Smartphones have peaked say some, will iPhone 7 mark the slow decline in sales?

Expensive, a lookalike, same as the rather tired iPhone 6 series, this could mark a slow downward trend for Apple.

What say you?

None can know that, but my gut feel says iPhone 7 will sell on par or slightly less than 6s series. I have to say, if the rumors are true and if Google releases android VR capabilities and google home, well... that would be a great challenge (I'm intrigued to see google's VR in action).

Anyway I think Apple has already predicted this decline (if happens) and if they don't release a huge new design they'll have their reasons... with suppliers, engineering challenges or whatever the reason is.

Its pretty obvious why they didnt go all out.If they distributed the innovation that the iPhone 8 gets between the 7 and the 8 then the iPhone 7 would shortsell the 8
Apple is creating an artificial demand for the iPhone 8 by holding back the key features for the 10th gen release. The iPhone 7 will be the new iPad 3.Lost but not forgotten

If the rumors hold true, the 7/+ will be a decent upgrade.

Those holding out for a redesign won't get it and may not buy, but the phone will sell.

iPhone 7 == iPad 3 ???

Not even close.

On a side note: I do think Samsung made the right move on the Note7 and though the fallout may hurt for a while, Samsung will get thru it.

The S7/Edge are still solid phones and hopefully, next year's versions will be equally as good.

You demanded a poll.I gave you the polls.I can find more if you want but the gist of the matter is they all say the same thing that unless the design changes people wont find it worthwhile to upgrade.Waterproofing?Samsung had it eons ago and who dips a 1000 bucks phone in water unless you do torture testing?Faster processor? The 6S is already a beast to begin with.

Color options?Ah yes this will be the only way to tell people you got an iPhone 7 as no one would be able to tell otherwise

RAM?For the vast majority who use the regular size model the RAM stays the same :( .It would have been better had they saved cost by keeping the A9 but increasing the RAM

Display? That puke colored TrueTone is coming. Now certainly some people find it useful but I disable that feature as it looks boring and again not much of an incentive to upgrade. Now OLED displays on the other hand...

Headphone jack? This is going to work against Apple.I am NOT carrying an adapter around with me and those cheap Ear Pods are crap.Sorry Apple but it is what it is

Now the camera.Possibly the ONLY worthwhile thing in this series which will get people to upgrade. The catch?I need huge hands to handle that monstrously big screen and bezels
You gave me a poll? That's rich. This is the internet, where anything can be "made up". Or haven't you noticed that.

Come back to me, when you have a verified list of all of the items comprising the iphone 7. And personally poll a few tens of millions after they know if they are upgrading, not some random information week poll, who unfortunately faded into oblivion.

Thank goodness apple didn't put an oled screen in there, as the technology is far from perfect. I'll take truetone over it and will let you know after the keynote and the feature has been announced, or not.

So a poll by Quartz one of the best news agencies is "made up" .Got it

I dont need to poll anyone as the global reputed news agencies did it for me

Thank goodness Apple's 2017 iPhone uses OLED display (the same one Samsung uses on their own phones). Its time to kill off this technology.

But the question is does this merit even a number change. So far the 6S was much more of a upgrade over the 6 than the 7 is over the 6S.I personally dont see it and neither will many other customers.Just look at how much of a upgrade the 6 was over the 5S.It made a legendary quarter. These releases are subpar in comparison.

I agree. They did the right thing with the recall.Apple has yet to say anything on Touch Disease which no doubt they will throw the customers to the wayside in the environment of the iPhone 8 lanch.Coming out and admitting problems knowing the negative rep they will get is toucgh.Staying silent and turning a blind eye is not

In my personal opinion,I still find the design and overall look of the S7 Edge better than the Note but thats just me

It's all a marketing game...what Apple chooses to call the iPhone really makes no difference to me. Just as Samsung did with the Note 7 numbering. It's all semantics.

They're both guilty.

As for the touchid disease, yes...Apple should publicly change their stance.

My brother-in-law has a 6+, which to my knowledge is problem-free, but there is no denying that Apple made some manufacturing/production decisions with it that were not good and people shouldn't have to pay $$$ to get their phone sorted out.

Only underscores why the 6/+ was a very weak upgrade. The only grace with the 6 series was the larger screens. Most for the features were cosmetic.

There was a reason why I waited till the 6s to buy my very first iPhone. The shame now is that the larger models are where the best features are going. The flagship of the line isn't the 4.7" anymore.

OLED won't happen for the 4.7" in 2017. The iPhone Pro (and maybe the + model) only. May have to wait for 2018 for that to trickle down to the 4.7".

The pace of Apple, in certain ways, is maddening. We will have to see if I will wait that long.

The poll isn't made up, the results are garbage. How can anyone make a judgment on an unannounced product as there could be some feature, that will make an already appealing phone, more appealing? (Well I take that back, people do make decisions in a vacuum) Seems to be a theme.

I guarantee you, that Apple will not be using last years OLED technology, thank goodness. You're right time to kill off the sub-pixel arrangement.

And still harping on the maim/hurt vs inconvenience thing?

And btw, I trust Apple when it comes to their features. Not some third party reporter.

why do you think OLED is only coming with the plus? It will come on both models.

Every year the same debate occurs, the iPhone is in decline, the sky is falling and the end is near. Then every year they sell millions and make billions. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Yes it is a marketing game.

One Apple has mastered and plays brilliantly. Oh sure iPhone is an excellent product, but it's Apple's World Class Marketing that gives them the advantage.

And that's the reason that Apple can slow walk their users, holding back features that people want but are forced to wait for by a cunning company that knows how to play their customers.

Granted it's only a rumor (but I guess anything 2017 related is speculation at this point) but the latest suggests Apple will only use OLED on a special edition 5.5" phone in 2017 and moved to an LED screen in 2018.

I don't believe total phone sales will decline however I can see the adoption rate of android phones increasing over the next year. The lack of a 3.5 jack is a huge turnoff for most people, and it looks the same as last years model. What you need to keep in mind is that most people care little for phone spec and care a lot about the features.

It's amazing the 6s didn't have OLED. It's an industry standard to everyone else

You keep on talking about Apple marketing, as if Samsung is selling all of those galaxy phones without any marketing budget.

Let's assume this ridiculous hyperbole is true for a moment*. How harshly would you then judge Google/Samsung/HTC et al for, after almost a decade of iPhone being unable to match or exceed that success? In the case of Samsung that's with a far greater marketing budget than Apple. On a scale of 1-10 how flagrantly incompetent are they, and should shareholders be demanding the heads of each of the CEOs of these companies?

*It's not of course, is reality distortion personified. The straining of a fanboy to understand why something like the Note 7 sells a million over a week, while the iphone does and will sell 10m+ over its opening weekend.

Android is the future, they have so many choices at every price point.

Apple's practice of bashing OLED displays in the past is what's caused them to hold back from finally admitting their advantages. Anything that Apple can't claim to have invented goes ignored till the Cupertino Company can't ignore it any longer.

Oops must've hit a nerve...

You're assuming an awful lot, it's not serving you well.

Who talks like this. It's bizarre behaviour and I can practically hear you audibly snort as you type it.
You're burning desire to get personal reveals more about you than you may realize...

So you can't answer the question about marketing then?

Why cant these companies reproduce Apple's (perceived. By you) marketing success? What's wrong with them?

There is a perceieved illusion (which Jobs created) that Apple products are in a league of their own and they were when he was alive.Retina Display in 2010.Absolutely nothing came close.MacBook Air.I remember when he revolutionised the industry with its thinness. That scene where he removes it from an envelope never gets old.The guyestablished the benchmarks and companies followed.4 PRODUCT LINES,all genuine without any copying whatsoever.Fast forward to today and we have another run of the mill black suit CEO who is using that image Jobs created and lacking the innovation the former had, rips off the competition, criticies the competition

(Remember Timmy's comment on the Surface Pro?You can combine a toaster and a refrigerator but the experience wont be pleasing for the end user.He eats his words a few years later when he rips off the Surface with the iPad Pro and tries using that Jobs effect to shield that ripoff he created)I cant remember Jobs eating his own words like that

OLED,Waterproof,3D Touch is something the competition has already implemented. This is Apple catching up.Not

If past examples are anything to go by, Apple never follows "industry standard" they always seem to create new standards and everyone seem to follow.

Has anyone even copied Apple since Timmy took over?TouchID is a idea ripped from the Atrix. No one bothered copying 3D Touch an year later.

Whats ironical is that no matter how much you twist it,OLED,waterproofing, glass body is all a rip off of what Android manufacturers have done in the past. The tables have turned now

Why are you unable to answer this? How is it you keep asserting the same magical marketing theory as a - the - reason for Apple's success but you can't deal with the logical consequences of that, if it were actually true?
