Different companies have different policies. In my capped vacation hours to 240
because the isheep have nothing else better to do and stand in line for a week for the new iPhone. the isheep have there head so far up apples butt they can't see that apple has not innovated anything since the original iPhone.the iPhone is 5 years behind android phones.android has had wireless charging since at least when the nexus 4 come out and we have fast charging to and bigger batteries and expandable memory and custom roms and displays up to 2k or 4k.

Despite on what you just mentioned, a lot of people still line up to get it. That's really amazing. I have a feeling you are just jealous.

I was kind of surprised people still line up like this, bet those people waiting at the 5th Avenue store hated themselves during the absolute deluge of rain during rush hour tonight. I won't begrudge folks, I won't wait more than 2 hours for any product. Someone I admire yeah I'd tack on a couple of hours but my days of camping out for something are done.

That would be pointless, why sacrifice people playing with units in store, cause apple artificially creates demand. Apple could easily produce 20k extra units, it's the same design 3 years running , if it was a brand new major design, and using components that had manafacturing issues, sure.

Even had they ONLY released the identical model without a home button, they still couldn't have shipped them until they had iOS 10 which enabled the button to work.

I don't quite understand what the year has to do with it but they are lining up the same way they have for every other release.

Because more and more Apple stores are opening up worldwide, which leaves less profits for scalpers/resellers?

I'm sorry, but how would that impact an extra 20k units shipped, so apple stores could keep all thier display units?

Guaranteed that Asian scalpers are going to be a lot if not most of these campers in urban areas.

Doesn't happen anymore... that was only back in the days when it was only a couple countries on launch day... now it's basically a ton of countries, namely China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan, which was where most of the scalped phones were going.

The comment I replied to was someone saying Apple should just make 20k more ... the issue is production as soon as they can... but then you have a hard stop at the point where they put the software on then test it. Has to all come together at the same time.

You asked how people were still lining up in 2016. I'm saying the year has no bearing on whether people enjoy waiting in line or not or if they choose to do so. Also, to answer your question, they are probably going with single file. Usually that's what works.

Years ago waiting in line for concert tickets was sometimes better than the concert itself. I know a handful of Apple enthusiasts but none of them would wait in line for any of the products. But if they did, and I had the time, I'd wait with them whether or not I was actually getting the product - provided it was only for a day or less and in nice weather.

Every person has their own priorities. I'd never camp by myself for any product nowadays but I can see why others would most of the time - I don't get missing Thanksgiving for Black Friday but like I said, different priorities for different people. And I'd never assume they were jobless. Many people work off-days or shifts and I'm sure a good chunk of them just have days off they need to burn so why not.

My point of view is that apple artificially creates the demand , to generate hype, so those units have already been produced. There is no point removing units from stores to meet more orders, it's not a manafacturing issue.

ios 10 is not holding back manafacturing. Apple controls the hardware, software and release dates. They are not installing iOS 10 on these units at the end of the process, cause it launched to the public early this week.

But I thought nobody would be buying it because no headphone jack

The dregs of society who are lining up days ahead of time would buy the phone if it kicked them in the penis every time they got a call, They are Kool aid zealots.

So you think that even thought iOS 10 GM was released just 6 days ago, Apple secretly had iOS 10 ready and was just releasing bi-weekly betas to devs for the fun of it?

Yes, I ASSURE you, Apple likely finalized testing of the device back in June\July, went into test production in early August, and then went into full production end of August, which aligns with not being able to produce enough to keep up with demand for a September 8 scrambled to flash iOS 10 to every one, test, package and ship to get them out to doorsteps on the 16th.

You're missing the entire point here... It's highly unlikely Apple is purposely shorting supply... but rather they can only ramp up production in a 2 week period so much within the confines of the factory. If you knew anything about manufacturing for product launches, you'd understand that factories don't just have empty floor space to create surges in products for what really is a 2-3 week "hot period" without Apple committing to that additional space year-round. That's assuming that there are ZERO delays from suppliers of parts, which we know to be common in the electronics manufacturing industry. But hey, you keep up with your conspiracy theory that Apple is purposely turning away business (while odds are low most people will give up ordering iPhone and go elsewhere, one in a million is one in a million and a lost sale)... but the reality is if you research the process of taking a design to tooling\mold creation\test production\adjustments then into final production, you'd understand a bit better. Google "manufacturing flow" and click images and you'll see what a complex process it is.

That's 40 hours from launch, and say you do make a $200 premium, that means your time to stand in line is worth 5 bux an hour. Really?!?!?! LOL

Who said standing for 40 hours? Where I'm at 5 hours is good enough to get an iPhone. That's $80 an hour.

Can you please tell me where I can stand to buy said phone? And is it adjustable, because I prefer a kick to the nuts over a kick 9.5 inches lower (lol sorry I just had to add the last part for comedy). Thanks!

The guy posted "I could go stand in line now" if it means making $200... which at the time posting it was 40 hours from 8 am friday, or 37 hours if he is EDT, haha

And wait, where are you from that 5 hours to make $200 is $80 an hour? My dumb american math says $200 profit in 5 hours means $40 an hour. LOL...

2 phones at $200 each, $400. I'm assuming there's a 2 device limit per person (although I see I didn't mention 2 phones in my original post).

What about the time it takes to list them on craigslist, and meet a random stranger somewhere? And what's the value of getting shanked? Surely a $50 Emergency Room stitching has to come out of the profit. LOL

With just two days to go until the official launch of the iPhone 7, customers who are hoping to get their hands on one of Apple's devices have started lining up outside of Apple retail locations around the world.

At the 5th Avenue Apple Store in New York, one of Apple's flagship locations, people have been waiting in line for days, saving spots with folding chairs and small one-person tents. Other stores in New York also have short lines at this time, based on photos sent in by MacRumors readers.

At Apple's new San Francisco location, Apple Union Square, a handful of people are already waiting outside for an iPhone 7. People started lining up over the weekend.

At the Summerlin Apple Store in Las Vegas, MacStadium's Brian Stucki set up a webcam to monitor the crowd situation. No one is waiting in line yet, but it should be a fun way to watch how activity progresses over the course of the rest of the week.

Shipping estimates on some of the most popular Black and Jet Black iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models range into several weeks and last until November in some cases, so waiting in line on launch day is the only way to get one of the highly coveted devices if you missed out on pre-orders.

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus launch on Friday, September 16, and will debut first in Australia. It's Thursday morning in the country, so there's just a day to go until people start getting their hands on devices and sharing videos, pictures, and first impressions.
