Lightning devices will cost more and be "better" so the upsell capacity, and lower cost of initial sale, makes sense.

I'm not sure I follow ... If you're saying Apple should put a Lightning pair of earbuds in the box, I agree, as including an adapter just encourages users to continue using the same cheap technology they have been all their lives. At least if they have to think about buying an adapter they will stop and think about upgrading to Lightning or wireless. If they include a set of Lightning headphones, at least they give the customer an opportunity to actually hear the way their music could sound (a marketing emphasis).

Otherwise, there's likely to be no demand for either Lightning or wireless, leaving the transition in the dust, and adapters dangling (or is that "dongling") off the end of the iPhone for years to come.

"At Computex Taipei 2016, many manufacturers showcased their new Lightning audio adaptors, and it seems there has been rumors that the headphones to be included with the new iPhone 7 series will still come with its own headphone jack as usual, and that a Lightning headphone jack adaptor will also be included in the package."

Uhm, the jack (a receptacle) would be on the iPhone, while the headphones would have a plug.

USB C makes sense, lightning doesn't. If the future is a cable that does it all, let's at least pick the right one !!

To me this is really simple: no headphone socket means no purchase of an iPhone. The headphone socket is an absolutely essential port for me and its absence is a deal breaker. I don't care if it comes with an adapter or not, or even if it comes with Lightening port headphones; I'm not interested in what amounts to a gimped phone.

I call bull pucky on this rumor. Regular headphones AND an adapter is NOT the way to introduce totally new lightning connected headphones. It's a half measure on a major change. Go all the way or go home. This isn't apples style. The iphone 7 is already rumored to be getting the short stick to the iphone 8 as far as a radical redesign goes...so why add more fuel to the fire of potentially pissed off costumesrs? Not worth it if you ask me.

It will already look exactly like the iphone 6 and 6s. If Apple does this adapter thing and not just offer it with true lightning or wireless headphones, I think many people will just wait until 2017 and the iPhone 8 redesign to upgrade.

This is perfect. People can still use it with their aux cords (or other headphones) out of the box without having to buy an adapter (of course, they could just leave the damn 3.5mm plug). Do y'all really use the EarPods anyway?

Apple needs to scrap those bloody things. They never stay in ones ears. Totally useless!

I agree. I have to use earhooks to get them to stay in but after a while the rubber in the earhooks gets looser and will not stay put. I now give them to the kids and get something else.

Why not ship no headphones anymore and just let the customer decide what they want to use? I don't want to pay for some mediocre included wireless things, personally.

This.

Wireless headphones don't have quality parody with wired, wired never need to be charged, suffer zero lag 100% of the time and every person I know with a wireless set also has a wired pair. Wired earphones aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
I agree with you. Wired is superior in my opinion.
Unrelated: You have an unintended joke in your quote. Wireless is a parody of wired.:D:p

I just got a 6s plus as I am not going to take the chance and wait for the 7 to find out it's missing. If it does not have the jack I will wait until the 7s plus and re-evaluate if I need the jack or not.

The Dongle Song

It can't ever really be wrong-le
To love another Apple dongle
When I see a port not being used
It cries out for some dongle news

Dongle! Dongle!
Here's a dongle!
Shove it in, it's fun to fondle
Who needs headphones that plug straight in?
When you can put a dongle in between!

I decided to write this song-le
All about the prospect of another dongle
When it's recorded upon my phone
I'll listen to it through my dongle at home

Dongle! Dongle!
Here's a dongle!
Shove it in, it's fun to fondle
Who doesn't want more junk to carry?
If dongles were people, they're the kind I'd marry!

I've thought about it for too long-le
All I want is another dongle
Convenience and choice are over-rated
Yet another dongle is already belated

Dongle! Dongle!
Here's a dongle!
Shove it in, it's fun to fondle
Who doesn't want a billion-and-one
Instances of dongle-dongle dongley fun!

Dongle dongle dongle dongle
Dongle dongle dongle dongle
Dongle dongle dongle dongle
Dongle!

This over here never needs to be charged as well with 0 lag

You have to wait with the rest of us to find out which rumor(s) are true. Why draw your line in the sand now? If you just got a 6s Plus why would you be in the market to replace it in a few months? How often do you typically replace your phone? Three weeks? Four?

I say no way is Apple going to give us something for free. Not happening.

Edit: I forgot they do give us Apple stickers so.. that's something.

Edit2: I guess its not really free a 16GB iPhone is $649.99.

What's most maddening to me is that there is no added functionality. Current iPhones can drive audio via lightning and Dragonfly has already built a pretty inelegant but the only possible working solution to this "feature." No true audiophile is going to buy a DAC or set of headphones that will only be usable with an iPhone and the fact they're using lightning instead of usb-c just guarantees this market will be DOA. It's just an incredibly unwise business decision.

I dont get it, its a totally water resistant, dust proof device and the 3.5 headphone can be used: perfect.

Just fueling the "wait for the iPhone 8" campaign.
