Sure, but does he strike you as the sort of CEO who would make the COO's life miserable?

Also, I suspect the supply shortages are a feature, not a bug. They create a false sense of rarity, like "omg better buy a 7+ today or they'll sell out!"

Well, I won't argue with that.

None of that explains why they can't get a product out of the door. You're you're talking like Apple products are made out of fairy dust and Angels hair, the AirPods are plastic!?

It explains how clueless you are.

Pretty sure they're going to do something way more significant for the tenth anniversary iPhone...

Just as I have predicted for 2017:

iPhone 7S
iPhone 7S Plus
iPhone Pro / iPhone X

The days (years) when Apple had positive surprises for us are – sadly – over.

2016 was a bad year for Apple, and a horrible year for us, the loyal Apple customers.

But hey – we're getting avocado and bacon emoji next week!

Apple seem's to like taking risks, but to re-hash the current design for another 12 months with upgraded guts and a different colour for the so-called "anniversary" is bordering on suicide. Customer's want a new fresh design, OLED displays (that look natural and not over-saturated colours like other brands and don't use Pentile displays - hint S*****g), no more LCD, glass front and back with built-in induction charging (as long as it charges as quick or quicker than an AC adaptor), and built-in Touch ID on the display itself, bezel reduction, maybe a curved display.

Apple's current trajectory based on these rumours means they are really going off the rails and lacking design ideas and using re-hashes with minor changes trying to be "new".

I don't think Apple cares about timing a new iPhone refresh with its tenth anniversary.

Truth is, it's easy to do something different (like give a phone a new form factor), but way harder to do something differently and better (give a phone a new form factor that is better than the current iPhone 7 design). This takes time to do right, and Apple will release the phone when it's ready. Not just to coincide with something as meaningless as an anniversary.

Enlighten me then. Is Apple struggling to get hold of the high end bespoke plastic they are using for the AirPods?

If you had a grasp of the language and reading comprehension you would have gotten that from my first reply. They created a custom chip and their own form factor with tap controls. Who else is doing that? Can they go to Radio Shack and grab a million or so of them?
You tell me?

I grouped them by design for you-- adding spaces between the generations that have the same design language so that you can see the pattern. you may have to squint, but it's there!

In that case, they're all the same cause they're rectangular with a home button! Going by physical dimensions, my statement stands true.

Fabulous but they haven't got a single unit into the channel, not even one. Doesn't even sound like supply constraint, sounds more like something failed QA.

That's how it goes when you're building something other than crap. The impossible takes a little longer. I'm cool waiting.
The press seemed impressed by the review units given to them.
Weird looking but at least they're thinking out of the box.

Maybe they shouldn't have announced them if they couldn't get them out of the door. Honestly the reviews i've read have been a bit mixed. Wired gave them 5/10.

So true. Every few months I'll try to use Siri and it never works. The only thing it's good for is to ask "How much wood can a wood chuck chuck?" That gets old after a few dozen tries.

For the voice, I want that of the computer from the original Star Trek series, complete with the "working..." comments whenever Siri is slow (which is pretty much all the time for me out here in rural MI).

So true, latest example of "shortage as a way of marketing" is the new MacBook Pro... What shortage, I ask? Silver 13" MBP with Touch Bar are now available in 3-4 days from Apple resellers, at least where I live.

Of course it could be because people are cancelling their orders, or doing returns, with all the issues that plague that model.

The same happened with the JB iPhone 7 – it scratches so easily that buyers went for the matte black after reading all the reviews & comments, and there was no shortage of JB anymore.

I'll end with a quiz: apart from Apple Watch, which innovations have Apple come up with in the past 3 years? And I use the word "innovation" loosely with Apple Watch (I have the SS version).

The correct answer leads to the path of excess (in savings).

I dont believe this article unless it refers to a first quarter 2017 refresh.
The iPhone 10th anniversary mid 2017 will be special and this article shows a refresh far from special.

I understand designs attract buyers. But if the car already has a sleek design that I like, I don't care for the external look beyond that. I don't buy a car for its shape. I buy for performance and feel. Most people do.
[doublepost=1481150474][/doublepost]
Why do you care so much about the lack of external design change when the internals are what make the phone perform? The only thing external designs are for are showing off the phone you have.

There isn't much benefit from a redesign besides consumer differentiation. The only practical benefit is OLED for battery performance. Glass casing is worse than the current aluminum, from a performance standpoint as well as damage-wise, but so long as it's "different" people want it...

The current iphones already have a curved glass, so adding a screen underneath won't make it more prone to scratching or damage.

What happens when you charge the current premium prices for these 7S models and then the people find out it's no longer the top line iPhone?

If you go one rung below you might as well go the whole hog and do it on Android for at least another $1-200 saving.

The question is, is there a decent enough alternative to Samsung that is not some Korean or Chinese crap phone?

Failure to release a brand new redesigned device next year would be suicide for Apple. They're already losing a lot of loyalty and respect, this would be the final nail.

I actually doubt it. The vast majority of iPhone users don't follow Apple news and rumors. Maybe for people on this forum (who find almost anything to complain about) but most people will keep buying regardless. The iPhone 7 is proof.

Maybe so,
and maybe you can't please everyone. We've swerved the conversation into a whole other topic.
Has nothing to do with your original bitching.

This is exactly was going to happen. They are going to release iPhone 7s and 7s Plus along side with the iPhone 10th anniversary.

It seems like some folks really want a change to the basic shape/design of the iPhone. So, what improvements do folks want made to the current iPhone design? It is a few years old but that doesn't mean the design isn't functional and attractive. Does it need to be thinner? Does it need an edge to edge display? What is it that people feel is lacking in the current design? Not being snarky...just asking because I probably lack the imagination...creativity and design are not my strength.

BTW - I have a friend who loved the iPhone 5 design...finally replaced it with the 5SE so he could keep the same shape because he likes the way it feels in the hand. I think that design is like 5 or 6 years old, but he is happy as a clam.

I have an iPhone 6plus. I think that the updates to the 6s plus and the 7 plus are a complete waste of time. The camera? I don't need my phone to take pro shots. I don't need to press the screen hard so that I don't have to open an app. I want to use it! That is why I am tapping it. Those updates were gimmicks. My phone works fine despite some battery hits, but after saving about $1700 skipping two iPhone updates, I think it is worth it. I may go in and just pay for a battery service and keep this phone for 2 more years.

Going between my SE and 7, I really miss the deep press when I'm using the SE. One person's gimmick is another's great improvement.
I also love the new home button in the 7. Love how fast it processes video and filters.

And looks-wise, much better.
I skipped the 6 series because of how awful they looked and missed out on bendgate and the problems to the screen.
Missed the battery issues of the 6s.

Glad I missed the 6 series period.

IMO, there is nothing wrong with the current form factor. What would be wrong with the same basic case with a bezeless display and a virtual home button? Update the display and internals and you have another nice phone.

For those who want a radical new design, what would you be looking for?

Perhaps we should just say "in new red color".

"All-new" seems like a bit of a stretch when all we are talking about is a different paint color.
