I'm rather incensed that the Jet Black is only available in the $100 upgrade 128GB model. This is the most basic color choice and should be available as standard in all models, not as a premium. Based on the Apple Store photos, "Black" is really more gray.

Ordered the black 256GB iPhone 7 Plus just because I knew demand would be higher for the 128GB models. Ship date from Verizon was 9/23 but that appears to be changing as I type. May get lucky tomorrow.

Have had the white font ever since the 4s

With the 7, this is the first time I'm getting an iPhone with a black front (getting jet black)

Will be a nice switch up even though I loved the white fronts

Na, I have a ship date for the Matte Black 256GB for my son on the 23rd, 18 hours after it went on sale. But the 128GB same color at the same time, has a delivery date 10/5

What does the ship date have to do with ranking the popularity of the various capacity levels?

Those getting the 7+ over the 7 for the dual cameras rather than a larger size preference are going to regret it. You can look at the stronger resale market for the 6s vs 6s+ for evidence of this.

I pre-ordered the iPhone 2017, I am still waiting for delivery. Apple should give me a 1000 voucher for the extended wait.

I have the 7 and can confirm the display is beautiful. As high end as the plus? No. but to call it a "disgrace" is a joke.
We respectfully disagree. On a phone that costs $650 in 2016 I think the resolution is a disgrace. I haven't had a less than 1080p display in my home since 2006. The fact that Apple can put such a low resolution display on such a high end phone is a disgrace in my opinion.

If you used the latest Samsung phones, resolution is not the thing I've noticed. That's just marketing hype. It's the deep blacks thanks to the emissive OLED. The contrast ratio makes the UI really pop.
The "deep blacks" are marketing hype as well. As I've pointed out in a few of these threads now, as soon as there's enough ambient light that your cones are active (and you can perceive color in the room), there is enough light reflecting off the S7 cover glass to exceed the black leakage from the iPad Pro 9.7" with backlight at full brightness. The iPP has at least twice the contrast in high ambient light.

The "pop" is their color curve. Samsung's default color mode over saturates by about 30%.

The iPhone 7 is meant to have the iPP display- if it also manages the same low reflectance then the iPhone should have better contrast from daylight to dusk.

It's probably not a night and day difference like going from non-retina to retina. And in the end, it is to each his/her own.
Asking for better specs for the premium price paid is a win/win for all regardless if it's a matter of opinion. Unless people have no problems paying more for less, if that is the case you can donate some money to me for nothing. :p

That's his point why knowingly pay a premium for a display that is no longer considered premium. Can't use that good old "retina" marketing speak touting it as the best. When it is a lower quality display that shouldn't command top dollar. Apple needs to catch up to other companies when it comes to its iPhone displays.
You haven't seen the display yet. How can you make such claims? I'm very curious to see how much of a difference WCG makes. The number of pixels makes a difference when using the phone with a virtual reality device.

I'm very surprised by how unpopular silver is. It's the most attractive white-front phone by leaps and bounds, IMO.

If these numbers are anywhere close to actual numbers, about 70% black front and 30% white front, it helps next year's iPhone switching to OLED screen.

Because black uses practically zero energy on OLED, iOS 11 may finally gain dark mode. White front iPhones would look odd with UI optimized for black background.

Asking for the premium specs without accounting for the inevitable tradeoff is going to be a lose/lose unless you value that one spec to the exclusion of all else.

I kinda expected it. When people buy a new model phone and the basic design isn't conspicuously different than the previous model then the next best way to differentiate it (to yourself and others) is by having a color unique to the new model.

This goes a long way in explaining the shortages of iPhone 7 Plus. I don't think even Apple predicted that the Plus would be more popular than the non-Plus.
Sadly Apple wasn't able to afford to research the market, conduct focus groups, or poll customers beforehand to get an idea of demand.

A fledgling company struggling to make a profit, one day Apple hopes to be able to afford those kinds of preparations.

So they just guessed at how many of each model to build.
