile device and your headphones in a way that takes advantage of the opportunities to do something new".

I guess AptX and NFC pairing never happened?

I'm very disappointed with the way Apple is handling the new iPhone without a headphone jack. The new iPhone 7 and plus should come with the wireless headphones. Why should we have to purchase it separately. That's a Real Bad Apple!!!!

I know they say don't believe everything you read or hear. But I thought this was interesting. One of the "suggested videos" when I looked up AirPods on Youtube.

Try a pair with the aptX codec? I would have said the same thing until I got a pair of really nice Plantronics Pro headphones with both class 1 BT and aptX and I can't go back to wired now. I wish Apple would put class 1 BT chips in the iPhone because it's great being able to wander 300' from the source (my rMBP), without cutting out.
