I owned an S1. I know what your talking about when you say half baked. Though they've improved, enough to outpace Apple. I picked Apple because its more reliable, but if Google and Samsung are pushing out new phones that are outpacing innovation at Apple... that is a little sad. People are already moving away from the Apple brad judging by these numbers, and people are already voting with their wallets to choose Android over iOS. The iPhones have been a success, but Apple needs to step it up if they don't want to see a world where the world is mostly Android.

I do think that the S6 and S7 have a good design, they are the best looking Samsung phones I've seen also the Note series has always been an interest to me along with the SPen, but Andriod and Touchwiz is what puts me off. The iPhone is more reliable, at least in my experience. I don't think Apple are "doomed" tho, Apple themselves have said that more Andriod users are switching to iPhone.

I think everything is important, not just hardware. Looking at Android, they've had multiple design refreshes that are looking better and better. With Apple, we just saw the one big change.
Of course looking over 10 phone manufacturers vs one phone manufacturer skews the picture.

I was listening to the radio today and the non-techie lady on the radio said she loves her iphone and there are two features that would make her buy a new one. Unbreakable screen and longer battery life. I have the feeling that the average person feels the exact same way. I also feel like the battery issue would be so easy for them to solve especially because the phone doesn't need to be faster since the OS isn't heavy enough to test the speeds they have now, I mean the A9 is likely much faster than a core 2 duo macbook which runs a far more complex OS with no issues.

One of her partners said that he wanted it to be waterproof. I have the feeling Apple will hit two out of the three on this revision. Waterproof and longer battery life and the public will still buy regardless of if it looks the same.

Then the next time they change the form factor it will be to make it unbreakable "glass" on both sides

I use my phone outdoors often. I have gone through many terrible cases to achieve a useable phone with weather resistant capabilities. I really don't care about anything else except for increased "weather resistance." I loathe the cases and take it off the first chance i get. I know that I am more of a minority in that respect and I really wish I liked Android more because all the features I want are already offered by other vendors. However, I just cannot tolerate Android. I have to use it daily for my work device and it really is a night and day difference in the ease of use between the two.

If losing the headphone jack is a trade-off for better durability in liquid & dust, I say - good riddance, headphone jack!

Those that are excited about the improvement of having their 3.5mm audio jack removed don't need to wait for the iPhone 7. A small quantity of gorilla glue applied directly into your headphone socket will give you a quality upgraded phone in one easy step.

I'm sorry but am I missing something? These are speakers ...

And this is the front ... I still dont see the two holes that are on the top side of the alleged new iPhone on the drawing ....

There are two sensors, you can't see them unless you are carefully looking at the device, I have an iPad Pro 9.7 and I noticed them by accident :)
anyway look at this photo from iFixIt and see what I'm talking about, inside view can help:

Schematics featuring the dual-camera 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus or "Pro" that's set to launch in the fall of 2016 have been published in the June issue of Japanese magazine MacFan, reiterating many of the design details that have been previously rumored for the device.

Japanese site Mac Otakara has shared images taken from MacFan, which seemingly confirm rumors that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will use largely the same design as the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

The schematic focuses solely on the 5.5-inch model, which MacFan says will measure in at 158.22mm x 77.94mm x 7.3mm, identical to the dimensions of the iPhone 6s Plus.

macfaniphone7plus.jpg

While this agrees with a previous Mac Otakara rumor suggesting the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will not be significantly thinner, it does disagree with other rumors (including one from Ming-Chi Kuo) that have pointed towards a thinner chassis that approaches the thinness of the 6.1mm iPod touch. While it is not yet clear which design rumor will prevail, the most recent rumors are converging around a thicker body.

Also depicted in the schematic is the dual camera setup that's rumored for the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, a Smart Connector, and the absence of a headphone jack. Apple is planning to remove the headphone jack in its 2016 devices, with headphones instead connecting via Lightning or Bluetooth. Though some rumors have suggested the iPhone 7 will include stereo speakers, the design drawing features a single speaker. No other significant details are included in the MacFan drawing.

In the past, MacFan has offered up accurate information about Apple's devices, sharing design details of the iPhone 6/6 Plus and 12.9-inch iPad Pro ahead of launch. While largely accurate because its schematics often focus on previously available rumors, MacFan does not always provide a reliable picture of exact dimensions, predicting a 12.2-inch size for the iPad Pro and a 6.7mm thickness for the iPhone 6 Plus, so some of the detail on thickness could be inaccurate.

Apple is expected to debut the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the fall of 2016.

That is a horrible excuse. It's not about taking time to implement features, its about taking time to implement the right features. The right features are the ones that consumers want and/or Apple decides that makes their product a hit.

If the quality of what Samsung puts out the door are just for the sake of "being first" and not "getting it right", then we should see less people buying Samsung phones compared to Apple (like first Galaxy Gear for example has nothing quality against the Apple watch).

Clearly Samsung took the time to get the Galaxy S7 Edge right, Apple should be prioritizing on the right features to keep above the rest. Of course there is always more than priorities and time, but clearly this is a win for companies like Samsung that have clearly succeeded in their innovation and execution 2016 thus far.

Apple needs to get back up there above the rest, I know they can. They started this whole thing with the iPhone after all.
No, i can see Samsung bringing an all glass , without metal frame s8 next year. Just because there are rumors Apple will with the iPhone 7s/8.

And how much s7 does Samsung exactly sell? We don' t know. But they sure aren' t selling 10 million of their top model on opening weekend, like the iPhones. They sell 10 million in of their top model in the first month, at most.
It is way easier to manufacture 10 million for the first month, so it is easier to take bigger risks, and accept /adjust to production yields with 10 million in the first month , instead of the first 2 days at launch.
That is the difference between apple and Samsung.
That is why Apple will introduce a iPhone pro, to put in more high tech, without taking to much risk that they can' t deliver and pave the way for adding these features in the next regular iPhone (non pro) without taking too much risks .

About wireless charging.
Apple will release a real cordless charging method. But I can' t see this happening this year. That is a shame, knowing Apple they will release a mat charging option through smart connector this year. So no true wireless charging this year. I hope Apple won' t call this a feature , because it is indeed catching up.
They should only get cocky when they introduce a real wireless solution in the next 2 years....

This is evidence that "Think Different" is still Apple's modus operandi...

(Reminds me of Blackadder before another charge out of the trenches in WW1...)

Doing precisely what we have done eighteen times before is exactly the last thing they'll expect us to do this time!
There is however one small problem.

The first comment on this thread that i agree 100% with! I like the current design, yea the antenna bands could be moved and i would be happy with that. But for me it's about the features and what the device can do, the dual camera feature would be worth the upgrade in my opinion. I think the specs will as you say "kick butt" also we probably don't know everything about the iPhone 7 anyway, there are probably more features that we just haven't seen leak yet.

IOS 10 could be a big one as well with it being IOS 10.

I agree, about specs.

When is the 10th anniversary of the phone, and OS? I'm thinking that it may make more sense for a 10th anniversary iOS and hardware edition though?

It was 2007, so altho it's IOS 10 this year it's not actually the 10th year! but maybe they will still do something or they could wait until next years anniversary and IOS 11, at this point I'm only speculating.

Software is why I will always stick with Apple still like android though Hense buying the S7 edge

Choice is always good

I agree with what you say about the software, Apple have much better updates. Over the years i have been tempted to get a Samsung Galaxy Note with the SPen, it looks very productive, but Android has always put me off, i suppose i could get one as well as an iPhone but having 2 phones may be a little overkill

Choice is good. I've tried Android and I liked the phones I had briefly due to the features Samsung packed into them (S6 Edge plus and S7), but Android is a mess compared to iOS. I couldn't stay with either phone for more than 2 weeks. It kills me that Apple makes great phones but is still behind in specs. No reason they can't be cutting edge in software AND hardware/design.

If true, likely just skip the 7 generation all together. 6S+ does everything needed for the foreseeable future.

Apple you need to get back to reaching hard for insanely great in gen 8.

Suppose depends what you use it for. My iPhone will be my daily driver where I will have as my normal number so will be used mainly for

iMessage
Podcasts
FaceTime
General email

While will use my S7 edge for news widgets, photos, true multitasking, watching films, TV, Live sport as there are better options on there like mobdro

i use my iPhone for nearly everything, Apple Music, email, phone calls, text message, social media, taking picture and video and playing the occasional game. I would include Youtube in that but i use that a lot more on my iPad Pro just lately.

Are you trying to say the the current Samsung fast wireless charging where you simply place you handset on a charging plate and it charges super fast is a gimmick? You sir have lost all credibility as a poster.

Yep. Its ridiculous. And worthless. Charging mat? Are you kidding me? LMAO.
[doublepost=1461942818][/doublepost]
What's a gimmick here exactly? Would love to hear this

Apple making it will make it the real deal I'm sure, right?

I'm an apple guy that has all Apple products par one bit that doesn't mean Apple are perfect and right now they need to step up their game as comp is great

Waiting till 2017 for stuff android has had for a while is wrong. Hopefully wireless charging and waterproof phone comes with the 7. It needs something

Two words for you.

Charging. Mat.

I had a dream today – Pet Shop Boys wrote a rather boring classical piece with changing time signatures, called "What Do You Want Ive, Go Somewhere Else". That pretty much sums up my feelings about iPhone design in the last two years.

I still can't believe they would decide to release pretty much the same phone this year and change the design for 10th anniversary. They have to put something into it that will make people update from iPhone 6. And removing the headphones jack is not that something.

Providing a water proof phone, hi-def audio, Bigger battery, 1080 display, 3dt2, plus who knows what is that something.

iphone dear, I'm sorry but you've taken this anorexia thing too far. Please just get rid your bezels- is that too much to ask?

I think they're going to push for high resolution music, and dumping the headphone jack and introducing a new method of listening to it, is part of their goal.

I would be sadly disappointed to see Apple peddling this kind of snake oil. Phil Schiller may well get up on stage and use words like "hi-res audio" to justify dumping the headphone jack, but here's the reality of it:

1) "Hi-res" audio is indistinguishable to humans from traditional red-book CD, 44/16 (dithered) FLAC: https://xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html
2) You're going to have to buy new wireless or lightning-enabled Beats headphones, or you're going to have to buy an adapter.
3) Beats headphones are garbage, by any measure you care to choose. And ridiculously overpriced.
4) Bluetooth headphones are always a compromise with sound quality, and this new iPhone (like all previous iPhones) is likely to support only A2DP, since aptX requires 3rd party licensing - something Apple simply doesn't do. (A new, Apple-proprietary, Bluetooth format is a possibility - something that would only work with Beats wireless headphones. That would certainly fit within Apple's current modus operandi.)
5) Lightning-equipped headphones and those lightning-to-3.5mm dongles/adapters are going to be quite expensive, because the lightning port (being purely digital) will mean each device (headphones or adapter) will require MFi licensing fees, a separate DAC and a separate amp, which makes no sense, given that the iPhone itself will still have an internal DAC and amp (to drive its internal speaker).

It would be an incredibly cynical move for Apple to ditch that 3.5 mm audio jack.
