I would never take a day off to do this but if I was wealthy and had the time it could be fun haha.

I would speculate it's not the "wealthy" that are sitting in $9.99 nylon walmart chairs and tents outside apple stores 2 days before hoping to get lucky and score an iPhone on launch day. But that's pure speculation. LOL

What about the time it takes to list them on craigslist, and meet a random stranger somewhere? And what's the value of getting shanked? Surely a $50 Emergency Room stitching has to come out of the profit. LOL

Get shanked? You've been watching too many movies. 2 minutes to post and wait for people to respond. I get them to come to my work over coffee break or lunch. This is how I've been selling my used iPhones every year (since I upgrade every year and sell my old iPhone). Never had an issue yet.

I'm fine with CL, was more of a joke... I've only been shanked at CL transactions twice, and one was because they were mad they thought the phone was Gold and it was really Rose gold... haha jk jk jk!

What's gonna be so Jesus about it? That it has an OLED screen,
as if you're be able to tell the difference? A couple hours more battery life?

And the other possibilities you didn't mention:

Iris scanner
Edge to edge display
All glass backing
Wireless/long range charging
Home button embedded in display
Camera upgrades
Three sizes-4.7/5.0/5.5
Fully Waterproof
3/4 GB Ram

Camping out is a blast, I did it for the 6 and want to do it again next time I upgrade. You meet tons of people, there is a ton of excitement in the air, and everyone is just happy to be there. Anyone who calls themselves a true Apple fan should try the campout at least once, it's an awesome experience.

Meh, I can think of lots of musical artists I've never felt compelled to see in concert, but that doesn't make me less of a fan of their music. Just sayin'. I agree, though, that this camping out tradition is as much (or more) about the experience than it is the actual iPhones. It's clearly not for everyone, but who am I to judge those who enjoy it.

"Wait - is this not the bread line???" [crowd disperses]

In Boston if you replaced "bread" with "food stamps" it would clear out half the town. LOL... 775k on food stamps in the tiny state of MA... LOL... oh well, 4 million here in CA, but we have more Apple Stores for them all to be lined up in front of.

I always wondered, don't people get worried about catching a cold or something at night? Guess a phone is much more important than u'r health huh....?

I could see this a "must have" save spotting

I bet 95% of these unemployed line waiters are buying the phone with cash to sell either to an arranged buyer or ASAP for a small profit. I doubt many of them are purchasing a phone for themselves.

Apple fans are just like sports fan. They get line to get the product/service they want. Yes everybody knows we can just preorder from the comfort of our bed, but the people who wait in front of the stores do it for the experience. I don't understand how people just gotta be rude to die hard fans.
I personally don't go to the store anymore but I have to say the experience is absolutely amazing. Can't even put it into words. I just choose to not sit out overnight because I know it'll show up via ups every year on launch day.

Interesting. From reading the comments here leading up to the announcement you would've thought hardly anyone was going to be interested in the iPhone 7.

spending two days in line for an iphone and not in work - good chance they don't have a career job.
I have a"career" job in the tech industry, and I can just work from the line. If I had to. I plan on going early on the day of if the line is super short I'll probably stand in line. Otherwise not.
Most people with tech jobs have lots of freedom to work from home or wherever. A long as your work gets done who care where you work from.

Heh I was thinking the same thing but don't all of us human beings do something that someone else would
consider a colossal waste of time? Heh kinda like being an android user and coming to mac rumors to run
down the iPhone....WHy :) but hey it's their life :)
Or posting on Mac Rumors to run down people who wait in line. I still think Apple should do the online reservation thing TBQH.

i like hypotheticals too.

No doubt their actions are ridiculous and embarrassing but let's not sugar coat it.

It's a poor usage of time.
There are many things people do that are a poor usage of time. Don't get too high and mighty. I'm sure we can find things you do that are a poor waste of time.

To be honest, I don't get it either. But, who are we to criticise someone else for doing something they enjoy just because we can't see the point/value. I mean, I'm sure there are people queuing for hours sometimes days for other big occasions like sports or music events.
People wait in line for days when a new Chic-fil-A is about to open just to be one of the first in and score a year of free fried chicken...

I don't understand waiting in lines for days. I mean I'm a huge apple fan and its fun to have the latest stuff but its like... I got work and school. Is this truly the definition of having too much time?
Exactly ~ I don't mind waiting in line for a couple of hours, but for days? Really? No thanks

But that's for a year of free fried chicken... This is for a phone you have to pay for lol

At least you can call a personal trainer on the phone, who the heck eats fried chicken daily for a year? Lol. I don't get it, but I do get the whole waiting in line for ~12hrs for an iPhone. I've done it once or twice myself just for the hell of it... when my work schedule allowed for it. You'd be surprised how many people wait in the lines and aren't even buying a phone!!

If wealthy depending on your how you define it. Would rather pay someone to stand in line.
