I think we need to change the name of the forum to "Apple Complaints" from "Mac Rumors".

My goodness... even totally cool RUMORS like this people got something to complain about.

I'm confused. What exact benefit do the dual lenses offer? How do they provide optical zoom?

and now we sit and wait for the top android phone manufacturers to rush and release a dual cam phone within the next 2-3 months...
Ahhhm...dual camera phones has already been made by androids manufacturers for over a year now. LG G5 gas been rumoured well before the iPhone 7 to have dual cameras.

But in typical iPhone users fashion, they are going to say Android copied Apple.

If this does turn out to be true and is limited to the plus model only.

Is anyone willing to riot with me ?

My guess is that only the Plus model will get dual-camera, but that the 7 will finally get OIS. That's what getting rid of the headphone jack makes room for.

Yes. It's completely ridiculous that in 2016 optical IS is still limited to the iPad Micro aka the iPhone Plus.

Though my iPhone 6 is still doing well, I will probably go for an upgrade end of this year.

I want IS and also this dual-sensor feature. However, I refuse to walk around with a "huge" phone. I understand they want to attract customers with Plus-only features, but if there are no volume issues (the more if they ditch the analog headphone jack) it doesn't make much sense to me.

I'm also puzzled. Makes no sense to me. What you can do with 2 sensors is have better low light pictures. You can have e.g. a 12 MP sensors and a 3 MP sensors. The 3 MP has bigger pixels, less xtalk, less noise, more sensitivity etc. You can then combine the 3 MP picture with the 12 MP picture. Basically interpolating/restoring details from the 3 MP one into the 12 MP one.

Another feature is that 2 sensors allows you to make a limited depth map, so could do interesting stuff. Don't expect 3D pictures, because IMHO the distance between the two sensors is far too limited to have accurate stereoscopic pictures.

That will be frustrating. It's already frustrating that there is a better camera in the plus models. I want a 4.7 but I want to get the best camera Apple has at the time. Put them in both sizes please!

No! Why?
It's bad enough the Plus is the only one that gets OIS but at least it's understandable considering they said that the Plus was the only one big enough to fit OIS.

With Linx however, one of the benefits they touted about their camera modules was that they were much thinner than what was used in the 5s!
Go ahead, check out page 3 of the PDF they had on their site before it was taken down!

If Apple were to offer two models for the camera, the base storage model would have the single lens system while the models above that should have the dual lens system.

The trio looks the most promising though.

Apple will not further break up the Plus line. Just not happening. Small, medium, large. That's it. Keep hardware as close as possible, but because of sheer room, the plus will have a few extra perks. Just how physics works. Dual lenses will be sweet, the tech from Linx can simulate a DSLR that costs thousands... it's actually good IP that only Apple has now

Not all of them can deliver the best technology available. That's why there are two models of iPhone, several for Macs/iPad.
Or are you saying that a Mac Mini and a Mac Pro should be identical?
No Macs or iPads in my post. iPhones until 5c were "unapologetically" top dogs without any doubt. Now you have to choose size or portability or best camera or lowest price. You remember me Phill Schiller explaining how the new iPod without light sensor was obviously better than the previous one. Never believed him.

I mean, instead of making a camera from scratch and creating a brand new OS, why not just use the world's most popular camera (the iPhone) and make a huge improvement to the camera? Not everyone is going to need two lenses, so it makes sense to have a camera-focused version of the iPhone.

I hope Apple doesn't go Larger = Better way, I'd hate to miss out this tech just 'cause I don't want a large sized phone.

It's an unfortunate business strategy for the consumer, but it's how Apple designs most of their products. iPod, iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, iMac, etc.

As a consumer I agree. But from a corporate perspective all companies must have multiple differentiators between models to "encourage" customers to rationalize buying a more expensive model than planned. Hard for Apple to justify the extra $100 price tag of the plus for just a larger screen. At best that alone is a $50 bump. There has to be additional features or you get a lot of customers asking themselves if they want to buy it. It also forces some customers to buy up if they want a feature in the higher model that are conveniently excluded from the down model. Every company's strategy is to get the customer to a more expensive product or service package. That's how they grow revenue, especially when their biggest products are mature.

Yes. :(

iOS 10 is going to become a huge differentiating factor. When they introduce multi-tasking, I wouldn't be surprised if the 5.5" model gets more features, like split-screen, for example. Still, introducing more software features that utilize a larger screen will make both the 4.7" and 5.5" models more desirable to the 4" market.

It sounds like some people want Apple to artificially keep possible features OUT of the larger iPhone if they cannot back port them to the smaller ones. Those are the people I cannot understand. The smaller phone is the same either way, why do they want the larger phone to be worse?

Exactly. The larger phone has more space and more battery to do heavy lifting. Why limit it just because it's smaller brother doesn't have the same luxuries?

Better yet, change it to iPhone worship. Then people will know what to expect and the ones who actually care about the mac or think the mac still matters can just leave the site.

Great. Glad it worked out for you. I carried a 6 for a year, and I've had a 6S since September. I still hate the size, and wish it was smaller.

And the stupid side power button drives me insane.

Open mind, open heart.

Apple didn't take god's perfect form factor and button location, they simply used it for several years until it was ingrained in people's unconscious use of cell phones. With that said, open your heart and you will get used to the current form factor and button uses. It doesn't mean you will ever love it like you may have the 4-5S, but it will become much less irritating.

Interesting you say that, because dual lenses sounds exactly like something that would require the room of the Plus model.
