I will say that the 6S at least offered SOMETHING over the 6.3D Touch,Live Photos,an improved camera for the smaller variant, more RAM,slight water proofing etc

Now the only thing the iPhone 7 has is no antenna bands, headphone jack and a 3DT home button. If my iPhone 6 wasnt a laggy turtle I would have waited for the iPhone 8 which has OLED,glass body, edge display.

No one is gonna upgrade for so less features apart from Android switchers
The phone hasn't been announced:

1. you don't know the motivation of any consumer except yourself.
2. you don't know the features, because the phone hasn't been announced.

Here I trust apple more than the guessers.

Gotta love these threads. iPhones are only for narcissistic teenagers who "open mommy and daddy's wallet". Meanwhile the truly enlightened buy exploding laggy Galaxies that underperform last years status symbols

Also the completely factually incorrect "iPhone succeeds due to marketing" when Samsung do, and have for many years, spend vastly more on marketing than Apple do.

Say what?
Android keeps growing. It's just that individual manufacturers that are suffering from decreased market share because a bunch of new players are fighting for the limelight with cheaper and high end phones. HTC and Sony and getting killed while Huawei and ZTE are rising.
Apple iPhones are at he moment still a niche product and so it can only rise so much unless carrier subsidies and installment payments come full swing to all the markets.
Also one way to regain the market would be to offer a cheaper 4.7" model. As nice as the 5SE is, this is the media consumption age and 4" is not big enough.

Did you sincerely and with a straight face call the best-selling and most profitable phone in history a "niche product"? Now that's rich.

Here we go again.
Apple is operating on big margins, not volume sales. Considering they are still making more money than all the competitors combined, all I see is other OEMs trying to become Apple by pushing their margins up (Sony with their X series, Huawei with their Leica phone, Samsung, etc).

With Samsung having a recall on their Note 7, all I can say is Apple might be enjoying better numbers for the iPhone 7. Demand for iPhones are still surprisingly healthy, even in emerging markets. Of course, "analysts" will want to paint a more negative picture for their own benefit.

Android is hurting too with decreased sales. Android is for the masses while iPhone is for the decerning owner who wants quality and a phone that will not blow up and catch fire while charging.

Apple will do will no matter what.
And.....this is what you get when you come to an apple centric Internet forum hoping for logical, nuanced conversation. Disappointment.

You hoped for "logical, nuanced conversation" based on this utter drivel?

iPhone... it's a self esteem builder for many.

Other than the faithful, a huge number of iPhone buyers choose the brand with little consideration for the features most don't understand and use. It's a testimony of Apples marketing expertise.

Another rehash of that dated design

It is great marketing. And upon the release of the new ones, the students get rougher with their older ones. They kick it around or throw it at walls so they can get a replacement.
I feel pretty bad for their parents!

I don't think that's what you hoped for at all

If the 7 has no optical image stabilization and no increase in battery life...what we're left with is the A10 processor. Boring. Apple should decline, but they never do. People who are done with their contracts or up for a free upgrade will always just buy the latest iPhone. For sure. So no worries. iPhone is healthy and fine.

I so cannot wait for Wednesday to come and go so that we can all start arguing over factual things vs speculation. But, speaking of speculation, KGI has suggested the following:
- new dark black and piano black colors
- the A10 chip to clock at 2.4GHz which is a huge upgrade on an already fast phone
- the screens will get the true-tone display that the 9.7" iPad pro has
- an enhanced force touch recognition system
- IPX7 water resistance
- proximity sensor moving from LCD to laser
- a new internal amplifier to boost sound output
- 3gb ram in the plus model to help with the dual camera system
- ditching the 16gb model and adding a 256gb option
- boosting the flash LEDs from 2 to 4 for better true tone flash
- of course, the larger and improved single lens camera and the new dual lens camera

I don't know, what is minor to some is acceptable to others. I am looking forward to this release and I am coming from the 6S.

The mere formality of announcement remains. If you ask me they should just release the product directly on their website because there isnt much here for the regula size iPhone owners to upgrade

So basically no actual details have been announced by Apple so far. Got it.

Hope this young lady gets her Apple 7. Atleast that'll be one sale for Apple

It will be more than that. My 50 million friends all said they are upgrading to the iPhone 7.

How do you know the motivation and whether or not anybody other than yourself will upgrade? Have you polled the world?

And even in a best case scenario, anticipation remains lower than for the iPhone 6 which released 2 years ago

So basically some polls about what people are going to do given an unannounced product that can't be bought where nobody knows the internals as the product is unannounced in which people could change their minds in a New York second after the keynote. Got it. Fact riding on the top of speculation and rumors seems like a "house of cards".

I trust Apple, not the leaks. Sound familiar?

You demanded a poll.I gave you the polls.I can find more if you want but the gist of the matter is they all say the same thing that unless the design changes people wont find it worthwhile to upgrade.Waterproofing?Samsung had it eons ago and who dips a 1000 bucks phone in water unless you do torture testing?Faster processor? The 6S is already a beast to begin with.

Color options?Ah yes this will be the only way to tell people you got an iPhone 7 as no one would be able to tell otherwise

RAM?For the vast majority who use the regular size model the RAM stays the same :( .It would have been better had they saved cost by keeping the A9 but increasing the RAM

Display? That puke colored TrueTone is coming. Now certainly some people find it useful but I disable that feature as it looks boring and again not much of an incentive to upgrade. Now OLED displays on the other hand...

Headphone jack? This is going to work against Apple.I am NOT carrying an adapter around with me and those cheap Ear Pods are crap.Sorry Apple but it is what it is

Now the camera.Possibly the ONLY worthwhile thing in this series which will get people to upgrade. The catch?I need huge hands to handle that monstrously big screen and bezels

On a personal note, I have an iPhone 6 128GB, it serves me well, has Apple Pay, Touch ID, high storage, allows me to play GTA, Max Payne etc with no performance issues and it is in excellent condition. The 6s improved it with force touch, this week's 7 will improve it some more, but I'm not ready to upgrade, the cost of upgrading versus those improvements just aren't worth it..... yet. Combine those improvements over 3 years and a new aesthetic and I would bite..... so next year it is. Expect that approach to be like many others.
I have a 64GB iPhone 6 & not looking to upgrade exactly for the same reasons. I got the battery replaced last month by Apple & now it's back being a champ.

Does your iPhone show animation stutters every 15 minutes or so?

Never noticed any such issues. Although over the last weekend I was on a road trip and was using my phone for navigation. I did see a bit of lag while constantly switching between the camera and the navigation app while trying take pictures on the go. The pictures came out fab nonetheless.
