Did you just tighten - or loosen and then tighten? Did you press a bit down on the glass as you tightened them? Also, was it both screws that you did?
I just tightened both of them, no pressing down or anything. I was surprised at how easy they were to turn.

Thanks. Will give this a shot. Hopefully they'll be easy to turn on mine too, I'd be scared to apply much force. There's no way this would void the warranty, I hope, if done carefully so as not to strip the screws. Can't imagine they'd be able to determine if someone did this or not.

I have a jet black 7 plus, it was making very loud cracks I brought it to apple and had them replace my screen, my phone feels more solid and has absolutely no sound. Same thing happened with my moms 7 plus, got her screen repaired and no creaks.

I'm glad you found a good solution. I'm definitely not getting my screen replaced though. It's perfect, and I went through quite a few units to get this one. My screwdriver should be here by Friday and I'll post the results.

For those who have stated earlier that loosening or tightening their screws worked for them, how has it held up over time now that it's been a while? I know some stated earlier the click returned, but some were adamant that theirs did not- so that's who I'd like to hear from. Was it a permanent fix to mess with the screws?

I ask because my new 7 plus' bottom right corner clicks a bit when pressed after I have it in my pocket during the day. Sometimes it resolves itself until the next day and other times not. The phone is perfect otherwise (took many tries to get a perfect screen), so I'm keeping it since it seems like a widespread issue despite my previous post, but I don't want to attempt the screw fix unless it's been a long term solution.

I tightened mine and it stopped. 3 months later it came back. I ended up taking it to Apple and they just gave me a replacement. 2 months later it exhibited the same creaking on different parts of the phone. Went back to Apple and they told me it's the last replacement they can do for me and most likely its just the way the phone is designed. And that the creaking is most likely normal.

I ended up selling it and went with a different phone. The creaking got so bad that I can hear it when using 3D touch and taking in and out of the case.

Damn. This is what I'm afraid of. I guess worst comes to worst if the same thing happens to me I'll deal with it until this year's iPhone comes out and maybe try one of those. Problem is, it took me many tries to get a perfect screen and don't want to go through all of that again with the new phone. I love my phone otherwise :( Sorry you had to jump through hoops like that.

I really wonder what the cause of this is- my theory is that the thin watertight adhesive seal is just impossible to apply perfectly evenly and so slight intolerances in the way the glass rests on the body from that are exacerbated by everyday use of the phone in the pocket, etc. If you look at the iFixit tear down guide you will see that the adhesive is like a thin strand of rubber that looks like strings when they remove the glass from the phone's body.

Yeah. It's too bad. Great phone otherwise.

I agree with your theory. I also think when it's in your pocket or heat produced from the phone, it softens up the adhesive so it becomes less tolerant as you stated which then causes it to creak. I dunno. It sucks when the people at the Apple Genius Bar tells you that's just the way the phone is suppose to be. Oh well.

I don't think it's got anything to do with the seal on the phone. I've had iPhones do this since at least the iPhone 5.

I've also had iPads do the same thing!

True, I've also had an iPad do something similar, but then again, they all use adhesives don't they? It seems much more prevalent on the 7 series than other devices, hence that theory.

Just keep tightening when the noise comes back? I would never have the screen replaced or even let go of my iphone due to something that is bound to happen. Every body should be aware now that it's never a flaw with your device per se, but rather a design one. Also most iphone issues cant be so easily fixed by consumers, so while apple doesn't improve their QC or spend more time testing their devices, all we can do is enjoy the phone.

Had the same issue with my jet black 7 plus. But my 7 plus also had a display issue and apple replaced it yesterday and on my new one I don't have any noises

Haha I moved it a bit in the other direction and it did it. Right after I posted that
Mine started off with no issues except clicking a bit when slightly twisted- which don't care about because I am not in the habit of twisting my phone. However, it soon started clicking when pressed in the lower right corner, then the screen in the lower right, and now also above the home button and a bit to the left. I guess regular use has made it worse. Hoping the screwdriver takes care of it. Hope yours doesn't get worse.

That's what my original phone did. It's slightly annoying I do use my phone without a case and it's much easier to replicate vs when I have the case on it can't do it

:DSo it always turns out
I guess so lol

if the phone creaks when you intentionally twist it then thats not an issue.

When I first got my 7 Plus it would creak during routine things like reaching to hit the home button or a different part of the screen.
After I tightened the screws its fine except when you intentionally twist it which is not normal use.

So, finally got a P2 screwdriver. Figured I'd give it a shot even though I'm probably going to return the phone for haptic feedback irregularities.

Screws seemed to be reasonably tight, so I loosened them - clicking still there. I retightened them while also putting a bit of pressure on the screen - clicking still there. Loosened them again and tightened without putting pressure on the screen - clicking only present while gently twisting the phone.

I'd say that's a pretty good result, but I'm afraid with time the issue will creep back up and required some more of this again. I don't know how sturdy the screws are, so it's debatable how much adjustment over time they can handle before becoming stripped.

There was a point that my heart sank because, since I don't have the most steady hands when doing things like this, the screwdriver tip missed the screw head and brushed against the aluminum (matte black). Luckily nothing to show for it.

Wondering if the random irregularity in home button haptic feedback will be resolved now that everything is a bit tighter screwed together.

Same problem with my iphone 7 plus ... it's almost new and this sound annoys me ... tell me what can we do about it

Hi all guys above,

Thanks to someone suggesting fixing the problem by tightening screws, it really works. I tried tightening 2 bottom screws yesterday and the clicking sound disappeared completely. I am not sure if it come back in the future or not but I am happy with the result now.

P/S I am using a matte back 7 plus.

I haven't read this entire thread but can someone please let me know if this issue is common in the iPhone 7 too or just the 7 plus? Thanks
