Agreed. I had this happen on a previous iPhone and I tried to live with it, which it annoyed me greatly. Apple eventually replaced the iPhone for me.
My iPhone 5 had loose volume buttons, a rattling mute switch and a loose power button. I lived with it but paying so much money for a supposedly premium product that irritated the hell out of me taught me a lesson that I'm ridiculed for in certain threads....I will never again accept a loose button, a dodgy screen or any fault whatsoever when it comes to build quality.
A creaking £750 phone? Nope.

I would return it as well. And I also wouldn't take to heart any ridiculing on here. It's your iPhone, which you payed for. You have the option of choosing to do with it as you see fit. I'm with you.

I had to have a repair on my camera as I had dust in it, they said they would take the phone apart and clean it.

I was concerned about the water resistance, the genius told me that they have a machine that re seals them.

The machine has a timer.... when I went back in to pick it up.. they gave me a estimated time of 11min 22 seconds.

My 6S makes a very sharp creak when pressure is applied to the centre of the rear. It's an immediatly reproducible creak too. Seems like this is a common issue with the 6, 6S and 7 line, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm not worried about it, but when I buy $1200 phone I expect it to be rock solid without "build quality" issues... =[
By the way, my 6 plus also suffered from similar issue (on other pressure points) so I tend to agree with you about the assumption that it isn't a problem.

I just came back from our local distributor. The 7 plus black in the store is making the same clicks while the silver one is solid...

My iphone 7 plus matte black started to creak and click 2 weeks in and it has gotten to the point where I would hear it creak when I press the home button (or lack of button). I noticed the temp sensitive thing as well (creak more when warm, less when cold). Long story short, got a replacement and it did the same thing so I decided wasn't worth trying the lottery system and decided to give the screws a shot.

Just tightened the screws on the bottom like people have mentioned and solved my issue completely. No creaking or clicking even under lightly pressured twist. I didn't want to strip them as they were so tiny. I tightened in small increments and tested as I went along. I noticed there was definitely less flex to the phone as I tightened. Had to tighten to the point where I felt uncomfortable to tighten any further and creaking and clicking was completely gone. Perform at your own risk and be extra careful. Hope this helps as I was pretty frustrated before (more than I thought). Happy camper now. Good luck!
Hey has the creaking gone away completly still ever since you did that? I'm possibly looking to buy the pentalobe screwdriver.

Could you link the pentalobe screwdriver you bought for the iPhone 7

Just to weigh in on this topic...

I had the same issue of creaking/cracking appear. Had the phone since one week after launch and hadn't noticed it, so it must be a developing fault. It had started to really irritate me over the last week or so, which is why I ended up finding this thread.

Decided to give the screw tightening solution a go, and low and behold, it worked immediately.

The screws weren't in at all tight, and the clicking was fixed with even the first couple of rotations. I tightened them a little more because there was very little resistance.

Creaking has stopped entirely.

These screws are absolutely tiny and one slip would probably shred the head, so be careful. Put the screwdriver in straight, apply a bit of pressure and then turn slowly.

Now I just have to live with the rattling earpiece...

Thanks to everyone who recommended this fix, and for those wondering, here's the tool (set) I purchased:

Hey, thanks for your fixing suggestion. I will try it. But what do you mean with "the rattling earpiece"? Another problem with your iPhone? Or screws tightening causes it?

Well, big surprise my JB plus has it too. I haven't tried flexing, but here is my story:

If I squeeze top/bottom (lower left corner), totally quiet; if I hold the phone normal (say cradled), then press on lower left I get a slight click - about 50% of the time.

So guess I'm happy that nowhere else does it click. And damn, on a positive note: I haven't obsessed about micro scratches with this little gem of the latest iPhone OCD issues!

Does the clicking warrant immediate replacement at an Apple Store? Or will they give me a hard time?

I thought I could put up with my clicking Gold 7+ but it's starting to bug me. I'd like a replacement, but not worth it to me if they're going to make me jump through hoops.

Interested in this as well. I have a JB 128gb 7+ that I have been trying to use for a few months but I am annoyed aF now

So I had my case off to clean it, and noticed that my touches on the screen (3D force level of pressure) are worse when the case was off - mostly lower part of the screen - very tiny clicks.

My 6s never had this, nor my 7 non plus. Most 5's and 6's however did. Ugh wish they'd get this resolved! Like others not gonna do the roulette since everything else is great! Even considered selling it and buying another 7 non plus but it'd end up costing me like 250 bucks, what with TMO's down pmt, new case and new screen protector.

I have my pentalobe on order.

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem that I'm having. I have a 7 plus in black and everything about is perfect except whenever the phone is put under any amount of flex (from lifting it up or just holding it with two hands) the phone makes a slight creaking sound that sounds like something is loose (not a bending sound). The smallest amount of flex from everyday use causes the left side to make that sound which is quite audible. Another example is when I'm holding it with two hands, and press the top left and bottom right portions of the screen at the same time, it makes a slight click. Again, I'm not bending it or trying to bend it in any way. It's really annoying... I would love to exchange it for another one, but all of the apples stores within a 50 miles radius of me are completely out of stock.
I am having the same problem with my phone as well! The clicking noise happens for me when I use my phone for everyday use, and even when I put the phone up to my ear when I make a phone call. It seems like the slightest bit of pressure on the phone causes it to make the creaking noise. I really hope I will be able to use my warranty, especially now that this is a common issue. I am 100% going to print out this thread to show the apple store what a serious issue this really is.

So after I thought tightening the pentalobe screws would do the trick, the clicking eventually came back. It got so annoying I took it to Apple and they said it's caused by the screen not being seated properly on the frame. So they said they will re-seal it or whatever and it'll take 2 hours. Got the phone back and clicking was gone. Unfortunately, my 3D Touch didn't work anymore after the fix. Went back again and they ended up giving me a new phone. Now the new one does not have any clicking at all.

Crossing my fingers...
