There already is a 64GB iPhone and it's just $100 more. Nobody should change platforms because of this. Would you go back to Windows Vista, if you could save a hundred bucks?
My friend left to Android for a variety of reasons. These reasons come down to what seems like really great disappointment with Apple not being progressive anymore. This whole 32GB or 64GB debate is part of the Apple nonsense. With their new Android device, my friend can open up the sim port and also add in extra storage expanding on the base level. As a huge Apple fan for so long, since the original iPods and earlier, it was a decision they had been contemplating for a long while. :(:apple:

Apple used to be ahead, now they're so far behind that the possibility of 32GB is note-worthy.

It's kind of sad.
Other companies are not making squat for profit on their smartphones. Maybe they should take a lesson from Apple in economics.

Also, if you look up "sad" in a variety of dictionaries, you will not find any references to or examples of "making piles of money" as sad.

Edit: I found it under 'smart'.

Sounds good as long as they don't use it to cover up a price increase. Which admittedly is what I would expect them to do.

I suspect not. The SE price is the sign that Apple is going to drop the price of the 7 by $50. There is too big a spread between the product lines in price right now. And let's not pretend that Apple never drops the price of its products. It does. Apple has to compete against other smartphones. And basically everyone is dropping their flagship prices. And they are throwing in extras like buy one get one free or adding in a VR viewer. It is time for the base flagship phone to drop to $599. And since 32gb is going to be enough for a lot of people, that means the actual price will drop even more for folks.

Apple knows that if it doesn't refresh the form factor that it will have some issues selling the 7 at high volumes for the next twelves months. More consistent with their past practices to have the price drop on day one and then "hold the door" for the next twelve months. Also there are going to be some savings by not having major changes to this year's phone. That will protect some of Apple's margins even if they give back $50 or so in average sale price.

Apple will not increase storage wile dropping the price. No way.

It seems like the price is going to be 100 dollars up scheme. It's a mirage.....in the middle of wwdc.

You appear to have confused company profits with customer experience.

Personally, I don't care about Apple's profits, but I do care about the features and usability of their products - and that's the area they're behind. And that's sad, not smart.

That alone. I doubt it. However, it it's part of several points of disappointment... I could see it being a tipping point.

I would rejoice a 32gb base model iPhone but I know how Apple operates. They will increase the base price by at least $100.

Amazing how many people DON'T understand how Apple works, but are absolutely convinced they do. Most of them imagine Apple is basically just some greedy shopkeeper named Tim.

I have the 64 gig model and am happy. If someone is happy with a 8gig, 16gig, whatever gig, why do I care? I say to apple if there is demand for a lower config, go for it, don't listen to the minority geeks here who think its some type of human rights to have umpteen gig as a base for a phone. Pricing the phone appropriately is about the only thing that I would whine about, because a config difference of a few gig does not equal a $100 diff in price, even with the 48% target margins.

About Time!!!!

Apple have been super crap about their base storage offerings for too long. 16GB has not been enough for years (even for basic users).
I get by with 16GB fine still. I'll probably go with 32GB when I upgrade to an SE in a bit, but that's more because I expect iOS 10 or 11 to finally get big enough that 16GB is no longer enough.

32 (should be 64)/128/256 Memory configurations with no change in price would be legit. If Apple cares about the user experience, then users should be able to buy the base model without upgrading so that they can enjoy the 4k video recording, live photos, etc. At 16 gb, the most 4k video you'll shoot will be as much as that 'Onions' add shows

So.. Tim did come here and read complaints.
I highly doubt that. Most of the complaints on these forums are overly emotional and sarcastic rants that amount to "Apple doesn't make products to my exact personal specifications so screw them". Every once in a while you'll see someone calmly state a rational complaint or a fully fleshed out and logical wish of theirs, and I'm sure Cook has people at Apple that scour the Internet for things like that. But no, I would be shocked if he took too many people on MacRumors seriously.

who cares, seriously.
who is buying the same 6S/e this year?
Me. But just because I wanted the 6S and told myself to wait all year for the iPhone 7 and I don't want to be without 2gb of ram and band 12 LTE support for another year.

If I could go back I would have just bought the 6S when it came out and skipped this model, but I'm sure there will be other pleasant surprises with this year's new iPhone.

This is one of the reasons why a friend of mine, a long time Apple evangelist, left the iOS platform to Android this week.
Apple and all the nonsense games it plays with customers...
It's 2016. We should be starting at
64GB. Not 32GB.

I agree with all that you said, except that I'm not switching to Android.

How much r&d money did it take to figure out that 32gb storage will help with the user experience?
I'm sure it definitely hurt many people's experience using the base 16gb which isn't good for Apple's image, but it also convinced lots of people to fork out the extra $100 for the 64gb knowing that the 16gb would be annoying.

Keeping the base model at 16gb obviously had pros and cons for the company but I think it was still probably a good marketing decision. And they know that we'll follow along for a while but it starts to get ridiculous after a while. I think they played it perfectly.
