Just tried the same tests today with "raise to wake off", and got the same results, so it would seem that isn't the cause.

A little stumped by this one!

I noticed the other day that when my 7 plus is laid on my desk, it builds up around 4 mins of usage every hour, even when not in use. This is also what I get through the night when the phone is laid next to my bed.

However, when I have the phone next to me whilst watching TV, it builds up around 20mins, and as much as 40mins of usage when in standby.

When I'm sat watching TV, I put my phone with the remotes on an armrest tray. According to the phones compass app, this puts it at a 22 degree angle.

Anyway, I had some time tonight, so I did some testing. First I placed it how I normally do for an hour, then turned it 180 degrees, so it was at the same angle, but upside down with the screen still facing up, and left it for an hour.

I did this a few times, and the results were consistent.

When angled in the normal orientation, the phone shows 20-40mins usage when in standby. When angled with the screen upside down, it uses 4-5 mins per hour of standby.

I'm guessing the angle is messing with the raise to wake feature. Can't think what else it might be.

I will turn raise to wake off tomorrow just to test, but it's a feature I like, so I won't leave it off. I just need to learn how to put the phone down, as clearly I'm putting it down wrong :)

View attachment 661851 In 4 days I the lock screen used 2,5 hours of battery life. This doesn't look normal. Any suggestions what can be going wrong?
I looked down at my iPhone a few days ago, and noticed that the screen was on even though I'd locked it when I put it down. It was as dim as it could be, and barely visible, but it was on. I left it a minute to see if it went off by itself, but it didn't.

I also showed 17 mins of lock screen time which was unusual. Maybe a software issue keeping the screen on sometimes when it shouldn't.

That kind of battery life is stunning. If however you have great signal at home and barely leave the house I guess you can get battery life like this. I couldn’t but if I left my phone on the side and used just my ipad I reckon 30-40 hours is certainly doable. However I’m rarely at home this much. I just get too many notifications to ever get anything more than 25-30 hours standby.

my 7 had 50+ hours standby, 8+ hours of usage with 15% left. I streamed a 2hr 30 min movie to an apple TV and was in some rural areas with weak signal. These batteries are amazing, IMO

Today is my first full day with my 7+. I'm anxious to see how the battery does. I'll post on here tonight when I plug it in to go to bed to let y'all know how it does.

Am really impressed with mine. I upgraded from 6s to 7+ and see a huge difference.

Am used to charging every night but a couple of times in the last week I have gone nearly 2 days without charging (essentially removing from charge at 7am and not putting back on charge until 11pm the following day) . Am not aware of using the phone any less than previously.

What does seem to drain my battery (and did on the 6s too) is the Hipstamatic camera app but I like that so not going to

Me too. Overnight is the best - I only drop 1-2% so I don't have to worry about charging it at night. Lovely!

This is light to medium use. Getting better once you really calibrate the battery, meaning a couple of full charged

Please tell me what you consider to be not "very, very lightly used"?

Using the phone throughout the day for various tasks with battery implications, outside of opening up safari every once in a while to check a web site. The original poster's battery life is indicative of a phone that spent the majority of its time with the screen off throughout the standby period, and when it was turned on, it was for very very light tasks. Don't get me wrong, the life is great, but is not a great representation of what most members of this forum will get due to heavier usage.

I'll post mine at the end of the day if I remember.

I've been a bit disappointed with mine so far. But my work day consists of driving in and out of poor signal areas all day. Listening to audio via Bluetooth in my work van on and off all day, plus my actual general usage. So my battery life always suffers (usually had to recharge my non plus iPhone by late morning most days. The Plus at least gets to the end of my work day without needing a charge).

I have a few days off work now so I'm interested to see how the battery life fairs when I'm in and around home where I have wifi and a stable signal.

(I'm also slightly addicted to Pokemon Go still which isn't helping!!)

Play some Pokemon Go and that battery will get eaten up fast! :D

People still use Hipstamatic?

This 19 hr life is only possible if the brightness is set to minimum. With battery set at 50% I can't see how it can go more than about 10-11 hours (screen on time)

Battery life was set to automatic, although I was mainly using it at night so it would have gone lower. I was connected to an Apple Watch the whole time so most of my interactions during the day were done on that. I don't really use apps beyond what is already installed on the phone as I have no need for them, and that is the single biggest secret to having a good battery life.

I get around 9 hours with roughly 40-50% brightness. My iPhone 6 Plus has lost a lot of longevity recently with it lasting only around6 hours.

It depends how much you use it of course.

But yeh moving from a 6S Im shocked how good the Plus battery is. I was charging my 6S overnight and then by 3-4pm it was already down to 30-40%.

I MAYBE hit 30-40% around midnight now on the 7 Plus.

I understand if you have no need or desire to use the apps but I wouldn't stop using my phone in the way I like to just to save battery power. Otherwise I feel I have wasted my money buying the phone in the first place.

Oh yeah, I gave up social media because it was consuming my life (which has now significantly improved as a result) and don't play games on my phone as I have a PS4, my uses don't extend beyond the stock apps. To be honest as long as the phone lasts a full day that's good enough for me!
