People who are getting great battery life sure not watching YouTube
The first week i had my 7+ i tried to find out what app's were draining the battery, because it seemed to drain quickly.
Your right about YouTube, video on FB, and 4K video really drain the battery.
I now occasionally get on YouTube with my 7+, usually use FB, but unless i'm going to keep a 4K video i change to 720P. I don't need to see notification's on a locked screen every minute of the day, which also uses a lot of the battery, so i turned that off.
There are trade off's using any iPhone. I find myself using the 6s+ and 7+ more, and my iMac or macbook air less. But when i know an app drains the power i set it down, and choose one of the other's. I know when i go to YouTube i'm going to be there for awhile, so why use my cell.

I've been getting 8h average of usage time on my 7 Plus, but I am still on my first days. I will give it a week to see if battery improves

I'm about where you are. Standby is fantastic but actual usage seems much less than others.

Guys is it possible that people who are getting drain over night or in standby that it could be emails sync with the iCloud or iCloud drive from the lock screen and also could notifications be causing the lockscreen widgets to update and also sync with iCloud or iCloud drive, if you press home button from off without going into homescreen you'll see the GPS at top so it's updating the widgets, as I'm writing this i also notice the phone getting hot and using more than usual battery using SwiftKey, lol.

What app you use for YouTube because if I watch from YouTube app I drain 1 percent every 3 minutes
thats not normal if it drains that quick. granted if you have brightness to max that might be plausible. i use standard youtube app.

i´ll give it a try. deleted icloud e-mail and switched off all widgets. will check during the night if this worked

I don't use icloud mail. Or lockscreen widgets. Phone also goes into DND mode so no alerts. Still crappy battery.

Do you think restoring from backups affects battery life at all?
No. Not unless you have battery-draining issues in your backup that are carried over to the new device.

It is a myth that restoring from backup is in anyway inherently bad, and its also a myth battery life issues are just part of the firmware. There is always a reason. And turning off critical services is never the answer.

It is not uncommon for certain Apps or services to run amok and consume battery when the device is asleep. It is just difficult and time consuming to narrow in on the offender and fix it...which most people don't bother doing, so they assume they need to do absurd things like turning off location services or push to save battery.

I hope it's a rogue app. However I run the exact same apps, the exact settings, etc. as my iphone 6s plus and battery life is vastly different. Could be hardware. Could be ios9 vs ios10. And it could be an app not updated for ios10. Nearly impossible to track down thus far.

 I don't think I'll see battery life on any phone I'll ever own (until technology changes at least.)
Not that I'd complain in the slightest if I did, but I use mine too much to ever get that.

What do your standby vs. usage numbers look like at the end of a 100-10 drain?

bad recommendations..

People on here say they use their phones a lot they don't. When I see their pictures of usage they never watch videos and never above 5% usage with apps.

The iPhone 7 Plus has excellent battery life. But OP apparently didn't use his phone that much. I don't see any 3rd party apps at all. No wonder it yields a crazy battery time

People on here don't represent the public on they use there phones. People barley use their phones on here and say they get amazing battery life lol

Finally it seems like the 7 Plus can match the standby time if my 6s Plus. For the first week it seemed a little poorer but looks like all is well and settled now.

Exactly. I thought there was something wrong with my 6+ two years ago as I read report after report here of people getting two days of battery life. I was getting mine off the charger in the morning and killing it by dinner time on many days

Outside of my work laptop, my iPhone is my computing and content consumption device. On an average day, I do work on it (emails, word processing), watch videos, do all of my web surfing and play games *on top of* all the "normal phone" stuff like texts, calls, etc.

Unless I'm sick or on vacation, there's no way I could even approach the kind of battery life the OP gets, but everyone's use case is different. It's pretty awesome that we have devices that fit them all. :)

I went from a 6s that couldn't make it through a whole day without charging now I have a 7+ and I can't believe how could the battery life is. Even on low power mode my 6s would still die, my 7+ last all day without even being put on low power mode.

There's obviously a degree of that involved with anything. What one person considers a lot, probably isn't to another.

My single biggest percentage of use is usually Safari, followed by whatever app I'm currently developing. Those both would normally get a few hours a day each. Then there's all the usual nonsense in decreasing amounts.

I'm definitely curious to see how the 7 Plus pans out. I would normally have to do a bit of a top up at least once a day (obviously excluding the full charge overnight) so if the 7 makes it a day without a top up I'll be more than surprised. We'll see what happens once it's had a good few days of use.

I've been using auto brightness, but that will probably end up getting ditched. It's good at times but sometimes it's just too bright. Or brighter than it needs to be anyway.

Well...the issue turned out to be an embarrassingly simple one. I'm not sure what the sides of the tray are made of......it just feels like a really thin plastic or cardboard covered in a material......but whatever it is, it's excellent at blocking wifi.

Turning the phone around was enough to raise the wifi antenna above the side of the tray, and stop the excessive usage during standby. I hadn't even considered it being a wifi issue, as the phone was sat literally (yep...I'm using the word correctly) 3 feet from my Airport extreme when it was having problems, yet it didn't have a problem when it was sitting several rooms away with a few walls in between. Also, when placed in the same spot where my 7 plus has an issue, the wife's 6s does not.

As an extra test, I turned wifi off, and placed the phone in the position that was causing the problem. It built up no more than 3-4 mins of use per hour of standby.

Really, if wifi can affect the usage that much, then it should be logged and labelled in the battery usage screen.

I noticed the other day that when my 7 plus is laid on my desk, it builds up around 4 mins of usage every hour, even when not in use. This is also what I get through the night when the phone is laid next to my bed.

However, when I have the phone next to me whilst watching TV, it builds up around 20mins, and as much as 40mins of usage when in standby.

When I'm sat watching TV, I put my phone with the remotes on an armrest tray. According to the phones compass app, this puts it at a 22 degree angle.

Anyway, I had some time tonight, so I did some testing. First I placed it how I normally do for an hour, then turned it 180 degrees, so it was at the same angle, but upside down with the screen still facing up, and left it for an hour.

I did this a few times, and the results were consistent.

When angled in the normal orientation, the phone shows 20-40mins usage when in standby. When angled with the screen upside down, it uses 4-5 mins per hour of standby.

I'm guessing the angle is messing with the raise to wake feature. Can't think what else it might be.

I will turn raise to wake off tomorrow just to test, but it's a feature I like, so I won't leave it off. I just need to learn how to put the phone down, as clearly I'm putting it down wrong :)
