Now all we need is some 'analyst' to come out and say they will not be including earphones at all. The circle then would be complete.

My sources say they keep the 3.5mm headphone jack and include lightning earphones with a 3,5mm adapter.

I say no way is Apple going to give us something for free. Not happening.

Edit: I forgot they do give us Apple stickers so.. that's something.

Edit2: I guess its not really free a 16GB iPhone is $649.99.
They also put headphones, a Lightning charging cable, and an AC to USB converter in the box. Are you saying they'll stop doing that now, because it was just a mistake?

Afaik, if the quality of the music isn't upgraded as well, lightning headphones will basically be window dressing. We'd need higher quality audio to actually find any usefulness.
That's where these rumored new headphones from various manufacturers with built-in DACs come in. Even the current iTunesStore's 256 kbps can sound fantastic if even a modestly priced outboard DAC is used.

Now if Apple is going to include a headphone port at all, rather than just Bluetooth connectivity for the EarPods, I wish against all odds, for compatibility and simplicity's sake it would be a USB-C port, rather than Lightning.

Honestly, at this point, doesn't every smartphone user in the world own a few pair of unwanted earbuds? I know mine don't even make it out of the box. If Apple wanted to be truly eco-friendly they'd stop packing them in. Just include a brilliantly engineered micro adapter -- not some 1ft worm -- and be done with it... and don't raise the damn price because the 16GB model is deleted from the sales list. That's not how it's suppose to work.

You have to wait with the rest of us to find out which rumor(s) are true. Why draw your line in the sand now? If you just got a 6s Plus why would you be in the market to replace it in a few months? How often do you typically replace your phone? Three weeks? Four?

? I said I would evaluate the upgrade from the 6s plus to the 7s plus which is about 15 months from now and that time and I have the iphone upgrade program. I clearly said I am NOT waiting for the 7.

What does it matter to you if I skip the 7 and go to the 7s? I have to do what? Is that an order?

I will post it again. If the 7 does not have the jack then that means the 7s will not have it.

I just got a 6s plus as **I am not going to take the chance and wait for the 7 to find out it's missing**. If it does not have the jack I will wait until the 7s plus and re-evaluate if I need the jack or not.

Which means if the 7 has the jack the 7s will also, will not have to wait to evaluate an upgrade.

I did not say if It had a jack I would be buying the 7.

Out of curiosity why would you get upset over how long anyone other than you has a phone anyway? Why would you get upset even if I did get another in a few months and give this one to a family member?

Christ.

If a headphone jack doesn't exist on an iPhone 7, Apple won't ship headphones with that type of connection. That makes no sense.

Now if they could only design them to stay in your ear

Stay in your ear ... and have good sound.

If this macrumor is correct a question.
My iPhone is on charge & I really want to listen to music.
Wireless charging pod in box too?

Looks like Apple's doing a pretty good job of keeping everyone guessing. I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing a few surprises this year.

Assuming that this rumor is true (and I am skeptical just like everyone else), maybe this is Apple's way of dealing with the fact that every other non-iPhone device THAT THEY ARE CURRENTLY SELLING will still have a 3.5mm headphone jack, and in the case of Macs, lack a lightening port. Also Apple adding a lightening port to later Macs is just a terrible idea (even from Apple's point of view). It goes against Apple's whole get rid of every port you can and make those that remain multipurpose (USB-C).

Maybe they really just want to get rid of the headphone jack on the iPhone but not necessarily usher in a new standard of lightening port headphones.

You need an adapter to do just about everything on a rMB and Apple doesn't seem to mind, so maybe needing to use an adapter for wired headphones with the iPhone 7 isn't such a stretch for them. I'd frankly prefer that to Apple trying to bring a new standard to market that is only going to cause confusion, and be basically proprietary.

If apple wants to eventually make USB-C headphones (which would work with other non-iphones that are all moving to the new standard, AND all new Macbooks/Pros, AND PCs moving to the new port) that would be great. But lightening headphones...please no.

Makes it easier and cheaper to include an 3.5mm adapter vs. new headphones. They must have a stockpile of those headphones...every kids event at the local Apple store that is a giveaway.

Don't care. I use my iPhone with earphones and plugged in to recharge when I'm on conference calls. I'm already looking at a SurfaceBook to replace my aging MacBook. I already have an Amazon FireTV and now an Echo for around-the house stuff. Maybe Android next for my phone.

Forget apple. I'm not carrying (yet another) dongle for what -- Apple's vanity??

If this is true, can we put a blacklist on all the "analysts" who said predicted the elimination of the port? Of course MR is not going to do that since these "analyst" probably work for them...

I'm putting the following in bold because I think it's important people know about this.

The iPhone 7 isn't looking to be much of an upgrade (only people like me will buy it regardless) and it's for one very simple reason. Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the iPhone (as most of you will know) and Apple will be introducing the iPhone 8 with an OLED display (possibly curved), embedded Touch ID and more new features.

If Apple made major changes this year with the iPhone 7, that would mean that next year with the next iPhone, they'd only include minor features (like an "s" upgrade) and this is obviously something they want to avoid. Apple are throwing all their eggs in one basket with the iPhone 8 even if it means that sales go down yet again but they'll make up for it in 2017.

I would wait till the iPhone '10 year addition' but my Sept '14 '6' is due an upgrade & EE keep charging the same amount regardless of whether I phone them or not.

the two speakers will be "on a monaural system."
Sounds too dumb so must be true.

Including an adapter is a good idea so you can use other headphones with your new iPhone, but removing jack for nothing was a dumb idea.
