I noticed the other day that when my 7 plus is laid on my desk, it builds up around 4 mins of usage every hour, even when not in use. This is also what I get through the night when the phone is laid next to my bed.
However, when I have the phone next to me whilst watching TV, it builds up around 20mins, and as much as 40mins of usage when in standby.
When I'm sat watching TV, I put my phone with the remotes on an armrest tray. According to the phones compass app, this puts it at a 22 degree angle.
Anyway, I had some time tonight, so I did some testing. First I placed it how I normally do for an hour, then turned it 180 degrees, so it was at the same angle, but upside down with the screen still facing up, and left it for an hour.
I did this a few times, and the results were consistent.
When angled in the normal orientation, the phone shows 20-40mins usage when in standby. When angled with the screen upside down, it uses 4-5 mins per hour of standby.
I'm guessing the angle is messing with the raise to wake feature. Can't think what else it might be.
I will turn raise to wake off tomorrow just to test, but it's a feature I like, so I won't leave it off. I just need to learn how to put the phone down, as clearly I'm putting it down wrong
